[Challenge 3][Cat B][K-D10] Exploration of asteroid D147-25
LucasLaughing replied to SpacerSteve's topic in AG1 Archive
That a really cool ship! I love the curves, and that's a great technique for getting the engines to sit at an angle. The yellow slope on the top feels a bit jarring, but that might just be me... -
[Challenge 3] [Cat B] [K-07] Hostile Accusations

Wow, this is beautiful - I really like the intricate tiling on the path and platform. -
Wow, I somehow missed this one during the holiday break - great dynamic lighting, and I really like the way it reflects off the beacon.

[Challenge 3] [Cat. A] [O - H09] Aquatic Expeditions
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in AG1 Archive
Thank you! I'm glad I was able to do justice to the original build. Thanks - I was super happy with how the Ahsoka fish turned out! Thank you Thanks! The sub took me a long time to get right, so I'm glad it turned out well. Thanks! I can't take credit for the water on top of the rocks idea, though - that was one of the coolest parts of the original build. Thank you - I used up all my light blue trans tiles making the water surface, but I really liked how it turned out. -
Location: Wastyria - H09 Tags: Octan, Exploration Note: my contest entry is a rebuild of the amazing Aquatic Exploration scene by "Soccerkid6," which you should definitely go check out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Isaac Redsyn Mission Log: Another water mission this week, but I got to drive a boat for the first time. And not any standard boat at that, the "Dragonfly" is a pretty nifty piece of machinery, or maybe I should say pieces of machinery, as it's really two vehicles in one. The Dragonfly is designed to transport, launch and recover the "Guppy," an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle which can dive as deep as 10,000 meters! There's room on the boat for a second crew member and space to store a full diving suit. The second crew member can also remotely pilot the "Guppy" from their pod. The "Guppy" is primarily used for fast reconnaissance and mapping; once it finds an area of interest we can send in one of the larger subs for sampling and in-depth exploration. Speaking of larger subs, I've also gotten to watch the final certification dives for the Deep Exploration Submersible "Ophelia." The sub had a different name, but was unofficially christened "Ophelia" after the first test vehicle sank to the bottom and imploded during a remote controlled test dive. All in all, it's a nice day to be on the water (and not under it). Isaac, out. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall views: Minisub recovery: Minisub loaded and secured: The "Ophelia" Behind the scenes: You can see full-sized pics on my flickr. Thanks for viewing!

[Challenge 3][Cat. B][K - C09] Getting a Closer Look
LucasLaughing replied to goatman461's topic in AG1 Archive
Cool update! I like the flying ship - I think you've got just the right amount of detail to balance out the large flat areas. I initially misread your last line as " but will not be enough to ward off the inevitable implosion of Kawashita faces," which was confusing, but also sounded very dramatic -
[SoNE 10.2 Freebuild] Welcome To The Jungle
LucasLaughing replied to WarSquirrel's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I'll echo Tyrus on this one - rock-work looks great, and I like the door; it's simple, but it looks right. I agree, though, that it could use more vegetation. You've got some great action shots, but I think the scenes might make more sense if there was more cover for the soldiers on both sides. -
Cool little vehicle! The colors work well, and I like how the drill deploys. It would be nice to have a little terrain under the vehicle, just to spice up the presentation, but I like it overall.

Thank you guys! I've definitely been loving the LEGO Elves sets for the colored foliage. Thanks! That's a good call on exploring the MC mutations - could be some interesting stories there. I'll send you a PM if I come up with anything. Thank you! Thanks - I got lucky and picked up the vines/whips with some used LEGO collections - I hadn't realized how rare they were (in green) until just now when I looked on Bricklink. One was included in a 2015 set, so maybe they'll be making a comeback soon! Thank you!

