  1. Sycha1995 posted this well-made of various Lego Technic rally cars driving the trails in Lukhovitsky, Russia (southeast of Moscow). @ RM8: Have you participated in any of these Technic rallies?
  2. Here is my picture of a side-by-side comparison of the various Lego large wheel+tire combinations: Actually (according to Bricklink), the 59521 "Wheel Hard Plastic Spoked Giant Thin (160mm D. x 28mm)" is larger than any of the wheels/tires above:
  3. Maybe today's kids have bad role models:
  4. Nice! Its black-and-white color scheme makes it look like a police wagon (to incarcerate bad off-roaders)!
  5. Have you seen George Staples' Ackermann Steering tutorial?
  6. @ Methos: Zblj also modeled a V8 engine in LDD, which I have placed on SkyDrive here. The 30-45 seconds it will take you to do a quick download will be a lot less time than modeling this engine block youself in LDD! If you want a V6, just peel off two cylinders.
  7. Thanks, RoscoPC, for these fantasic F1 models!
  8. I can see ALMOST ALL of the entries; there are a total of four entries in the top 3 rows right now that don't appear. You have to wait for your web browser to load several "clumps" of pictures at the bottom of the Gallery webpage. If you can see this silly entry below, you know that you're seeing them all:
  9. @ Blakbird: I wish I had been able to attend Brickcon 2012 last weekend to see RoscoPC's nine F1 cars. How well does the "LEGO Ferrari 126C2 with with Power Functions" model drive and "handle"? From RoscoPC's Flickr photoset:
  10. @ Ximbary: Welcome to Eurobricks! On his website, Philo wrote this topic about the Lego Power Functions Battery Box, complete with picture instructions on how to access the inside: His photos below show the location of the current-limiting fuse. The first picture shows "Both sides of the PCB. On top side, from left to right, we see: * D2, a power diode, preventing voltage reversal on PF output connector * The PF connector * LED D1 and series resistor R1 * PCB pads for slider switch * Resettable fuse R2, limiting output current"
  11. As reported by Conchas on TechnicBRICKS, "The LEGO Technic Challenge Video was released on YouTube. I've shown it here before through a "bootleg" cam recording. Now in proper format for you to see (although it was already also on LEGO.com/Technic)." Here is what The Lego Group wrote on their YouTube video: "CREATE! SUBMIT! WIN! For the first time ever, we are giving you the chance to create a design for LEGO Technic! If you win, your design will be used to produce and launch an exclusive, limited edition LEGO Technic set available for sale online! Go to: http://www.technic.u...gn/Default.aspx for more info."
  12. I remember that Nico71 (Nicolas Lespour) was considering something like this, but it was not viable at the time (April 2011). His survey results ( http://www.nico71.fr/lego-survey-the-results/ ) indicated some interest.
  13. Nathanael Kuipers posted these two images on his Flickr photostream. He wrote, "For those interested I have created full instructions for my LEGO Technic Pony car. See more here:rebrickable.com/mocs/nathanael/pony-car and here: www.crowkillers.com/model.php?model=NK-ponycar Created with MLCad, LDview and LPub."
  14. Boxerlego posted this of a modified Lego Technic Monster Truck. He wrote,"This is not your average Lego technic model. Powered by the titan of Lego motors. Single motor drive with a .8 gear ratio. 300 rpm on the power puller wheels that is 11340 rpm with the custom motor. Controlled with the Lego 8879 PF speed remote and the 8885 switch remote. "Uses two V1 IR receivers. The first receiver serves as the motor control unit and is controlled by one side of the speed remote. The second receiver serves as the steering unit and can use two servo motors for all-wheel steering and uses a 9 volt battery to function. The 10 cell battery box (15 volts max) is the power source for the motor. "Powering this motor was a challenge and could not work with the IR receiver and the V2 can only power the motor under no load condition. So I made my own H- bridge so that I can send about 10 - 12 volts to the motor. Some of the transistors that are on the H-bridge are are the same kind of transistors that I used with my brushless solenoid engine. In order to use the IR receiver with the 14 volt load I had to make a voltage divider and power the receiver that way." His Brickshelf Gallery: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=511173
  15. [bUMP] Laurens200 posted this of a MinuteBot Technic Baseplate on a LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Turntable: On this Robotsquare.com webpage, he wrote, "Remember the MinuteBot Baseplate Kickstarter project? It was funded successfully, so the base plates have been turned into a real product. I’ve received a few plates last week as part of the pledge I made to the project. "I’m quite satisfied with the quality of the product. They’re strong and hold LEGO pieces well. Obviously, you shouldn’t expect LEGO quality, or they would have had to raise $100,000 to produce the plastic mould – not $8,000. The color is somewhere in between Normal white, NXT white and Light Grey. "I didn’t have any specific ideas in mind when I made the pledge, but when I received the plates, I immediately turned them into the sandwich shown above. This model should come in handy for display at events. Now the robots just turn around without falling off the table. Purists may say they could have done this without the base plate. That’s OK.... "UPDATE: You can buy the base plate for $30 here."
