While the proportions are a little different, Lego911's recent "Octan Ultimate RC Drift Kombi [is an] iconic VW model of yesteryear; the Kombi ranks only after the VW Beetle and the most memorable and distinctive vehilce from the makers of the German 'People's Car....I knew it would take something a little extra to get credit. This is found under the model in the form of the Lego RC rollerskate [i.e., the bb396c01 "Electric, Motor RC with Steering Mechanism and Receiving Unit, Dark Bluish Gray Base"]. This component fits this model scale perfectly, and so here I present the Octan Racing Ultimate RC Drift Kombi Van. "The model is styled to the theme of the original Type 2 Van, though I may need to work on the roof pillar spacing. You may also not the over-large windows and skylight, though these features are to assist in maintaining line-of-sight from the RC sender unit. "My speed-crazy children now have a new favourite lego car, one which can drive itself into the kitchen cupboard, and off the kitchen table."

@ Povratnik: Kopmaister's rear mounted "back blade" is what farm tractors can use to clear snow. Although it is not ideal for a snow-removal vehicle to drive into fresh powder and THEN clear the snow from behind, my neighbor uses this setup to clear his driveway:

The Four Hour Build
DLuders replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think that you are building a 4-tread vehicle that can be steered like Zblj's "The Beast" (which uses Linear Actuators for steering).... -
RC Controller
DLuders replied to Kronos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sure, you can use two 8885 Power Functions Remotes (pinned side-by-side) to control two different Power Functions Receivers. -
RC Controller
DLuders replied to Kronos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For cars and trucks, I would recommend using the smaller 8885/ 58121c01 unit, since the signal won't "cut out" like the 8879/ 64277 unit does. There was this past Eurobricks topic that discussed the pros and cons of each. -
RC Controller
DLuders replied to Kronos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you get a 8879/ 64227 "Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control" to SMOOTHLY run the Technic Treads, you should consider adding some gears to it to make it easier to use. Here's a nice design by Sariel; there are many others on the web too. The variable speed control allows the vehicle to realistically start up and stop in a controlled manner, and not suddenly jerk around. Two regular 8885 / 58122c01 "Power Functions IR Remote Control" units (shown in the third picture below) will be fine for operating the other functions. -
Grohl's Creations
DLuders replied to grohl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I made a Lego Digital Designer (LDD) .lxf Building Instruction file for Grohl's "Trike Rider" 8271 alternate, and posted it on MegaUpload SkyDrive for people to download: https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5641cce2a1cc0886&resid=5641CCE2A1CC0886!177&parid=5641CCE2A1CC0886!175 . The PDF Parts List is available here. I built it with real bricks too, and it brings a smile to people's faces! Thanks for sharing it, Grohl! [NOTE: One must attach the rider's nose and breastplate; they are resting on the LDD baseplate as shown here.]- 784 replies

part request location?
DLuders replied to widetent's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, the 47404 "Boat Bow Brick 10 x 12 x 1 Open" is in the Lego Digital Designer (LDD) v4.1.8 parts pallette. Be sure that you are in LDD Extended Mode to access all of the available parts. Once LDD is open, do a search in the top-left part of the LDD screen for the parts named "Stern". It will pop right up as the last piece you see in the Parts Pallette. -
Nice minifig-scale bus! There are several Bluebird school buses going up and down my street every day: Did you build your model on the bb396c01 "Electric, Motor RC with Steering Mechanism and Receiving Unit, Dark Bluish Gray Base" that came with the 8183 Track Turbo RC and 8184 Twin X-Treme RC sets?

@ Jochen: Your Brickshelf gallery shows 21 pictures of the "8265 8258 modifcations for driving, by only changes in the last segment." Does your photo below show exactly where one deviates from the official 8265 8258 Building Instructions, or is it a few pages before that? On which of the 4 instruction booklets, and on which page number, should one begin your modifications instead of following the official instructions?

@le60head: I think that Sokratesz was referring to the old toothed 4265a (Type 1) Technic 1/2 Bush (first picture below), which has more sharp 90-degree corners where "stress concentration" can occur. The 4265b (Type 2) Technic 1/2 Bush and modern, smooth 4265c Technic 1/2 Bush (second and third pictures below) have fewer 90-degree sharp corners, so the stress concentration (and potential for cracking) is less:
