  1. Interesting! makes sense really, I just hope they don't do this to all bricks though, it looks really ugly. And anyway, LEGO is only for adults I thought :-)
  2. Nice that the new sets have complete parts listing in the back pages :) So without dismantling the model I remember one of the bricks that felt cheaper (and wasn't LEGO branded) was #42951774. I would call it a gold roof tile ridge end. Or part#4294965 which not only doesn't have branding, but the single stud is hollow and mostly air, apart from a small bridge of plastic. Imagine this is a picture of the stud -> [e] Then part #4498052 (which I also think is ugly) has huge injection point dimples on the visible outer surface. But my post about the quality of this set was not really meant to be about one or two bricks, or one or two minor issues, but the general quality feel about the whole set. When there are so many small things that are wrong, then the whole set just feels rubish. For example this year I bought 4886 which feels like one of the best quality sets I've bought for a long time. I guess it's subjective to some degree. Peter
  3. Big thanks for scanning all the pages, it was hard enough flicking past all the duplo pages let alone patiently scanning them, well done! Have a couple of things for the shopping list this weekend now :) Peter
  4. I now have direct experience with quality of one of the new 2006 sets. Oh my goodness, I'm soo disapointed :( Set 8823 The set was selling for 59EUR here in Germany and TRU had a 15% discount and not much stock variety, so thats the only reason I opted for knights kingdom. First the highlight (singular), I've been wanting a skeleton minifig for a long time :) The lows: 1. reaslising many parts of the castle are prefabricated, even when they could have been built from smaller bricks, that always anoys me. It wouldn't be soo bad but the quality of the plastic is soo poor! heavily dimpled from moulding, lighter material, thinner to almost translucent in places, and covered in some parts have a nasty air brush effect for grass on the rocks. 2. even the cute little gold bricks #4295174 feel cheap. 3. the instructions are not that clear even for a mature collector. 4. A broken part!! #4294706 Never had that before, but the handle from the shield wasn't even in the box, so I guess it was factory damaged. 5. A missing part!! 2x1 dark gray. 6. realising that some of the poorer quality bricks wern't even stamped with LEGO. I may as well have bought mega blocks... erm, ok, I'm not that angry ;) 7. skimping on bricks - there are some holes in the castle that you just don't expect to be empty (not blocking any hand access). It feels like they just wanted to make something as tall as possible with the least amount of real bricks :( Well I'm going to write to LEGO about this. Such a shame the direction they are heading. It makes me want to win the lottery and buy out the company. Maybe we should open source the company, how many LEGO fans do you think we could find to buy 10 shares each and restle control from these idiots! </RANT> Peter Oh and don't get me started about color / colour variations!
  5. I saw this catalogue in Toys R Us yesterday here in Frankfurt (Gemany, Europe, Earth...) I was going to take it, but it was on the cashiers desk and very tatty. But I did see it had some release dates for September for remote control train sets that looked quite cool. Such a shame though that you will need 1000 batteries to run the things. So the only purchase was 8823. I wouldn't normally go for Knights Kingom, but they had a 15% discount, yes, I like my discounts :) Anyway it's rubish! I wonder if this is the case of all Knights sets. I'll post some more on the quality thread... btw Do you think now is a good time to point out the difference between Holland and The Netherlands ;) I guess you have to have lived there to worry about that ;) Oh, how I miss Leiden. Peter
  6. Hi All, Just to let you know that we can't process any more beta testers at the moment. The people that have applied will get some more information soon, and hopefully we can accept some more testers soon. Thanks to everyone for thier support and interest thus far. Seems most of you are finding us via this board, so thanks also for that! The 'Quests' part of the game is going really well, although the quest editor is taking some time. Hopefully we will have some big updates to show in the not too distant future! Cheers Peter
  7. Happy Memories, minifig packs! I remember buying a few packs of space minifigs (6 per box) because I cound't afford the bigger sets. Now it seems like they are trying to turn minifigs into the next pokemon. Just look at the way they advertise the names of the minifigs on some of the packs. I would quite like a skelatal minifig, but it seems you have to buy a huge castle to get it. But I'm happy with the sports set I just got, the primary reason was for the minifigs, it includes 12! Set 3420. Currently 30EUR here in DE at Kaufhof (excuse my spelling). The only other way is to buy the silly magnet packs. I got the two batman sets at the weekend (6 minifigs), but now I'm so afraid to put them accitentaly on something magneticaly sensitive. Plus they are glued in places :( Bring back the minifig packs!! Peter
  8. Someone can delete this topic then, I found lots of useful stuff from the previous posts. Thanks! Peter
  9. By color? By thickness? By size? By Rarity? Or just keep them seperated by set number? or some other method?
  10. I went back to buy another one today for a gift, and they have sold out already, so I guess it really was a good bargin! maybe they will discount some more of the football Sports range now that the world cup is ending here in Germany...
