  1. Interacting with the bar would take one action, Zepher. Also, note that the Vauno can interact with objects/use job traits, they just can't chat with NPCs. Using job traits also costs one action, I should point out. Daske nodded at Skrall as she and Aazy split up to keep an eye on things. Tarvalk had a tankard lifted halfway up to his beard before turning to the ogre hunter, setting down the mug slowly and nodding to Skrall. "Taroksh kon ul ir yregho, Skrall. That's correct. Tarahg is far from Imaestym. It is the heart of Clan Tarokin, but I will readily say it is not the beating heart of Baltarok. That is why we come here to Imaestym for Zardalvohl. It is not the oldest city in the Baltarok, but it is steeped in our blood. Many great things began here, as well as many terrible. This will be one of the former." Tarvalk said with great firmness. "Baltarok's history has been unknowingly intertwined with Heroica's for some time. It is time we turned that bond of battle into something more. I absolutely believe everything I say. You've been living among human politics for too long, to think otherwise," he remarked rather bluntly, yet somehow inoffensively. "The orcs will fight, forever. But for the first time in ages, we now have a future to fight for. We have a place in this world to claim. And it's been a long time coming." Gor snickered at Skrall and Tarvalk. "Heh-heh, yes yes. Fight for-ev-er. Win for-ev-er. Per-haps keep fight out of Bal-tar-rok, yes? Un-Nal-Gov far from here, on south edge, bor-der the wastes. Very harsh. Very hot. Many og-res there, sir og-re, heh-heh." Gor sneered...pleasantly? as he turned to Skrall. "Ahh yes. You know Das-ke. Ve-ry skilled. Ve-ry quick. Must be quick to ride suul-drah-cand. Heh-heh. Gor re-mem-bers. Ve-ry odd re-port from scouts. Drag-gon eggs in Bal-tar-rok a-gain? But there he was. "Last of drag-goons, great glor-ry for Clan Aj-Kahr. Ev-ven when Das-ke is no long-ger among the clan." "Ah yes," King Valentino looks down into his glass of wine. "Miss Calmcacil, was it? I believe we spoke briefly at the bridge." He then lifts his head and turns towards her. "I do recall you as being one of the few trustworthy paladins present at that battle. I never did have the chance to properly thank those of you who stood beside my kingdom and by my son, despite how grave the circumstances were. I did have the....opportunity to speak to some of the others, though." "Yes, but I'm starting to suspect the conflict follows Heroica and not the orcs of Baltarok." He sipped his drink through pursed lips. Though the castle's layout was familiar to him, the atmosphere and company certainly were not. "I trust all of my men present. They've served me faithfully, ever since my return from captivity. That said, they have only served me for a year or so, though I have no doubt in their capabilities and they've given me no reason to mistrust of them. All of them bear the sword of the Red Lizards with pride. " The clan leader of Irlaz, Grishnod, gave Thalion a weary look and grunted. "Yes. Traditional Baltarok cuisine. Ill-suited for the stomachs of foreigners." The orc with the rags wrapped around his eyes sighed softly. "Clan leader, surely the heroes of Heroica-" "Silence Nulkanvy. You are here as my priest, but there are more than enough outsiders to deal with without me having to look over my shoulder as well." Grishnod looked at Thalion. "Are there not others for you to pester? Begone with you." The clan leader turned away from the elf, quaffing a mug of grog with a cough. "I apologize, sir elf. Clan leader Grishnod has been...under much duress as of late. His traditional methods are quickly becoming unpopular as Baltarok changes around us. An ironic twist of fate, truly, as his daughter Bastala, vilified in her brief stint as clan leader in his absence, is now his rival in terms of popularity. I'm also certain his estrangement with his only child adds to that." Nulkanvy quietly ate a few bites of what looked like the flank of an enormous aepyorni. "I can sense a great deal of ether in your veins, sir. May I ask who I'm speaking to, or are you otherwise engaged at the moment?" The feast at the table was a huge variety of mixed orcish and what looked like a few High Kingdoms dishes. Aepyorni meat dominated most of the table, but other varieties were scattered about as well. Countless mugs of different drink