Is there a reason the think these will be available in Jan? Would it not make more sense for TLC to release these just before xmas?

All other new 2007 sets (including new theme)
WhiteHexagon replied to sam89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I noticed a few of the aqua raiders sets on brickset.com and they don't look too bad at all :) better start the overtime already :) Peter -
That's what I was just wondering, hope they don't get pulled from here too? Glad I got a peek at them anyway. Now I'm just wondering how to convince the gf that SW fits into our MOC village theme :) I NEEED these sets :) Peter

I only have a few fleshies so far, and that's too many. Although maybe the Micheal Schumacher one will be worth something one day now that he's retired. I seem to remember that LEGO land Germany had minifig parts, anyone remember if these were classic faces? Maybe I just replace them all next time I vistit :-)

I really miss the simple :-) minifig faces. It seems that every set I buy these days has some snarling angry expression, or silly half hair cuts. Is it just me, or is this getting worse? Peter

People on a Megabloks forum want to know why...
WhiteHexagon replied to Echo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
After reading this topic I had another look at MB on the way home from work yesterday. Still nothing I would be tempted with, not even a lil' bit tempted :) But found something interesting, they also had another clone... 'ABRICKS'! Anyone heard of them? they seem to have even less studs than MB on the pieces, if that's possible. Are these the 'AsianBricks' I've read about occasioanly, or maybe 'AnothercloneBricks'. How many clones are there out there?? puts me off ordering from ebay just in case someone sneaks in a whole bunch of clone bricks. Peter -
Seems like woolworths have these sets now at 24.99. Not a bad price for 10 minifigs :)

WhiteHexagon replied to Echo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I must admit I've been tempted with MB a few times, I just don't like the big chunky preformed parts, or the fact that they are not 100% compatible. So I can't imagine ever purchasing any. Just the thought of having to find a new category for sorting them would be a strain. Although I have a few spare containers, which I call bins... ;) But having said that, I have no problem with MB fans(or thier sites). The more people buying the stuff, the more competition LEGO has, and this can only be good for the consumers of both products in terms of price. Although I worry that they will both starting to fight over license rights to films, rather than concentrate on the core products and home grown themes. Peter -
okay thanks. I'll put the power tools away again then :) you can close this topic then. Peter

Finally it arrived, but a small question, are the 4x4 black and white plates all glued to the white base plate? I lost a finger nail already...

are we falling into a dark age again?
WhiteHexagon replied to snefroe's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's a good year for me. I've been buying bits of LEGO over the last couple of years but nothing serious since my youth. It was only through researching my game that I discovered that LEGO even had an online community! Obvious really. So having great web sites like this, and people like you of EB, have inspired me to collect more and enjoy it more! I no longer feel guilty being an adult and buying LEGO for myself :) Although it is distracting me from my programming efforts ;) As long as TLG bring out 1 or 2 sets that I really like each year, then I guess I'll keep collecting. And I don't mind if there is other LEGO themes that I really hate, because it just saves me some money. Although I long for the simpler days of classic everything :) -
Thanks for the tip, it was on sale here in Germany too and I just had to order one :) I saw this set in Lego land this year here in Germany and really wanted it, but not at 50+ EUR. Shame you have to pay shipping here in Germany. It sounds like other countries get shipping for free? Peter

I considered buying some childhood sets for nostalgia, and partially an investment. But then I started to consider the cost and also the fact that if I bought an unopeneded set I wouldn't be able to play with it anyway. Also it would take up storage space somewhere, since I couldn't take the parts out of the box. And would I even be able to ever sell it again? probably not because of nostalgia, assuming lego even continues to keep its value. So I think now buying as an investment is just not going to work for me. And if I buy second hand then probably the bricks will have teeth marks if they looked anything like my old sets :( So my latest idea is just to find the instructions for the sets I used to own and try to accumulate enough new bricks to rebuild them! But maybe I'll still be tempted to buy some of the old minifigs :) Peter