  16. RoboLegoMindstormsPL posted this of his motorized Lego Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover. It features a simple wheel-pivoting mechanism:
  17. @ Tomik: You have the knack for building alternates of official Lego Technic sets!
  18. From this Lego webpage, "INSTRUCTIONS 1. Give your creation a Title, Description and Tags (keywords to identify it). 2. Click on the boxes marked ‘Upload Media’ to add pictures or LDD files (more details on types of files allowed can be found below when you click the ‘Upload Media’ box). 3. Click ‘Submit Creation’. Before your creation will appear in the Creations section it has to be moderated, which may take a couple of days. To check on the status of your creation click on ‘My Creations’. GENEREL TERMS AND CONDITIONS CREATE! SUBMIT! WIN! For the first time ever, we are giving you the chance to create a design for LEGO Technic! If you win, your design will be used to produce and launch an exclusive, limited edition LEGO Technic set available for sale online! Here’s what you need to do: Create a new body design for the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawler that fits the existing chassis and wheels! You can win the honour of being the best LEGO Technic designer – but no further prizes will be awarded. You can upload your design from 1st. Of October 2012 until 31st. Of December 2012. Enter using your LEGO ID – see the Submit! Instructions below. If you do not already have a LEGO ID you can create one at https://account.lego.com/en-us/SignIn.aspx CREATE! Think like the pros! Before you start, you need to get into the right frame of mind – you need to think like we do here in the Technic design team: Ask the right questions! What does your ideal 4X4 Crawler look like? What separates good design from great design? What do other people want to see? What do other people want to buy? Get inspired! Search online, look in books or visit locations where you can look at real life vehicles and get input from experts. Take pictures, do quick sketches or make notes of specific details, shapes or colours that you find interesting. And remember – keep a note of your ideas as you go along! Get real! Now consider which of your designs you could actually build out of Technic elements. Don’t make your design too complicated or too difficult to build – other people have to be able to build your Technic set! Get focused! What can you leave out and what do you need left in? Is there some kind of function, design detail or colour that makes more sense than others? Start evaluating your ideas critically! Get designing! Create your draft designs using pen and paper or by building models using Technic bricks. Use this process to test a specific colour scheme or to evaluate a curve, line or shape or to test a new function. Sometimes you may come up with a great new function but it won’t fit your overall design. Sometimes you may find a perfect curve or shape that just doesn’t work in a certain colour scheme – Don’t despair! It happens to us all the time! Combine, edit and narrow down your ideas to come up with your final design – just like we do! Take your time! When you think you have a finished design, leave it be for a couple of days. Don’t look at it and don’t work on it. Then go back and critically reassess your design. Ask yourself if this is the ideal new look for the 4X4 Crawler? Is this your absolute best effort? If the answer is no, it’s back to the drawing board! If the answer is yes – then you are ready to upload and submit your design! SUBMIT! It’s easy! All you have to do is: 1. Go to www.lego.technic.com/campaign 2. Login using your LEGO ID* 3. Upload your fantastic new 4x4Crawler design Acceptable uploads/design formats include: • Photos/images/Video (jpg, jpeg, png, gif, avi, mov, wmv, mpg, mpeg, lxf) • Computer generated designs • Scan/image of designs & illustrations created on paper Remember: Your design must be uploaded before Midnight, 31.12.2012 CET! *If you don’t have a LEGO ID create one at https://account.lego.com/en-us/SignIn.aspx WIN! To win, your design will need to be selected for the competition shortlist by the LEGO Technic Jury. The Jury will select ten finalists from amongst all the submissions based on the following criteria: • Overall coolness • Inspired design details • Design that people will purchase • A great colour scheme • Buildable using existing LEGO Technic elements • Well thought out functions • The relationship between your age and your design We want you to make your design as amazing as possible. However, you need to consider the following when creating your design: • Designs for military vehicles or vehicles featuring weapons will not be eligible for