  1. Dang it, now that is awesome. I love the pipers, and I am glad you beat me to it - yours are very cool. However, with my character's last name, you better believe we have some bag-piping traditions in Eastgate. Love the light work you did on the first picture. Makes me realize even more how important a good background is.
  2. Just a note - and I have not read the post yet, but force multiplying makes sense for the smaller collectors out there. I don't think it is fair that Eastgate can't be conquered because I physically own about 2000 soldiers, and almost nobody else can muster that amount. Besides, in each MOC and battle men die, we recruit more, they are represented by the same figs in later battles. (heck they may even be wearing the same dented armor!) I have a feeling that this is the reason why Historica was not about war to begin with... I would hate for some people to feel left out because they only have 15 or 25 minifigs.
  3. Dear Avalonians, We at the Greater Eastgate Article and Resupply Company are at your service when purchasing your war supplies. We have the finest forges in the world in Kaliphlin, and our trade networks stretch into the great unknown continents of the world in order to bring you the best equipment. Want blasting powder? We can get you the powders of Mitgard or the fine grains of Kaliphlin quicksmoke. Want blankets? We can supply the best cotton from Kaliphlin and Wool from Mitgardia. Need lamp or heating fuel for those dark and cold nights on the march? We can bring you the finest oils of Kaliphlin sands. Need steel? We happen to own and operate one of the largest forges on the continent. And because we like you, from now on until the end of this disturbance, 20% off all goods that go to fighting Drow. Signed, Petera MacLean Second Lord of Eastgate GEAR Co
  4. AWESOME! A printing press! Eastgate would like to place an order for one or two of these fabulous machines. Great work.
  5. Man, you just reminded me I need to get to Pick a Brick soon. I tend not to buy 2x4, but with this method I might. That is how my containers often look! Posted by Petera MacLean: First note of business - Dugal has been missing for quite some time now. We do not know his whereabouts, and because of this time of growing tension GEAR is offering a 10000 gold piece reward for his safe return. He was last seen entering the badlands with a small band of men to check on one of GEAR's many oil rigs. We fear that Dugal's past run-ins with the Drow may have made him a target now that they seem to be on the move. Please help us find Lord Dugal before it is too late. If you have seen him, please have your artist render a picture of what he was doing when you saw or spoke with him, and post it on our common message system here. Second, with the drums of war seemingly beating louder and louder, I Petera MacLean, Second Lord of Eastgate and brother to Dugal, have refitted the vast GEAR navy for action. We stand ready for Lord Flagg's command. (I hope to actually get my Lego tables set up soon so I can jump back into the action.)
  6. 16 = 2 11 = 2 32 = 1 Damn. Just Damn. Great job everyone.
  7. I have returned... And I see that the deadline for challenge III has been extended... There is a possibility that I may be able to produce something for it after-all. Moving was a nightmare. House is nice, I will find room for LEGO. But dealing with AT&T for two weeks to get internet was a nightmare... I ended up finding a local company and much less stressed for it. Anyway, I should be a regular again starting in the next week as I catch up on my web time in most of the classes I teach / grade online. Looking forward to commenting on the guild entries thus far!
  8. A lot happening here the last couple weeks! We did very well in the free builds, way to go guild! Gabe, that harbor is a beauty. It has a vibrant and living feel to it, great addition to the Kaliphlin landscape. Scubacarrot, I have to agree with what has been said already - that curved wall is amazing, I look forward to the completed project. Always good to see velociraptors too. :) I am missing a few of the other great works from late, but when I get settled into the new place I will go back and look at the guild's creations in more detail. For Kaliphlin! On a side note, anyone else excited about tonight's Game of Thrones premier?
  9. I have some bad news, I may be absent in the building department for a while. My landlord decided to sell the house that I am in, so I will be scrambling to find a place. So the next few months I may have to have my collection in boxes. I will still be around the forums and commenting though. I almost most definitely will miss the 3rd challenge. I am sorry, I know we need the points.
  10. I agree, I try to get to everyone in the guild's MOC, but I don't have incredible amounts of time. Although, if I see your MOC I will make sure I give it a bump... you are my guildmates after all. Even if that means just a "Great job, I like technique x you used" :) I do try to reciprocate feedback, but it doesn't always happen. Anyway, I don't think we have this in Kaliphlin, most people here are laid back about their posts and MOCs, and we are fairly regular about getting 5 or 6 comments to everyone. Also, we tend to comment in this thread often also.
  11. I agree, Is he tickling her to death? That bear is deceptively cute. Awesome story. Midterm week is killing my free time with grading, so I probably won't get a story down by the end of the weekend. But I really like the stories so far!
  12. It has been raised elsewhere, but is there a set explanation for why we will be finding 20 of each crystal? Actually, I think I like the idea of getting to the crystal only to find it wasn't actually there... haha Also, does this have to be one build - one platform... or can we have a series of builds in one thread to tell a story?
  13. Yes, we have a lot of future building a head of us. I think we have a superb group to do so. As for Avalonia, we have always known that they were more about fey, dragons, and stuff of myth and legend, which they often felt they must conquer through brute strength. It does not surprise me that they take pride in newer and better torture devices (although, I am pretty sure we invented most of those here in Kaliphlin - have you ever met a Avalonian mechanic? I didn't think so) As for group builds / mini contests, so far the list looks like this Current - Myth Proposed - Zoo, Battle Vignettes (quite glorious), Museum, University, Market... did I miss any? I think if we follow through with these, our realm will be the cultural capital of the world. (Not that we are not already, but this would further prove it.)
  14. I would have to say my tale is quite the same. I joined this site a long time ago just for the pirates portion. I never even left that forum for a couple years! However, I didn't MOC all that much after I moved away from my main collection in 2007 (Actually, it is seeming that my main collection now lives with me, especially after the amount of BL purchases for GoH I have made... Although I still have a huge fleet in storage) I still frequented the Pirates boards, but would go a couple months without logging on. Then I accidentally found the GoH posts and instantly found the desire to MOC again. It has been a catalyst for ideas and new techniques... now if I could just get round walls down pat.
  15. My suggestion for the next guild build was going to be the Great University of Magiks, Sciences, and the Arts in Petraea. Like the Zoo, everyone would take a certain sector of the university and build it. I had been building a University for Eastgate, but thought the same thing about it being perhaps better suited for Petraea. I am still building an Academy of Magic though, it should be my next large free build.
  16. That is a great idea. I would like to take a shot at a monkey exhibit if we do this (unless someone else had their heart set on that). We could perhaps make this our next guild challenge after the myth challenge has ended?
  17. I have also heard that they can phase in and out of reality, almost like a mage's teleport, but they can stay phased out for a period of time. This helps them sneak up on an adventurer. DaMaximus: I used the series 3 baseball play as the base (I liked the red accent stripes when the logo was hidden behind the armor and the belt) and I added the series 4 Hockey pads backwards as armor. I thought I was being clever, but it turns out that Star Wars minifigs have been using it for the same thing for a while. It is a normal crusaders helmet with an after market plume put in made by Brickforge. The collar and shoulders are also made by Brickforge. This was the first time I have bought non-lego accessories, but I have been pretty pleased. Also, I am working on a "Casual Dugal" fig, although he wears the armor a lot because of assassination attempts.
  18. I know I said I would do it within the month... but better late than never... The current Dugal MacLean: Dugal MacLean by princeofska, on Flickr and in battle dress and holding the Golden Axe of Eastgate (Osmone's Axe - MOC coming soon) Dugal MacLean by princeofska, on Flickr
  19. I ended up buying a ton of those heads pretty cheap, they were in the Monster 4 game with werewolves and vampires too. Also, since the Lerik'ai come in darker shades, I would think any red, maroon, or black head would do. (Maybe with an occasional discoloring like gold?) I think I was going to get a few Darth Maul heads to show some of the less common looking members of the race. I was for a while going to have them have horns or bone like structures, but those Darth Maul horns are kind of expensive, so I think this is a trait only a few may have. I figure they are probably lightly armored, favor the knife over the long sword, along with speed and stealth over brute force. I originally created them to be the basic bad guy for a lot of us more "civilized" Kaliphlin traders - especially the oil merchants, but I am sure they have some redeeming qualities of some sort. Think of them as Kaliphlin's drow, only less cocky and more to the point. As for the history section, I think that is a good idea about the wiki. I think the myth of Kaligem that is up there right now is a version of the one I wrote a while back. I think it explained why we were a desert, and we can generally agree two things from the myth 1) that Kaliphlin used to rule the continent and 2) It used to be a rich savannah with wildlife, farms, and a large population. Now the history gives a version of the story that involves the gods. As far as modern Kaliphinians know, the gods don't make a direct appearance in everyday Kaliphlin. So there is something supernatural about the story. That is not to say it isn't true, and that people don't treat it as truth, it just really can't be verified at this moment. Maybe a few archeologists may find otherwise in the months to come?
  20. I have wanted to do that too! We could have a lot of fun and flesh out more history that way. Kcaj, yes it is a fire demon. The Lerik'ai worship the flame, and often sacrifice (like this poor unfortunate traveler) to the flame in order to speak with their gods. They are also known to sometimes use these fire demons in battle, although they often lose control of them. BTW, I put the centaur picture up just in case we needed a centaur pic for the wiki or the guide.
  21. I meant at the bottom of the page related links, but yes having a categories section at the top definitely makes it easier to navigate. With related links or "further reading" section, navigation throughout the Wiki is not necessarily dependent on backtracking to the main page. For example, on the Kaliphlin cities page there would be a related link to Avalonian cities page - so you can laterally move pages instead of only move up and down the hierarchy. Also, I think it is fine that people edit other guilds from time to time, especially to clean it up - what I said may have come out wrong. I meant people from one guild just adding and changing the structure, content, and links of another guild. Or actually, more importantly deleting sections completely. I think everything you are doing is to clean up the site and make it look professional - I commend you for that. EDIT: I just saw your Archduchy page - I really like the look of it. I will probably try to emulate it with Eastgate's page at some point.
  22. I am SkaForHire, Creator of Wikis, Destroyer of Forums! What have I done bringing this here? Ok, so kidding aside. Let's just leave it up to the individual guild to decide what is on their portion of the Wiki. If you are not part of one guild, don't monkey around too much with another guilds pages. That will keep the infighting down a bit. A few of us should volunteer to be "cleaners" that try and clean everything up when we have a chance, and keep checking periodically. Please always use a related links section - it makes navigation easier. The way Wikipedia works is there are usually general pages and specific pages, for example, on the Kaliphlin page we have the long history of the fall of Kaligem. This should be its own page and Kaliphlin history should be paraphrased on the main page with a link to Detailed history of Kaliphlin. Also, NM, I think all of your maps have a place in a section called Cartography of Kaliphlin - if the rest of the guilds do not want to have a general cartography section that is alright, they don't have to have one. Your maps are an invaluable part of our guild's stories. Finally, for now, We could agree on a no more than three pictures limit on MOC displayed in the Wiki. Also, I think that all MOC pages, or pages displaying a MOC need a direct link back to the forum topic. That way we keep the two systems integrated. What it comes down to is that there is a lot of information that people want to add to the project, more than can go on a Guild's first post. It is counter productive to limit the amount and type of content that goes on the wiki. People just have to be aware of creating new pages and linking correctly to keep it organized. Which may mean that some of us will have to divide pages frequently to keep things clean.
  23. Robuko, I really like it! Good entry, I like that he was not a good guy in the end :) Good story to scare greedy little children. Gabe - I forgot to say congrats! And to the rest of the guild - we will get them next time. I thought our average quality was really good - Better than Avalonia, that is for sure! -- but we just could not beat the math I guess! Oh yeah, some more pics for the races: The lerik'ai by princeofska, on Flickr and Female Centaur by princeofska, on Flickr Edit if needed.
  24. Wow, go to work, come back and I am already non-relevant! :) Great job putting a GoH wiki out there. I like what you all have done with it. One thing that we should probably make a rule for Kaliphlin pages --- Always put in a related links section at the bottom of the page and list Kaliphlin in there... All you have to do is write Kaliphlin, highlight it, and hit the link button. The dialogue will popup and you just hit ok. This will make it so much easier to navigate our guild's library (wiki). I will do a little clean up and link maintnence on Thursday once we start getting more information in there. I don't think we need any real posting rules. Both DaMaximus's and NiceMarmot's character profiles are really cool. We don't need a template, and we should not make any information required. I added a few things from my Wiki to the new one, but will contribute more after I get through this mountain of tests I am grading. Also, I have a centaur pic we can use for the guide, if my phone ever uploads the pic :) I think if Mikel is willing, his guide should definitely have a space in Kaliphlin's pages.
  25. Oh, well I don't think it automatically cross references, however if there is a page with the same title as the text, you can just highlight the word, click link and then make sure internal link is checked - it should automatically find it. As for a GoH wiki, I have Thursday off, I could start that and then transport the little we have right now over to it manually (copy and paste, but we only have a few pages so far) Then if the other guilds don't want to do it, we can just run Kaliphlin side of the site by itself.
