  1. This is PF but have you come across this guy? http://www.hackvandedam.nl/blog/?page_id=547
  2. Long time ago I got started on controlling PF from an Android phone with IR. Got the PoC working but never took the time to take it any further. Here is someone who has done some reverse engineering on the remote control signals: https://ofalcao.pt/blog/2017/decoding-rcx-ir-command-protocol Should be possible to write an Android program for that...
  3. Ah, that old trick. I used that for one of my KoFs. It kinda works, but it's not great. As someone explains in the comments here, you lose a bit of the voltage, slowing your train down: It's a very nice model though - lots of nice little details.
  4. Chibi is exactly what I was thinking! Reminds me of those model railways in a suitcase you sometimes see at shows: So next challenge: Emerald Chibi?
  5. Sorry @Phil B, that comment was not aimed at you but at the gentlemen before you.
  6. Of someone posting another builder's MOC? (Did you even read the post or click the link?)
  7. The Brickshelf link: https://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=497691 Nice engine! You obviously put a lot of thought into that chassis. Nice idea for the on/off switch as well - must remember that!
  8. @michaelgale Do you have an idea of the price range for that kit? My first order will probably be two kits for two crossovers (and no idea what to do with the R64's ;- )
  9. There is another option. As @John Hill pointed out, there's only a small part of the switch that actually moves and that part is spring loaded. All you need is a way to push it to one side. A while ago I played around with a way to control the double crossover and came up with this mechanism: Crossover Control V2 by Duq, on Flickr In the description on Flickr there's also a link to a video that shows the full crossover in action.
  10. It's a nice 6W City interpretation of a BR111. Proportions are a bit off for a scale model but that doesn't matter. If I can make one more suggestion for you pantograph, if you put a 1x1 tile with clip on the ski's then you get them a bit closer to the bar. That'll probably look better than the way they're sitting on stilts now.
  11. Shame you can't expect perfection from the mothership anymore nowadays.
  12. Or Google Drive ;-)
  13. Will the new motor bogies have an option to switch between 9V and 12V operation? Or will they just be slow in mixed operation on a 9V layout?
  14. Very nice! The '50 with cab-tender has long been on my to-do list. I'll get around to it... How do the Bricks-on-rails rods compare with the Trained bricks rods? Are the cabin windows the original printed 1x2x2 bricks or custom-made?
  15. BR94 rear lights by Duq, on Flickr Decided to keep going with the engine and add some lights. For now tail lights only as I'm awaiting an order of LEDs with longer wires.
  16. Thanks Thorsten & Dennis! @LEGOTrainBuilderSG I didn't take pictures, no. I sent you a DM; I can make you two adapter cables and send them to you if you want.
  17. I remember Lego's stories about the number of designs and colours, and cutting back on those. Looking at the past few years they seem to be doing the same thing again, lots of weird single use parts and I've lost count of the number of shades of blue in production.... I'm lucky enough to have visited Billund and have spoken with various people there. They have tried selling single engines and cars (last time was 2002/ 2005 with the Santa Fe + passenger cars and then BNSF + TTX) and the figures just don't add up. A Lego train is mostly a Christmas gift according to their market research and few kids would get more than a passenger train and a freight train. Selling a separate train car would take up a slot of a fire engine or police car of which they'd sell many more. They'll probably keep doing 2 trains every 4 years and the occasional theme train, and if we're lucky some Creator Expert trains every few years, but not expecting much more. Sadly.
  18. I love the train! Agree with comments about the chances of trains on Ideas but giving up will never get a train made so keep excellent entries like this coming. One thing though: Adler first ran in 1835. Electricity didn't arrive in Germany until nearly 50 years later.... Maybe change the overhead power lines for something more accurate for the time?
  19. I remember that story about Ben but couldn't find any reference to it. The similarities between the wheels are obvious... (I prefer the Lego version to be honest). First time Lowlug was at a model train event in the Netherlands (looong time ago) during set up some of the 'serious' modellers walked by and saw us unpacking Lego. You could hear the "Tsk, what are those guys doing here?" comments. Next day the public were three rows deep around our tables while they got the occasional viewer. Over the weekend they came back to check us out and had to admit that those trains didn't look so bad after all... A few years later that experience was repeated in Ireland when we set up brick.ie and started attending train shows there. Pretty soon they were very happy for us to bring in families and get a younger audience to their shows but still weren't entirely happy that we kept winning the public vote for best exhibit ;-)
  20. While agreeing with most of what you said, I think you're wrong with this paragraph. The third party suppliers only started after many years of lobbying with the Mothership. It's been made clear in various interactions with various people at Lego that producing other track geometry for example is just not of interest to Lego. The demand from their target audience just isn't there. Also, I'd like to point out that the large driver wheels that Lego eventually introduced most likely would not have happened without Big Ben showing that in this case the demand does exist.
  21. Exactly. That's what I meant as well:
  22. Thanks Ben! We aim to please ;-) Seriously though - I don't build much but I do try to make every model better than the last one. I was already quite pleased with the BR 55 so I had work to do... I may have a go at fitting lights but I'd have to order some first. And a bigger shed to fit the shunting yard ;-)
  23. https://www.eurorailhobbies.com/product.asp?mn=36&ca=1&sc=O&stock=LE-40294.01 Pretty sure my BR94 cost less...