had already been thoroughly conquered. Aazy sniffed along most of the orcish feast table and couldn't smell even the slightest trace of poison. "Ah..." The man had a strange metal implant in his head and wore elaborate red clothing, unlike any seen worn by any orc present, save Karstaal who stood beside him. He stuffed a glimmering gem into his pocket. "No. I serve the Order of the Crimson Crown. We are a widespread organization devoted to the preservation of the natural order. And I am their ambassador to Baltarok. We've given a great deal of money to Clan Musalnav, primarily for the reconstruction of Imaestym, as you no doubt saw when you came in." He paused, and bowed his head to Boomingham. "You are of Heroica? I must thank you. Heroicans saved my life once, during the attack on this city by the Four Boulders. There have been a series of incidents between our organizations, but for all the misunderstandings, we've certainly accomplished a lot together, and I would like that relationship to continue in the future, Lord Boomingham." "Alas, I have not visited the bar yet. Believe you me however, it will be a necessity soon enough. All this yelling truly gives me a headache. Not to mention all the strings I had to pull to get Karstaal's latest project greenlit." He motioned towards the heavy, ragged curtains on the wall in front of him and Musalnav's clan leader. "I'm certain you'd like to see it, if you have an opportunity. But I've no doubt one of your stature is busy with other things." Around them, the Vauno all move into a position. A few others in the great hall move around as well. Boomingham, being directly next to Jaret, overheard him and Karstaal talk. "...and speaking of Karstaal's latest project..." "Ah, Jaret! Good to see you found your way here." "Ah. Yes. I'm afraid I've gotten used to weaving through crowds of orcs." The ambassador chuckled. Karstaal laughed. "Haha! Excellent, excellent. I was worried you might miss our grand unveiling. And with Heroica here to witness it as well! Good good good." "With as much work put into it as there was, that's a relief." "Ahh, your mastery of punnery never ceases to amaze, my friend." "I-....oh." Jaret sighs. --A FEAST TO DIE FOR: ROUND TWO--
  2. As long as you don't write a novel or a bullet point list of questions it's fine. Please also note that you have control of Aazy.
  3. After examining the area for a bit, Olmstyr turned to the heroes. "Well, here we are. Looks like most of the guards are outside. We probably only have to worry about the people in the hall." "Indeed. As I said before, there could be multiple assassins here. Likely with at least one in disguise. If that's the case, we cannot consider anyone above suspicion." "Right. Except for us, yeah?" "We need to find who these assassins are and detain them until the end of the feast. Orcs do not usually take captives. The Vauno are the exception; these assassins would be of better use alive, at least at first." "...Right? You didn't answer my question!" "Question people. Argue with them. Look for inconsistencies. Use all your skills and tools to your advantage. We do not have very long." --A FEAST TO DIE FOR-- The heroes have 10 rounds to detain assassins at the Zardalvohl feast. Battle orders are composed as usual. Each round, each hero gets three actions. Interacting with any object, in the environment or in the inventory, costs an action, as does talking with an NPC. You must be adjacent to an object to interact, and within two spaces of an NPC to talk. Diagonal spaces are adjacent to one another. You can move up to three spaces at the cost of an action. Diagonal movements are allowed. You cannot move through NPCs, but you may be able to move them by speaking to them. You cannot move through tables/the bar. Each Vauno gets two actions, but they cannot converse with NPCs. Two PCs/NPCs cannot occupy the same space. At the end of each round, each NPC will also get a single action of their own. Take note of where NPCs move. Red squares represent exits. They can be interacted with like any object. The space I9 leads to W8. The W row represents being on the wall, and you can only move along the wall when on it. To detain an NPC, there must be two heroes/Vauno adjacent to the NPC, and then both must interact with him/her. They can move, with the NPC in tow, as long as he/she is interacted with with their second turn.