Pictorial review: old style Lego boxes (Airtech 8868)
WhiteHexagon replied to gylman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The difference is that most people put the packaging straight into the bin, whereas we have brick link / ebay for recycling the bricks ;) -
Pictorial review: old style Lego boxes (Airtech 8868)
WhiteHexagon replied to gylman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Oh I quite like the simpler approach they have now (apart from ripping the box to open it). But less plastic packaging is also better for the environment and I can paper recyle the box if desired. In fact for me they could make the boxes a bit smaller (50% air anyway) and make the sets a bit cheaper :) As long as the bricks remain high quality, thats the bit I'm most interested in :) Peter -
To mod or not to mod (not for squeamish readers!)
WhiteHexagon replied to Brickthus's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I must admit I've never been tempted to mod. I see LEGO as a pure thing, it annoys me even when TLG create single pieces that could have been built using existing smaller bricks. But I supose they have the right to mod :) I think splitting pieces because the smaller halfs are rare and hard to find is also just wrong, but I can understand why someone would be tempted when MOC ing. Hopefully the LEGO factory will evolve to a state where single part multiples are no problem to order. Even if they only did production runs every two months of more unusual bricks, I'm sure people would wait. Or if they had promotions requireing minimum order levels from the community. I know I would like buy bricks in this way, especially if the did some limited classic piece re-runs :)) Peter -
just where have those figs pack gone?????
WhiteHexagon replied to kenji's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes I guess thats very true :) but as a child I did once buy 3 sets of the classic space 6 minifig pack . Just to have 6 of each color. And I bought a few duplicates of the train track ;) But in general I wanted new different sets, but could never afford them. And now that I can, they are no longer available :( Wouldn't it be great if TLG decided to do a classic revival... dreams on. Peter -

WhiteHexagon replied to kenji's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I bought set 7020 just for the cool viking minifigs :) and very happy with them, but also nicely surprised with the whole set. Although there are some wierd 'bricks' in there. The mechanics of the firing mechanism is really quite clever. Who on earth, and how on earth, did someone come up with this design. Well done TLG and thanks for the nice minifigs :) Peter -
All other new 2007 sets (including new theme)
WhiteHexagon replied to sam89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I can imagine that's part of the reason, but my guess is that the competion in the USA from mega blocks and other toys is much greater than that in the eurozone. Although I've also found in the past that most other goods are much cheaper in the USA. So much that its worth exporting from USA, paying the import tax in Germany + shipping and I still save a lot. My last digital camera, monitor and PC all came from the states. But next year the sales tax is going to be another 4%higher here :( so I guess should just buy my lego wishlist now :) Peter -

WhiteHexagon replied to sam89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
German vs US prices (S@H) Pasesenger Train #7897 99.99 EUR 79.99 USD (~ 62.28 EUR) Cargo Train #7898 159.99 EUR 149.99 USD (~ 116.78 EUR) Two set Total 259.98 EUR Two set Total 229.98 USD (~ 179.08 EUR) That's around 80EUR saving on two sets. Plus they are probably manufactured here and it costs TLG money to ship them to the states.. We are getting ripped off big time. Peter -
Seems like some of the September sets are already here in the stores in Frankfurt, Germany!! I saw both train sets in Kaufhof at the weekend, very tempted, but a bit too expensive and really annoying that its only IR and everything needs like a million batteries. Has anyone considered to build a rechargable engine unit thats controlled via radio rather than crappy IR? or even bluetooth... would be cool controlling a whole complex set with lights etc from some PC software, or even a phone... oh well, guess I try and finish my current game first before starting that project :) And I guess I wait for the spring sales for the trains :) Peter

WhiteHexagon replied to sam89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I heard theres a new batman movie being filmed currently, so maybe the sets will follow later next year. Looking forward to the new Creator House *wub* I wonder if there will more trains... So, I guess the wishlist 2007 topic is going to appear shortly... ;) Peter -
Are the bricks compatible with normal LEGO? It sounds like it was the LEGO company that first started producing these things so you would have thought so.

I was actually looking for another LEGO related topic and came across Modulex bricks, apparently created by LEGO many years ago and sold in bulk volumes to architects and the like. I've never heard of them and apparently neither has wikipedia shock! But I quite like the idea of ordering 30,000 of these things :-) I found a couple of links if anyone is interested, there are also some nice mosaic using LEGO too. A piture of a brick mosaics Peter

Well today I was given a small gift of LEGO, always nice! 7902 a small medical car & doctor because I haven't been well recently. Anyway I'm pleased to say the quality is fine :) but two of the 1x4 bricks had been replaced with technical 1x4 bricks. There was a not from LEGO technical in the box with a picture showing the replacement. I wonder if this is how they intend to dispose of the technic surplass :) And I wonder how brickset will deal with these type of changes... Peter