Location: H-09 Wastyria Tags: Exploration Lu's Log - 20 Desembrinali 3815 Hey team, I apologize for the lack of log updates lately! We've been doing extensive mapping and equipment testing here on Wastyria; I've been spending my waking hours either underwater, or fixing hardware at the drydock. The water is cold, but still holds an abundance of life. One of my stranger finds so far is a cattail fish, a species which had been previously spotted on Quantus III by Dr. Vernon. It's unclear if this is a case of convergent evolution, or perhaps panspermia. We'll need to test the mitochondrial DNA of both species to see if and how they're related. CLAPPIE, remind me to contact Dr. Vernon when we get back to see if he has any samples. Aye aye, Captain! We're not on a ship, CLAPPIE; you don't have to call me 'captain.' As you wish, missus fish! Hee hee! I'm at the edge of the reef ... just past here, the seabed drops off for at least a thousand meters. Sonar scans suggest that there are trenches down there that are even deeper than the Mariana. I'd love to get down there, but we've been having a hell of a time with our deepwater subs. Our hardsuits continue to work extremely well, but they're not designed to travel that far down. Ah well, for now I'll just enjoy the beauty of the reefs, and maybe they'll have one of the prototype subs ready to test when I get back. Lu, out.

Episode X: Deep Space Deception
LucasLaughing replied to Nom Carver's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Great job to both teams, and thanks to the judges and to our sponsor! This was my 25th (!) SoNE build; SoNE was the reason I joined Eurobricks a few years ago and the reason I've gotten back into building MOCs on a regular basis, so I also want to say thanks to all the mods, judges and players who have helped keep SoNE awesome! -
[SoNE Ep X] The Call of Duty
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
It's weird how localized the weather can be around here - I blame the mountains! I'm in North Seattle (Ballard) - we had morning fog this weekend but it was sunny in the afternoons. Now, of course, it's raining. Thank you! Thanks again - it's definitely been feedback from you and other builders that keeps me pushing myself and trying new things. I started out with yellow just because I had a lot more heads to choose from ... perhaps someday all of our heads can coexist in harmony, regardless of color Thanks! Thank you! I used GIMP to fine tune the focus, and I had to do some sketches on graph paper to get the number '2' right; I've never been very good at brick-built fonts. -

Thanks! I'm a big fan of "in-universe" shots, so I try to get those as much as possible. Thank you! I do have a ridiculous number of CMF's Thanks! Thank you! I was lucky as far as the lighting - we actually had a sunny day when I was doing photos... also, I added an edit under the 'spoiler' tag re: ZW's orders. Thanks! -
Cool little build - you did a nice job with the minifig posing, although the last pic is a little awkward Glad to have you building for the Empire!

[SoNE Ep. X] Repel and Retreat
LucasLaughing replied to Commander Beltar's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Beltar and the team of combat medics performed their mission heroically, braving enemy fire to rescue their fallen comrades. In addition to saving Imperial lives, Beltar engaged and killed a number of rebels. ------------------------------------------------------- Wow, you've got great action shots here - nice work! You did a really good job on the minifig posing, and the little details like the brick-built stretcher really add to the build. My only critique would be that the boarding craft looks a little too "mountain-ish." I think if you added some greebles, or maybe tried some different slope combinations, it would look more like a vessel. Overall, though, this is an excellent entry. -
-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Tyrus performed his duty well, seizing the engine room and taking control of the Suprosa's blast doors. In addition to cutting the rebels off, Tyrus and Sgt. Davon used the blast doors to funnel the rebels into an effective kill zone. Tyrus should be commended for his initiative. The one area where Tyrus fell short was in maintaining control of his weapon. A soldier's weapon should never be left unattended - when not in use it should be holstered, or secured with a strap. I trust this lapse in judgement will not be repeated. ------------------------------------------------------- Wow, beautiful photography and lighting - really nice work! I love the hologram too, and the computer room looks great. Do you have some pics showing your lighting set-up?

-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Trooper Tariq performed his duty well, securing a computer room to prevent the rebels from stealing its data. He also discovered an enemy infiltrator, and put out the alert to be on the lookout for others. Although he's still a rookie, Trooper Tariq is a fine addition to the platoon. ------------------------------------------------------- Nice hallway - those sticker parts go really well with the angled columns you built. I also like the angled walls of the computer room, although the gaps between the panels are a bit distracting. I'd suggest using more light when you're photographing - that will help reduce the noise/graininess in your pics.

-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Trooper ZW-461 is currently missing in action. He was last seen boarding a modified Gamma-class assault shuttle which left the Suprosa without authorization, causing injury to an Imperial officer. It is unknown if anyone else was aboard the shuttle. The fleet has been alerted, and will be searching for the ship. ------------------------------------------------------- This is a great build - I really like the shuttle. I'd thought about building a Gamma-class shuttle before, mostly because there were full diagrams of it in a West End Games reference guide, but I never tried because I thought the front would be too tricky. You nailed it, though - awesome job. I also love the little walker with the motorbike chassis - NPU.