  4. "Exactly." "Oh." Olmstyr raised his eyebrows, surprised, and perhaps slightly skeptical, but he made no note of that. "My apologies, Lord Boomingham." "I have no patience for your games. We have actual work to be getting to. The future of Baltarok is at stake here, if you forgot to care." Tra-Serral gave Boomingham a rather fierce glare and tightened the Touch of Malice strapped to her forearm. "Hmm." Olmstyr frowned in thought. "If this is whole thing is just Baltarok getting caught up in assassin politics, I'm going to be quite upset. We don't usually have to deal with them in this corner of Olegaia. I couldn't even guess how they think." "Like killers," answered the Executor in quiet response. Tra-Serral takes the gems with a somewhat suspicious look at Thalion and then puts them away. "Alrighty then!" Daske pushed open the creaky door. Nerwen took the lead, for it was very obvious to everyone where they were going. The building they had arrived in front of, Imaestym palace, dominated the entire city. Lord Boomingham recognized the High Kingdom architecture immediately, and it appeared as though the clan leader, Karstaal, had an interest in turning what was one a run-down old lodge into a castle that looked almost like it was warped straight out of a kingdom. The stage from before was empty, and the hole was patched, so the party worked around to the northern face of the palace. In front of them lay an entire city's worth of orcs. It appeared that even though only those of significance would eat inside the great hall, the rest of the population was not being left out of the facilities. Huge, hand-woven rugs were rolled out all over the place, families gathered into tight knit groups as huge open spits roasted roc, fried wyvern legs, and, above all else, aepyornis steaks over embers that lit up the otherwise rapidly blackening night. "Looks like Zardalvohl is kicking off already. So strange to not be taking part for once. I only hope my boys are staying low in all this." He craned his neck as if to spot them, an impossible task considering the sheer number of orcs present. "The assassins will not care about a handful of young orcs. They want our leaders. And it won't matter. They will be dead before dawn." Olmstyr shrugged his shoulders at her and lead the way into the great hall. The 'hall' was more of a courtyard, in actuality. The wall towered over an open-air dining area, the midnight moon shining overhead. Boomingham was quite pleased to see a fully-stocked bar on one side, manned by an orc scrubbing the counter fiercely. Two huge feasting tables, filled to the brim with delicious-looking meals, dominated the room, but there was still plenty of breathing room for a maid and a handful of guards. On one side of the room, the wall appeared to be concealed by an enormous cover of some sort. "Here we are. And just in time-" "HAH! Oshuule Tarok, King Valentino," the door the heroes just entered from burst open. They were pushed aside by a small contingent of soldiers - Red Lizard soldiers, no less - and a motley crew entered the great hall. King Valentino looked as tense as ever, but raised his eyebrows, impressed at the sheer Kingdom-ness of the interior of the castle. At his side was a chuckling, regally-dressed orc, Karstaal of Clan Musalnav, wiping a tear from his eye. "You tell the best jokes!" "That...was not a joke, Clan Leader Karstaal." Valentino turned, appraising the hall, failing to notice the party behind a wall of his own soldiers. Behind he and Karstaal walked the remainder of the clan leaders of Baltarok, and a few of their guards. "Heh-heh, Red King likes the pal-lace," snickered General Gor of Aj-Kahr to the orc to his left, a wicked blade sheathed at his right. The orc sighed and grumbled his breath. " 'Tis a dark day for Baltarok. Why, on the day of the mourning of King Tarokai, are we inviting the descendants of