  1. I recently started storing unused bricks in colour based stacks. Mainly because I'm still at the collection size where all my 2x1's for example fit into a single compartment. I was quite happy with this approach until today when I noticed some hairline cracks on a few of my bricks. Now I'm wondering if storing them stacked is adding unnessesary presure on the bricks. I know that they would be in the same situation if the were assembled into a model, and the cracks could have been there already, but somehow it's left me feeling a bit uncomfortable. None of my bricks are very old. Does anyone else store bricks in a stacked manner? or share this concern? or noticed more cracked bricks these days? Cheers peter
  2. Is it allowed to suggest any set with Princess Leia ;)
  3. Just to let you know I've created a demo account, so you can try without registering :) The account stays active for 5 mins at a time to allow other people to play. If you can't login on the 1st attempt, then please wait and try again a few minutes later. This will avoid the account getting blocked. I'm planning to add a tutorial very soon because I know the interface is a bit poor at the moment. If you select the character, you can find a small button on the left hand side is enabled, that allows you to move the minifig around. The blueprint editing should be fully functional now, and some small customisation of the minifig. If you like what you see, then please register and I'll do my best to keep improving things although suggestions are always welcome. http://whitehexagon.com/play Player: demo Password: playme (both lowercase) Have fun!
  4. some really nice roof top details, I espiecially like the roof on 'Lee's Cantonese dining' something useful for those bricks at last :)
  5. Wow, what a great idea. Now I wish I was living a bit closer to a LEGO shop! I left Köln just as the LEGO shop opened, so only got to visit twice, but that probably saved me a fortune :) But I was reading more about these displays, and I think I may have seen one in Munich?, without even realising it was AFOL work. I was too busy trying to stuff as many pieces as possible into a PAB tub ;)
  6. great! just out of interest where is this being displayed? I've never seen a community window, although my nearest LEGO shop is now far away. Is this a new idea from LEGO? I hope they pay you for helping sell more bricks! The local toy shop in Zurich had a large display case running a few weeks ago, but somehow I think you managed to get more detail into about 1/10th the space :)
  7. welcome :) I really like what you've done with the city accross two levels. In the first picture it looks in the bottom right coner as though the city has been built on the ruins of another city? (stacked road plates) . look forward to some more pcis, like what is the small building by the cement truck? peter
  8. was just on my way over to post the same link :) Anyway I think it looks quite fun, I can already picture a small lego USB fan connected to my mac. As allways it will come down to price, and if it's targeted at schools it's probably gonna be expensive.
  9. Update: We have a new build in place which fixes some of the bugs in the previous version, and also adds a few new features!! (and possibly a few new bugs...). We really appreciate people helping to test, if you already have an account, your current login details should still work. Otherwise feel free to sign up, it's free :) known problems: We have a backup strategy running on the server that causes the game to freeze for a couple of minutes, every 15mins. We are looking at solutions for this but decided keeping the data safe was the initially priority. If the game appears to freeze, just leave it alone for a couple of minutes and hopefully things will work again. The user interface seems to have a few issues between OSX and Windows. Busy trying to find common solutions for these. If anyone can test on other platforms, please email some feedback! Tip: If you design any blueprints, you can also export them for safe keeping. We are also working on a way to trade blueprints with other players. Anyway, give a try and we appreciate any feedback, positive or negative. What you see is about 10% of what we are planning, so stay tuned for more content soon. Cheers :)Peter
  10. anyway, hope it's not a duplicate post somewhere here... http://gizmodo.com/5022769/exclusive-inside-the-lego-factory pretty impresive operation! Peter
  11. These sets have some real potential, certainly for tourists / locals, but to me it looks like wasted packaging for only 69 black bricks. Personally I'd be a lot more interested if such a series was designed for famous landmarks all around the world, and most important, as a single collection. This would require setting a common scale, and probably alot more bricks per set. Otherwise those towers are gonna look a bit out of place next to the current iffel tower set (not saying this is a good scale). But I do like the idea of visiting somewhere in the world and coming back with some LEGO souveniers rather than the normal junk they try to push on you! Peter
  12. I really like the guys eating lunch on the girder, wouldn't mind a poster of that in my town somewhere :)

  14. hmm, how about a female minifig, you know, a couple of extra studs on the front ;) but I also second the bowler hat !
  15. Shame they have no accessories with them. I seem to recall along time ago buying a few space minifig packs. 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 white with a bunch of accessories. I think that's how they were. They were great packs, and I'd love to have a few classic space minifigs again. Hopefully they put a reasonable eur price tag onto the final product 10-15eur would seem about right?
  16. I think I'll start weighing new sets and try and work out an average. I only have one unopened set at the moment though. 4956 list £35 731 pieces weight: 1.7kg which gives approx. £20 / kg This kinda fits in with my limited experience so far that PAB is a rip off, but those prices might be better for insurance purposes ;)
  17. Thanks, and thanks to everyone else for the positive feedback! As requested the clock tower, really I was just trying to use up some ugly parts. I keep thinking to rip in out and build a proper clock tower. front back
  18. Wow! I love the detail. Shame the modular dimensions are a bit tight for space, but you did really well cramming all that into such a small interior. The menus are my fav for some reason, it just works! But now I'm craving a bag of fish 'n' chips and won't be back in the UK for 2 months :(
  19. I was looking at my town and trying to estimate the value. It's pretty easy on the big items, but there are so many pick-a-brick additions and smaller sets and storage boxes I'm struggling to come up with a reasonable estimate. I'm pretty sure that the cost of bricks has to be proportional to the amount of plastic used. So are there some metrics anywhere for average value per KG, new and used would be good. Cheers Peter
  20. Impressive Post Office!! How did you source that many bricks for the project? Do you know how many bricks it is? Looks almost twice the size of CC! I can imagine LEGO charging a small fortune for something that detailed :)
  21. Finally the town had to spill over onto a second table... greenville greyville summer park movie making talking to the dead the whole town
  22. So some great news that I wanted to share with you all. As many of you know I've been working very (very) slowly towards writing a small Java based video game based around plastic building bricks. Well finally I've reached a position where I can now work full time on the project!! So although there hasn't been much progress so far, I'm hoping that within the next few months I'll be able to get this game off the ground properly, and start implementing some of the great ideas some of you have already given me. Anyway I'll post again when I have something more to show, the current version is a bit buggy, and I will try to fix those bugs first of all. Thanks all for your support and encouragement so far, and I look forward to welcoming you all to a new release of the game world soon. Cheers Peter
  23. Something else for my games TODO list :)
  24. hmm, I like the idea of the washing machine, but don't really fancy to dismantle each house in my village for that special treatment. And I dont know about putting the thing in whole ;) Anyway my buildings are getting dusty and also somehow attracting black streaks across the walls. The dust is easy to remove, I use a hover hose with a sock over the end!... yes I did once mange to hover a couple of lose bricks the first time I tried that, but the sock does a nice jog of capturing them before it's too late. The brick streaks seem more of a problem, they wipe away easily but it's very time consuming. I wonder if it's candle smoke or something getting statically attracted to the bricks. It seems fine enough to be smoke particles. Peter
  25. Hi All, I noticed in Singen (de) at the weekend that they have some good deals on some batman sets in Karstadt. Also in Zurich (ch) the large toy shop on bahnhof strasse is selling 7784(large batmobile) sets down from 149chf (92eur) to 79CHF (49eur). I managed to pick one up for only 50CHF (31eur) just because the box had a hole! luckily no missing parts :) Was quite a nice build too although I wouldn't normaly go for that type of set. Cheers Peter
