  1. ideally the unimog set would have prototypical torque tube suspension, a ladder chassis, 3 locking diffs, and a functional gear box and a straight 6 engine, I doubt however, that the model will feature any of these with the possible exception of the engine, but so is the way with lego, like zap2012 said, at the end of the day this is primarily a child's toy. (to quote technicbricks afol's account for 15 percent of lego technic sales) That said it's still gonna be a great set and ripe for modding too, if the model doesn't do or have what you want- change it! it is lego after all...
  2. further to this here are a few pics of my planetary reduction hub developments my turntable based planetary reduction hub, driven by the black cross axle in the centre, steering centre would be 1 stud out from the holes on the turntable using a 3l u-joint. Gives a 1:3 reduction. Part heavy though, uses 2 turntables (outer 1 split) per hub (sorry about the poor part legibility due to the black elements used and poor photography) (EDIT- i don't know whats going on with that the embedding on that second pic?) (2nd EDIT missing [ spotted and added!)
  3. yeahhh i'd noticed he'd removed them.... there are a few clues on his first 4 axle truck chassis video on you-tube but other than that it's a mystery, he's one of my contacts on flickr so i might pm him on here or through there, either that or reverse engineer my own take on it. Cheers anyway fella, you'll have to post up when you complete it!
  4. While i enjoy the lego technic super-cars i prefer the increased scope for functionality that other flagship models (usually construction stuff) allow... but with a unimog being my dream choice of personal transport rather than a zonda or a caparo or whatever i'm clearly biased....
  5. I thought that rang a bell..... Would you be able to give me a break-down of the flex parts used in the steering system maybe?
  6. Yet again stunning, i love your large mining loaders and excavators, great functionality placed in to a realistic model of the real thing..
  7. Wicked little moc! i was distraught when i saw this on brickshelf though as i had a little 6x6 argocat project on the back burner myself! i have to say yours looks a little better than what i had so-far.......
  8. It's on my to buy list too! noticed this new gallery from a fella named dokludi...... apparently he's had a crack at reverse engineering this set already! Unimog 8110 Moc by dokludi
  9. Lovely detail, should be great when it's all power functioned up!
  10. when the LAs were launched a lot of people (me included) were concerned that this could be the end for pneumatics, however with 8049 coming out last year and statements from Lego themselves thankfully we have been shown this is not the case, LONG LIVE PNEUMATIC LEGO!
  11. sounds like you got a good deal there!
  12. i used a similar solution on a model uni-knick i built, unfortunately the drivetrain i was using on it rendered it a fail so no pictures got took... you'll have to let us know if it solves your steering issues!
  13. yeahhh, similar to zblj's lynx, The previous version had a nasty habit of snapping drive-shafts so i figured dividing the torque of 2 pf xl's between the two independent drive lines would help..... The bonus is it allows the ability to skid steer. this shot with the battery box removed pretty much gives you the gist of what's going on- 16012011295 by sam2442, on Flickr edit-gah, just noticed the front left u-joints are out of phase!
  14. I say go for it, my current landrover truck trialler rocks portal hubs, but then landrovers that have had portal hub conversions (such as the Ag-Rover) or that have had unimog or volvo 303 axle swaps are a little more common than willys jeeps with similar conversions..... If i was gonna get worked up about my build being non prototypical though i think the independent right and left drivelines would be first on the list! 04012011258 by sam2442, on Flickr
  15. Cheers Blakbird! i shoulda known it would be easier than i thought... That might come in useful for some of the flex parts i need for this 2legoornot2lego style truck chassis i'm working on! it's turning out to be a rare part hungry build! Did I hear somewhere you built a copy of one of ingmar's trucks blakbird?
  16. Nice debut moc fella! welcome to the world of the AFOL
  17. Whoaa that's quite a list! I think you can get software to scan bricklink stores for your wanted parts, you can certainly get one to source parts from a LDD file but i've never used any of 'em.... i just generate a list using peeron and then look for someone with all/most of the parts i'm after in their store on brick link..... that or use lego direct to order the parts via the customer service number, though i fear some of the parts you're after may be discontinued and unavailable through lego direct..... good luck dude!
  18. www.Ditzj.de is constantly in my topsites!
  19. A great re-edit of an all time classic set! I'm looking forward to seeing if the unimog will be a worthy successor to the air-claw's crown... I hope so, it looks like it's gonna be a classy set, with plenty of scope for modding!
  20. I can't wait for the unimog! it's like my dream technic set!
  21. 9.8KG! thats huge! His truck-trial MAZ was huge and now Emilus has built another monster! I love the complex internals and the mind boggling number of gears he used, what a technic collection he must have! oh and sorry Dluders but that english translation link is sending me through to a discussion about solic's liebherr LTR1100 crawler telescopic crane, (which is also a great moc!) I think this is correct emilus's dragline
  22. excellent, just the sort of faithful reproduction we've come to expect from firas...
  23. I checked the his photostream (well worth a look!) after my last post, they are. However, the effort it must have taken to construct such a beautiful and complex model using cad software and then render and process it to such a high standard may actually eclipse the work it would take to build this from real bricks......
  24. I love stephen's work, his mini's are ace. But I've gotta say I think at least some of these are renders rather than photos, still an epic moc though, whatever they are.....