those who killed him into the city they burned twice," snarled Grishnod of Irlaz. He did not look as remotely pleased as the other three. He motioned for the guard and the advisor walking behind him to get seated. From the back, however, walked an orc whose very presence was enough to put the Red Lizard soldiers on-edge, a thick, ragged fur cloak draped around his neck. "Because today is a day of change. I would have the Kingdoms know it. I would have the whole of the world know it, too. So speak your mind, Grishnod, but know that the Red Lizards are our allies, lest you treat them like the starving hound you've acted as of late." Tarvalk of Clan Tarokin walked right past Grishnod and General Gor. Gor snickered again, quieter, at the interaction between the two, and then went to his seat as well. Tarvalk, on the other hand, ascended the rickety stairs leading up to the wall of the courtyard. Just outside, the party could hear the noises of the thousands of orcs they'd just seen outside. "OROCO! OROGO! HOROVO EI GOROVO! ALL OF YOU THAT CALL YOURSELVES GREENSKINS!" The crowd outside roared. "ON THIS DAY OVER TWO CENTURIES AGO, KING TAROKAI FOUGHT THE BATTLE THAT WILL BE SPOKEN OF A THOUSAND YEARS, AND HE DIED FOR US, THAT CALL OURSELVES HIS KIN! FOR OVER TWO CENTURIES, WE HAVE MOURNED HIS PASSING, AND A MILLION ORCS HAVE SHED OUR TEARS AND OUR BLOOD FOR THE SAVIOR THAT BROKE THE CHAINS OF ALL OUR KIND! BUT THOSE DAYS ARE NO LONGER! TODAY MARKS THE END OF THAT ERA - AN ERA OF SUFFERING, AND SORROW, AND ISOLATION! NO LONGER!" He raised his fist. "TODAY WE TAKE OUR PLACE IN THIS WORLD BACK, AS TAROKAI INTENDED FROM THE MOMENT HE SET OUT TO END OUR OPPRESSION! TODAY, KNOW THAT ALL OF BALTAROK, ALL OF OUR KIND ACROSS ALL OF OLEGAIA, WILL BE UNITED IN FINALLY HONORING THE SACRIFICE HE MADE SO LONG AGO! BALTAROK IS STRONGER THAN EVER, AND OUR ALLIES ARE THE GREATEST WE HAVE EVER KNOWN! THE RED LIZARDS, WHO WERE THE FIRST TO THE FRONT WHEN WE THREATENED THE HIGH KINGDOMS ONCE MORE! THE HEROES OF HEROICA, WHOSE FOUNDERS FOUGHT THE GREATEST BATTLE OF ALL TIME AGAINST KING TAROKAI, AND EMERGED VICTORIOUS! TODAY MARKS THE BEGINNING, OF AN AGE WHERE WE ARE PROUD TO CALL OURSELVES OROCAND, OF AN AGE WHERE WE ARE HONORED, RESPECTED, AND FEARED ACROSS OLEGAIA ONCE MORE! THIS ZARDALVOHL MARKS THE DAY WE CAN TRULY RECLAIM OUR GLORY, IN THE NAME OF TAROKAI!!!" The heroes could swear their ears were about to explode from the roar of a city full of orcs, even inside the great hall. Tarvalk then came down from the wall, to the cheer of all of the orcs present, including Olmstyr. Even Tra-Serral seemed pleased. "Damn! Your pop sure can start a rally," Daske nodded at Tre-Serral, who merely crossed her arms. "Il ait azh alh vihl evn drihn. Now, we should prepare ourselves." All your stats stuff done, obelix. 5. I'm going to say right now as a Fields QM, and I'd also say this if I wasn't at the moment, but yes to everything you just said. You just need to be patient, another quest will pop up eventually.
  6. You mean Endgame's NPCs and PCs.
  7. Just checked and I got the same error. Has anyone on that page changed their stats recently?
  8. Na'im can repeat, I think.
  9. Oh yeah. Possibly. And yes, I was a bit dissappointed when Boomingham and Skrall didn't ask for information on Baltarok...then I realized we had hosted the entire trilogy together and you both know as much as I do.
  10. I used to have a ton of those chrome hilts, and they are my favorite, but as mentioned they get worn out very very quickly. I don't have a single one that's in reasonable condition.
  11. 100%. I love that design a lot. I got the trans-green axe blades and dark green hands from the Lonely Mountain set and immediately knew what I was gonna do with them.
  12. No, Lane was equipped with a piece of gear of his own, but like JimBee said, I dropped the Bomber's Belt during Quest 129.
  13. That's the one, I think. Now I remember: I also gave Lane some kind of Cannoneer artifact when I used him in 114. Hopefully it's just a Minstrel situation, where they get a million gear drops before anyone even gets close to taking up the class.
  14. Well there we go then. Thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping I haven't gone overboard with NPC gear here. I'll PM you with an idea or two. I've actually been thinking about Zylstra lately. What direction? Slanted to the left to deflect arrows? I have no idea what you mean by that.
  15. I've had at least one cannoneer artifact drop and more than a few nice handcannons. All going to waste of course.
  16. I almost completely forgot about that. Is that one also the Wolfgang quest you've been teasing? I remember you asked me about Baltarok in regards to one of them or another. I have some ideas for my next quest, I'd like to squeeze in one more before winter. I just don't know how burned out people are on dragons. Dragoon dragons, anyway.
  17. Good god I nearly lost this entire post when doing stats. Aazy stared at Skrall even as he explained his words, unblinking and perhaps a bit shy. "Huh! Learn something new every day. Seems like nobody here in Baltarok knows about dragons except that in the real old days there were whole clans of dragoons! But like a lot of things they died in the Invasion. And the dragons died off because of the constant Goblonian civil wars and lack of food. I was part of an Aj-Kahr scouting group and while we were hunting I stumbled across a cave that looked like a real old nest, and whaddaya know, there's still an egg lying in there!" "A week or two later they sent me to General Gor, he sent me to Olmstyr, and here I am! Having a dragoon could be a big deal for the Vauno, and the work we do really...works for me. Good to feel like I'm doing something important. Same thing with you and Heroica I guess, yeah?" "In a sense. After the Battle of Augustus Bridge, Tarvalk and the other clan leaders wanted a group to essentially fill the role that Heroica fills for Eubric, within Baltarok. You have various Houses in Eubric, right? But for all their friction, Heroica's authority is...not something they question, as I understand. You solve the problems and disputes that nobody else can, and when heroes proved that here in Baltarok, it was decided a similar group was necessary. People to act outside of the clan structure and solve issues within and without now that we're part of the world at large. So the Vauno were revived, with me as their...spokesperson. And like most all orcs in Baltarok, we do hold to the ways of Tarok, although we're not priests by any means." He paused. "We don't worship Tarok like paladins would worship Ennoc...no orc really does. There are rites and rituals and ancient traditions, but for the most part, all worshipping Tarok really means is that you fight with honor, you understand your role as part of the whole, and everything you do, you do for the glory of your blood, your clan, and for Tarok." "Obviously." Tra-Serral merely looked at the party. "Good! Then perhaps they're not as clever as they think with their code names." Daske laughed. "A whole organization? Do ya think all of them are in on this?" "Hah. Perhaps. Truthfully, I didn't recruit Daske or Tra-Serral, but between the three of us we have the skills we need to keep Baltarok secure, for the most part. But it's just the three of us for now, so I didn't want to take any chances when it comes to the lives of our clan leaders." Olmstyr raised an eyebrow. "Truly? Haldor had said you were once a paladin. If so, then it's surely a sign of great things for the future to have a vindicator of Ennoc and a vindicator of Tarok fighting side by side, Mister Boomingham." The orc bowed his head slightly. Daske opened her mouth to answer, but instead, Tra-Serral briefly turned her head towards Boomingham before looking back at the fire. "Irrelevant. I don't give them the opportunity for it." "We've assumed that much. As I said, five names does not mean five assassins. The question is not whether one of these five is a team, but whether all five of them know of one another." "The five of them likely know of eachother, but are they allied with one another is the real question here. This would be the perfect opportunity for an assassin to strike. It's entirely possible there are multiple parties each hiring one or several assassins, but if we're wrong, and these are five are working under a single banner, we're dealing with someone with a serious interest in killing our clan leaders...and money to match that interest. From what we've discerned, there's been a lot of money changing hands here." "Zardalvohl is much more than just a single party. It is a full day of celebration, with many opportunities for the assassins we must contend with. Zardalvohl begins at midnight, with-" "-the big Zardalvohl feast! The one single party that's PART of the celebration. AND one of the only times you'll see someplace serving real drinks in Baltarok. In the Imaestym palace. Happening like...now." "Correct. It's a safe bet at least one assassin will be there. Possibly several. No Baltarok orc would stoop to such tactics as striking on this day, and at a feast for that matter...but we do have reason to believe the assassins might have access to disguises. If that's the case, this would be the place to use it. All of the clan leaders will be in attendance, as well as guards, servants, as well as King Valentino and his retinue. Any one of them could be disguised as assassins. We're going to have to try and smoke them out at the feast. As Daske said, it's happening shortly, so we'll be off there as soon as you're all ready." "...For the moment, we are at your disposal. So long as you do not fail us." Tra-Serral finally turns away from the fireplace to face the heroes. The Vauno have joined the party! 18. By more do you mean at all?