the competition • Copies of or design infringements relating to any existing third party property or any other intellectual property right(s) will not be eligible for the competition We will do our very best to follow your design as closely as possible. However, we have to make sure that: • We can manufacture the colours you suggest • Others can build the final model and we can create easy to follow building instructions • Your design can be built using existing LEGO Technic elements • The final model is safe to play with • The frame and mechanics of the 4X4 Crawler, model no 9398, will support your design To meet the above criteria, we may not be able to follow your design down to every last detail. For safety or other reasons, we may have to change the way a function works and there is a limit to how many bricks we can fit on to the frame. There is also a limit to how heavy, wide, long and high the final model can be, as well as a limit to how many bricks we can fit in the final box. Between the first and the tenth of January 2013 the LEGO Technic Jury will select the Top 10 candidates that you can vote for online using your LEGO ID – your vote will go toward determining which of the Top 10 is to be produced and launched! The Top 10 candidates must accept to transfer all intellectual property rights as outlined below. The LEGO Group will contact the Top 10 candidates directly. Online voting opens on 09 February and closes on 22 February. The winning design will be announced on 22 February 2013. No further prizes will be awarded. Our design team will work together with the competition winner to develop and build the winning version of the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawler. 20. @ ZBLJ: That is cool! Here is a quick 32-second showing the real Jeep Hurricane concept vehicle:
  21. @ Pat-Ard: Danilat just sent me an e-mail, and I copied/pasted it into a Eurobricks Private Message (PM) to you.
  22. In the "Comments" portion of his TechnicBRICKS article, Fernando Correia (Conchas) answered some our the questions posed on Eurobricks: Question #1: "Can you get clarification from The Lego Group about whether the COLORS of the 9398's chassis can be changed? When you wrote that "Just what you need is to keep the chassis....You can use any parts to go on top of the chassis", does that mean that we cannot CHANGE the COLORS used on the chassis at all?" Question #2: "Is it allowed to add some parts to the portalhubs to mount a mudguard direct on the portalhub? or is it neccessary to build a body which is completely removable by pulling out some pins?" His reply: "Ok, I'll have the opportunity to check that tomorrow. "I had already asked about the possibility to change the color of the chassis, but to be honest I'm not sure now about what the answer was. Think it is not allowed, but I'll confirm it again. "In general I think you should not be too worried about the details now. There will be more information about where to start, what could be changed and what could not, etc. "Nevertheless bear in mind the model will be reviewed to fit the LEGO building frames and then anything could be changed or adapted to make it fit. Once you can participate in many ways, such as drawings, general models, LEGO models (complete or just the top concept), I guess it not even need to fit perfectly on the chassis. It must be later adapted though. What you need to focus on, is to present something that will catch the voters attention and support, and that's buildable on top of the Crawler chassis, so that the LEGO Technic Designers could produce it later on. Otherwise it won't get into the selected 10 models for the final votation, even if it gets into the 100 most voted proposals by the fans. Greetings from Skaerbaek/Billund! Fernando"
  23. Although there is no proof (one way or another), the Lego Technic Design Team MAY have heeded MOST (but not all) of the Eurobricks AFOLs preferences for the 2012 Lego Technic Challenge: 1) We wanted at least 8 WEEKS to submit entries (and got ~3 months, until the end of December 2012). 2) The Challenge DOES ALLOW for parts different from the standard 9398 set. 3) TLG's method to deter plagiarized entries = ? (not known so far) ? 4) TLG is willing to consider different parts colors (even sketches). 5) We preferred (by just a tad) to have the entries show the parts that AFOLs had on hand, but TLG is allowing sketches. X 6) The Challenge entry is REQUIRED to use Power Functions elements (since it will be based on the 9398's PF chassis). 7) The maximum "price point" of the future set is at least USD $200 (~$156,69 Euros). 8) Is more than one entry allowed per person? (not known so far) ? We preferred only one entry per person.