[SoNE Ep. X] Securing the Bridge
LucasLaughing replied to Kodan Black's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Pilot Kodan Black successfully completed a difficult and dangerous mission and should be commended. Kodan didn't hesitate to take on a role more suited to infantry, and bravely led his team to the Suprosa's bridge. ------------------------------------------------------- Great job capturing the look/feel of an imperial ship - I especially like the wall texture you created with the crates. That's also a really nice shot down the hallway to the blast doors. -
-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Trooper "Dwarf" performed admirably on his first mission. He charged the enemy without hesitation and successfully interrupted their data uplink. Some of his tactics did leave room for improvement. Causing the depressurization of a ship should only be used as an emergency measure of last resort. Report to the training center tomorrow at 0700 for the course "So you're going to fight in space." Finally, your non-regulation helmet was not approved for this mission. I'm assigning 4 hours of duty in the mess hall, to be served tomorrow following your training course. ------------------------------------------------------- This was a nice build, especially for your first Sci-fi moc! I agree with Beltar that some parts look a little unfinished. I think I would have extended the columns on the left side higher and put computers or tiles on the exposed studs by the window. I like your little holo-table, though, and you did a really nice job with the minifig posing, which is something that is often overlooked. Glad to have you aboard and building for the Empire!

-------------------------------------------------------- After action report - prepared by Sgt. Kirana -------------------------------------------------------- Imperial Pilot Artizan safely delivered the assault team to the Suprosa, avoiding rebel ships on the way and neutralizing rebel forces in the hanger prior to landing. He performed his duty admirably, and should be commended. ------------------------------------------------------- As others have said, that's a beautiful ship. I especially like the windscreen, and the rear fins look really good. Also, excellent border. I feel like those kinds of finishing touches are something I need to work on more, but yours looks great.

Imperial Star Destroyer Avenger - in hyperspace, en route to classified location. This isn't what I signed on for. There's a reason I chose the Stormtrooper Corps over the officer's academy. Unfortunately, in war time, we don't have the luxury of choosing our duty. We're meeting in one of the TIE wing briefing rooms; the pilots are already boarding their fighters, ready to launch the moment we leave hyperspace. “We don't have much time, so I'll keep this brief." "The rebels have attacked an Imperial freighter, hoping to steal data from the supercomputer it's carrying. Our mission today is simple: we're going to stop them. You'll be riding over to the Suprosa on assault transports." "Artizan, you're lead pilot. We have several hanger bays to choose from – the main hanger is ideal, but we want the assault team to arrive in one piece so you drop them off at whichever site looks best." "Kodan – I need you and your team to secure the bridge. If the rebels can't escape with the information, they'll probably try to take the entire ship. We cannot let that happen." "Tyrus – Your team needs to take the engine room so that we can cut power to the bridge, if necessary. You'll also be able to remotely close blast doors from there, so we can cut the rebels off from the computer rooms." "Tariq and Dwarf, you two link up with our Quick Reaction Force. Tariq – your job is to secure any of the computer rooms that the rebels might try to breach. Dwarf– we expect rebel slicers might try to steal the data via remote uplinks. If that's detected, your job is to track them down and take them out." "Beltar – You'll be boarding with the other troops. Link up with the Suprosa's crew and treat any casualties you find. We'll dispatch you and the medical team to other locations as needed." "ZW - Ayt et res be'Sarge na sharee tze mal'meni." It means 'Listen to the Sarge, and don't screw up,' but I'm willing to bet hard credits no one else here speaks Zabraki. I don't speak it either, but I figured if I learned a phrase it might help his standing with the other troops. It's not easy for an alien in the Stormtrooper Corps, but the fact that he's here tells me he must have talent. I'll have to figure out what to do with him if he survives this mission. "Everyone – check your targets; we'll have multiple teams operating and I don't want any blue-on-blue. Use cover, but don't allow yourselves to be pinned down. Above all, do not let the rebels escape with the data." "The rebels seem to think that they can strike us with impunity. We're going to show them how very mistaken that belief is. General Brickdoctor will be watching … make him proud. Move out!"