  11. I always forget about S@H for some reason. Maybe I'm just old fashined and like to pick up and shake a box in a shop before buying :) Not too hard of course, wouldnt want to hurt the minifigs! Anyway I went back via the city tonight and bought it. Turned out to be 30EUR and quite good fun :)) Peter
  12. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has a good place for checking prices for sets. There's a shop here thats got some discounts running, but i've no idea if they are good value for money or not. eg 3420 is selling for 40EUR down from 56EUR. I'd like to buy a few because of all the minifigs :) Cheers Peter
  13. Hi, Thanks to everyone that has joined the Beta Testing. We had 4 players testing online at once last week, and things are looking quite good. However we plan to limit the beta test to 100 people, mainly because that's all our current server can probably handle. So if you haven't joined already, nows a good time :) So here's a list of new features included in this weeks release. * Pressing 'I' for inventory brings up a list of the items your avatar is carrying. * Two extra panels showing the contents of your avatars left and right hands. * Drag and drop of items between inventory and hands. * Buttons for dropping the contents of your hands. * Items can be grouped inside user defined Bags. * Automatic pickup of Items your Avatar can carry. * The Locate Avatar button should now also select your Avatar. * Bug fix for chat messages originating from wrong player. Since we don't currently have any full time developers, we hope you understand that development progress is quite slow. But we have lots of ideas planned for the game and lots of motivation! Here are just a few of the things you can expect to see in the future. Of course your feedback is always welcome and you can do that by email from the main website. * Forums. * Gallery of the best models. * Animated Avatar * Customization of your Avatar, including accessories you might expect for minifigs. * A complete economy based on trading of bricks, blueprints, magical items, accessories and much more. * Quests - special challenge areas with various rewards upon completion. * A complete magic system based on 7 types of magical brick that can be combined anyway you like. * And a host more features that you would expect in an online RPG. Thanks for your attention and we hope to see you online soon! Kind Regards Peter
  14. Well we made it there and back :)) Quite a long drive and what started as a cool day still got hot in the afternoon. But we survived with lots of water and some ice cream :) Anyway it's a pretty cool place although for shopping bricks I think the shop in Koeln is almost as good... Some great models there though, nice to see some places I recognised. And there is a really cool Allianz football statdium that must have 1000+ minifigs!!! Peter
  15. Thanks for the tips. Maybe those trees have grown a bit since 2003 :) I'll report back if we make the trip :) Cheers Peter
  16. Hi All, We were thinking to drive down from Frankfurt tomorrow, but it's a bit hot in Germany at the moment!!! Does anyone know if the the park is quite sheltered from the sun? Like lots of trees or something? I can't imagine the bricks are in direct sunlight?? But I'd like to spend as long as possible there :) Hopefully there aren't too many football supporters doing the same! :) Cheers Peter
  17. I used to spend what seemed at the time a fortune on LEGO, maybe
  18. Ok, I assume you have Java downloaded and have managed to log in? So there's not much to do at the moment, we are working on new features as quickly as possible. But for now you should be able to move around the 3D world, by clicking on the Map Overview in the top left, and see what others have been doing. Most of the game buttons have tooltips, so if you hover the mouse over them you should get an idea what they do. Click on 'Locate base' to find your personal area. If you then click your home 'base plate', it should show as selected in the small window on the left. Just under there is a button for 'Edit Object' - a popup should appear that allows you to add and remove bricks. Its stack bassed at the moment which means you can only work with the last brick added. There are currently only about a dozen bricks, but that will grow soon. Next we plan to add the ability to pickup and drop bricks with your minifig, and transfer items to other players.. Any problems then just email me :) and don't be afraid to break it, that's what a beta test is :) Have fun! Peter
  19. Hi All, Just to let you know we have been fixing some bugs and adding a few new features to WhiteHexagon. We are still looking for beta testers, so please take a look and offer some feedback. whitehexagon.com You need Java installed but thats explained in the ABOUT page. Thanks Peter
  20. Well it looks like the LDD has improved quite a lot since I last used it. Seems like we have much work to do with the modeller in WhiteHexagon. Maybe we should also support the purchasing of models :) although I think it's nice just to have an online world to show them off in ;) Anyway we made some small updates to the server today and the modeller should be a bit easier to use via keyboard now. Cheers Peter
  21. Hi Prateek, There should be link to download java on our about page, otherwise just go to the Sun site directly: http://www.java.com/en/ Cheers Peter
  22. You can already 'stack' basic bricks, in any design you want! :) The modeling tool is a bit basic at the moment, and we only have a few simple bricks to start with, but you can do quite alot with a few 2x4 bricks :) In future we will of course add more bricks, better UI, customizable avatar (minifig), and later more RPG style features. At the moment I don't want to promise anything, but we have some great ideas to make this into a huge fun game! So sign up and have a look :) Peter
  23. uh oh, I attracted the attention of root admin ;) about the game: It's early days so far and just a few of us working on it, so progress is a bit slow. Basically we are trying to write a LEGO style online RPG. It's a really big task but we have some great ideas for how to be different from some of the other RPG games out there, such as making the basic game Free! and of course having the entire whitehexagon world built out of small bricks :) Currently there isn't much 'play' involved. We are working on getting the modeller better, adding more bricks, and testing the whole infrastructure and architecture of the game engine. Plus we have the website to maintain, which can also be quite time consuming as I'm sure you know. I guess we should also put a wiki or FAQ somewhere to explain some of this a bit better, it's just tough finding the time to do everything. So we just keeping hacking along, one feature at a time. I hope it's okay to post updates here? I thought people might be interested in such a themed game :) Plus we need some patient testers to help us along... Thanks Peter
  24. Update: The modeller has now been added, not quite as fancy as LDD, but I'm busy busy improving things. I've also just added some forums for some feedback... :) whitehexagon.com PS love the bat theme here :) I hope this stays a bit longer than one month!
  25. Hi All, Anyone want to help beta test a LEGO style online game? http://www.whitehexagon.com Thanks Peter
