I may be infatauted at the moment but I believe this is looking to be the best modular we've had -Nice dark green awnings -Chandelier! -Nice source or clear smoke parts! -dark green 1x2x3 windows -5 minifigs It's incredible. Looks like Green Grocer though, is still the interior king with a fully tiled interior. It does have the 8x8 space covered whereas Cafe Corner didn't, so this may look more massive than CC. I'm really, really infatuated with the set right now, though.

They're using tan baseplates? Or is that just extra plates... And how' ya gunna get down with just a one-way escalator? Clearly, we need to buy more than 1 copy, the justification is piling :skull: I always imagined a department store should be much bigger than that...

I'll be optimistic and say there's still a few LEGO stores (in IL) that has some Cafe Corners, though I wouldn't waste time xD And I still had plans to buy another CC (for parts) and I'll likely abandon that plan even without CC's discontinuity because GE is looking to be a much better parts source anyways.

And I'm wondering... how would that work? I don't have enough knowledge of new Technic pieces that I can't picture how it would work inside a cramped building (moar reason to buy more than 1 copy much?)

Well, I'm a bit disappointed if its indeed a suburban house rather than an actual City Townhouse a la Market Street.

The set of 2010 has shown itself! wooootles is sooo buying 2 or 3 of these, sorry Fire Brigade! The general shape is so basic, yet so good, I can easily see myself buying a corner one and modding another to connect both! This reminds me of the Macy's/Saks in NY... great design. The large amount of grey and tan means it's also a good parts source... if it's floor area is anything like CC it's going to have a ton of sidewalk tile pieces... rawr!

Love what you've done here. -Diagonal windows = very nice -Nice choice of colors, tan is very modular-friendly. -Ceiling height for the 1st floor too low, considering its a dept. store. Two or three more brick heights would make it better
-
Glad it's tan instead of the yellow I initially believed... It may even be as good a parts pack, too... Compared to all the drama and qq ensued by the TRU exclusive, I'm pretty positive this one will be a unanimous hit among us forumers.

Nice set. nice review. I think the truck can still be a bit better, as I find it a bit stubby---I'm thinking about using the same truck design used in the Tow Truck.

AFOL and their approach to the hobby by theme
wooootles replied to Legoist's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As an AFOL once I get a layout going I probably won't include a CITY building set from the box anymore. CREATOR house sets maybe. I'll keep Exclusive modulars like GG and CC like they are, they look too good to be broken down (why mess with perfection? Ok, CC needs an interior but still!). My future layout will consist of Exclusive modulars, MOCs, and heavy modded sets. For example, my ongoing project is a Pizza Corner. With parts from the 7641 it's dressed up to match modular buildings and looks completely different from the basic 7641. Vehicles are a different story. LEGO cars and trucks are very good right now, and they're cheap. They're filler for the streets. I'll keep some of them as they are although I would still probably do minor mods on some of them. A 'classic' style town layout just won't do it for me anymore. -
It's nice. I think you can improve it by shortening the wheelbase, by pushing the rear wheels to the center a stud or two.
-
I still hope they keep the 2005 cars though, I already stocked a few and they're timeless designs. How about a remake of 6543, now that you bring up boats? Another set in the 90s I liked but never had. I bet that would rank highly with the AFOLs tastes in here!
-
I wouldn't mind new police Exclusive Modular, actually. Or, if they do make a new police station (which they will ) I hope it looks more like an actual police station rather than the towering skyscrapers they usually make police stations out to be. I doubt it tho
-
Now that's just sweet. Even better that someone posted a real Smart car dealer. Now you just need a crooked dealer minifig!
-
I got my instructions from the box when I bought the new sets I might want to take a peek on instructions of some sets that I don't see on my TRU yet---like the Octan truck. But then TRU will get even that before S@H so
-
Maybe 1 or 2 of those things, but it probably won't be a complete interior. Not even the Green Grocer has a complete interior Town Plan II?
-
And that means... what, to us? That therefore AFOLs should get every $100+ LEGO set catered to them? Or really, EVERY LEGO SET catered to them? (Because, I remember the massive QQ about the new Fire sets) I can't believe grown men here is aghast at the fact that an invisible TOYS'R US Exclusive doesn't cater to their needs, it's like I really need to double check what the "A" stands for in AFOL
-
LEGO has been much much nicer to AFOLs these past 3 years than they have since... ever, giving us these modular sets. But alas, some people just want everything catered to them and proclaim NEEDS MOAR CIVEELIANZ in the city line even though the modulars and CREATOR houses are... just that. I'm almost convinced that Train won't be it, seeing that we have 2 new Train sets coming this set. In that, a monorail shuttle may even be less likely. We can forget the City Square. I find myself almost rooting for the Truck Stop, whereas it was even between the choices for me when I first stumbled upon the poll. Gas pumps, diners, big trucks, shop, a motel even, with the hinted enormous price tag I hope it includes most of those. One thing I'm sure of is that it would be a minifig sausagefest. Ah well.

MOC: Modular Apartment with Erdy Icecream chain shop
wooootles replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Town
That's a fancy staircase thar! -
Well, we're lucky if we get 3 8x16's That's something LEGO needs to start doing again, especially since roadplates are more expensive now....putting more 32x32's in big sets.
-
That grill is fantastic, as well as the seat arrangement. The empty space in CC is really a lot smaller than it looks when you try to put a bar/cafe inside it, and I think you did a swell job. Gives me inspiration with my future plans for my empty CC

... <-This "A"FOL doesn't mind the truck stop at all. I missed the most recent Gas station, and I'm sure I can work the Truck Stop to make it more city-friendly. It may be an exclusive, but a TOYS' R US Exclusive! Ya' know, that magical place where parents buy their little LEGO fans their fire trucks and all that good stuff? Forgive me for being blunt here, but come on... It's kinda stupid of LEGO if they make a Toys'R Us Exclusive NOT targeted at "Toys'R Us kids" now doesn't it? And before people try to bring up "too expensive for kids" as a counter to this possibly-big TRU Exclusive: When I was in Chicago last week in one of the LEGO stores, kids, funded by their parents, routinely walk out with $90 police stations, bigger star wars things and trains with stupid grins on their faces. epic. If that's true it's going to contain a lot more than a few pumps with a roof and some trucks. Thanks for the hint. Also it's hinting that the city house would be around $45 USD.

Still plenty of stock at Target and Toys R Us.

Moar comments! thanks again guys! Can't disagree with you there. I like the handle, but I don't have 1x1 and 1x2 or 1x3 flat tiles, so the studs will have to stay... for now :skull:
