LEGO Prince of Persia Contest - Entries Discussion Thread
Dunjohn replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks! I think it just shows how awful my photography is, though. I'm gonna work on that this week and hopefully submit better shots before the deadline. The stalls are really cracking me up. I'm working on a stall right now but I'll struggle to be a contender. -
LEGO Prince of Persia Month - the Eurobricks Contest
Dunjohn replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Licensed
Aww. I've just noticed that winners will be decided by public poll. That means I'll have to actually pick a favourite stall. Nothing's ever easy. -
I understand that the whole line is a Lego Shop/Toys'R'Us exclusive on the British Isles, which is fantastic, because neither store has outlets in the Republic . I only have one set, which I bought off the shelf of a regular toy store in Italy last year.

A whole day dedicated to carboot sales!? That's it, we need to bring back the monarchy....

Urgh, this set is looking more expensive by the minute, but I still wanna get it. Hope I can afford it when the time comes. Thanks for the peek, but I'm not up on my train terminology: What are blinders? That middle wheel without the rim?

I got this set yesterday for parts (the bush, horse and black keffiyeh for contest entries - thanks for expanding my lexicon btw), and yeah, I was dead pleased with it. Four figs loaded down with accessories plus a horse is a bargain for the price of a regular battlepack. I don't like the skeleton, though, his arms are useless, he's only good for lying there dead and the other skeletons can do that AND cheerlead when required. That wasn't enough to pull points off my opinion, though. I didn't actually build it, though. I assembled the minifigs but shuffled the scenery parts away immediately. It's functional but basic.

To be or not to be: LEGO minifig in shorts?
Dunjohn replied to Minifig Lecturer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You could use child legs and put two 1x1 tiles under each leg. I'd post a photo demonstration, but I don't own any yellow 1x1 tiles. Weird. -
Nice one, Oky. That was an excellent little gadget. A word of warning, however: Don't trust anything that's come out of a fridge with that many lights on the top of it.

Will there be more Prince of Persia Sets?
Dunjohn replied to legitimatealex's topic in LEGO Licensed
It always bugged me majorly that the Speed Racer line of sets did absolutely nothing to represent the combat racing which was a huge part of the movie. There was the truck set but I'm talking about the cross-country race. So there's already a precedent for Lego to omit elements of a licence to make their own sets feel more consistent. Since Speed Racer only had a single wave of sets, as a stand-alone movie/set release, I'm expecting Princ of Persia to follow suit. -
LEGO Prince of Persia Contest Entries - Category 2
Dunjohn replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Licensed
Cameltraz The most dangerous job in Persia requires the strongest facilities and the very best technology in the world. That's right - camel herding. This Persian version of one of my favourite Power Miners sets - 8191 Lavatraz - features a fully working camel hoist and suspended control cab, allowing the herders to move their beasts around from safely high above the ground. However, if those deadly domedaries get out of control, they could smash through the front of the reinforced cage and escape! Fortunately, the snare-a-pult can quickly recapture any stray camels. The facility also contains a fruit juicer to help the herders combat the harsh desert sun. Of course, I couldn't build a desert-themed set without using my precious micro-mummies. See if you can spot them. Edit: Replaced images -
Alright, I've done it! Here's Dunjohnbot getting ready for the audition. He's put himself down for the role of Prince Dastan, but he'll settle for Princess Tamina if he has to. He has an excellent range. And here he is in action! What an unbelievable performance! He really pulls the role off, I mean he's absolutely nailed it! Let's zoom in for a close-up. This guy is a master. Just look at how perfectly straight he's standing. He was made for the silver screen, he was just made for it.

LEGO Prince of Persia Month - the Eurobricks Contest
Dunjohn replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Licensed
My entry for Persian Version is coming along nicely. I went out and bought Fight for the Dagger to get some nice pieces for it, and I'm only after noticing that that's the prize for this category anyway. Still, I can hardly complain. The set has twenty of those lovely medium nougat arches, and what's better than twenty? Forty! -
I'm wondering if I should read the Arther C. Clarke book Garden of Rama. Apparently it's the third in the Rama series but I don't own the first two. This one was recently rediscovered in the bottom of a drawer. I'll probably play it safe and reread Karen Miller's Hekat trilogy instead, I just got part 3 and it's a year since I finished part 2, I forget everything. Just finished Philip K. Dick's Time Out of Joint.

A tiny bit fuzzy on the rules despite your attempts to make it abundantly clear for idiots such as myself: It can be literally anything? Not especially Lego? Like my avatar, it doesn't have that much to do with Lego, could I redraw him in a PoP style?

Hmm, yeah, I've kinda cooled to this set, but I'm planning to get the train set if I can afford it and this would get me the basic Lotso to fill out the character lineup (plus, obviously, the two hench...things) so I may end up getting it anyway. We'll see how it works out. I still adore the chunky toy look of it, but it just doesn't look like an interesting set in terms of build, parts etc.

Prince of Persia Lego and Gold Plastic Syndrome
Dunjohn replied to Alldarker's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is the first I've heard of GPS. Fascinating. Something to watch out for. Glad to hear it's not a problem in Lego. -
http://shoryuken.com/content.php?r=629-Its-Mahvel-Baby This looks quite epic. Hopefully it'll continue the mental craziness of MvC2.

Watched the Burton version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory over the weekend. Wow, Mr. Wonka has sure increased his Ooma-Loompas' production values. Mental movie. Can't really say which is better, this or the original. They're both differently excellent.
-
I gave my No.1 to Admiral Croissant, the sheer craziness of what's happening had me laughing when I saw it. No.2 to Oky-Wan for creativity, execution and trippiness but I had a real ntough time deciding on which of those two should get the three points. If I had a third vote I'd have given it to Mr. Tools for the great little idea, not to mention the wonderful kitchen.

My God... they're INVINCIBLE!

The Hobbit and planned sequel Discussion
Dunjohn replied to The Legonater's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I did enjoy the Hobbit book more than the Lord of the Rings novels. They're all fantastic, obviously, but the Lord of the rings was this big, sweeping epic, while the Hobbit was a nice, comfortable adventure. I just preferred it. One thing I'm expecting them to do is explain Gandalf's absence a bit more. We know he was off dealing with a Sauron brushfire and couldn't accompany Bilbo for most of it as a result, but that wasn't really mentioned in the book. He was just "busy." I hope to God they keep one little fact in mind: It doesn't need to be better than the LotR movies. It just needs to be as good. Nobody's asking for better. -
Most Annoying and Best Adverts in your Country?
Dunjohn replied to Jipay's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I don't think the webuyanycar ads play on Irish t.v. (do they? I watch hardly any t.v.) and I realise they're annoying, but I do have a certain respect for how professionally annoying they are. They're like the exact opposite of Cillet Bang ads, which are just amateurishly annoying by comparision. AN EXAMPLE OF A CILLET BANG AD. YES, I KNOW I'M SHOUTING. I CAN'T HELP IT RIGHT NOW. I'VE JUST WATCHED SEVERAL CILLET BANG ADS TO GET TO THE RIGHT ONE. WHY THE HELL DID SHE LET HER SINK GET SO DIRTY. FILTHY WOMAN! -
Darn, I was hoping for a rush of great MOCS right before the deadline I think I know which one I'll be voting for, and it ain't mine. The Figquidator's way outclassed by most of these. Thanks for organising this!

I have the same problem, but with entire categories of pieces rather than single parts. I'm quite obsessive about breaking my collection down into sorted bags and boxes, but I often forget what I've classed something as. Is it a car part? A hull part? Spaceship part? Maybe it's in Random City? Oh wait, it had a pin... so is it in Joints or Technic?

Sonic the Hedgehog 16-bit level tunes. All five games, in order. It's like I'm Megadrivin' AND internetin'!