  19. This is what I meant. Sorry, I didn't realize you were meaning the Counter.
  20. I don't think the verses where Jesus turns into a genocidal dragon are canon anymore.
  21. You know, this does beg the question of why the Guild sells Tonics in the first place.
  22. I doubt this actually affects anything outside Quest 149. It's entirely up to your party.
  23. "You'll have to tell me where you grew up sometime, I hadn't encountered any ogres in my brief voyage to Eubric. In either case, you've nothing to be ashamed for joining a group like Heroica; it's people like you that've made this change possible." Olmstyr bowed his head slightly to Skrall. The old ogre could swear he saw Tra-Serral roll her eyes out of the corner of his own. The ridges on the sides of the dragon's head perked up slightly, clearly very unattuned to being communicated with. <What? Hello? Is someone there?!> The tiny thing looked up at Skrall, then quickly slithered back behind Daske's head, peeking at the great ogre over her helmet. Daske laughed. "Hah! Didn't know anyone but a dragoon could speak Drag...lish? Dragtar? Dragommon? Do you speak to lots of dragons?" She raised her eyebrows, curious. Tra-Serral looked entirely unimpressed with Skrall's gesture while Daske was trying to mimic his bizarre hand motion herself. "Clan Vauno was around since before we started recording history in Baltarok. In the ancient days they were a tribe like any other. But at some point they became...enlightened, I suppose. It was they who originated the legends of Tarok. Their beliefs took root and spread throughout the whole continent despite all the strife. And they were said to hold Tarok's favor, more than any other. They channeled their religious fury and destroyed any who would stand in their way. And they lasted a very long time. In fact, if it weren't for the Invasion, Clan Vauno would certainly be with us still. They were older than even Clan Irlaz. But, well..." Olmstyr shrugged somewhat bittersweetly. "When the orc who'd just led the largest and most successful slave rebellion of all time walked into Baltarok, they were the ones to greet him with open arms. They were the ones who helped him to gather all the clans of Baltarok under one banner. And when they decided upon invasion, and this slave rose to lead them all, it was the Vauno who bestowed him with the name Tarokai." "Picture what a paladin of Baltarok would look like! Except, yaknow, less....stuck-up. And worth a damn at fighting." "Clan Vauno gave up their independence when Tarokai invaded. They did not seek to use their power to their own ends, but instead, they used it in the name of the entire orcish race. They dissolved, and became the Vauno, and whenever you see a tale of how Tarokai fought five kings at once, or how he destroyed a kingdom inside a single week, or slaughtered a hundred paladins to free a handful of slaves, the Vauno were at his side." "And they continued to do so to the very end. When you see the tale of how a hundred heroes came to kill Tarokai, the Vauno were at his side, until they cut those hundred heroes down to six, and were wiped out in the process." "If they'd've been just a bit better, there'd be no Heroica, Tarokai would've lived, and Baltarok would be five times as big as it is now!" explained Daske cheerfully. "Weird to think about, huh?" "Fine." "There are four clans in Baltarok. Irlaz, Aj-Kahr, Tarokin. We stand now in Clan Musalnav's capital, and it is here the heart of Zardalvohl will take place. All the clan leaders will be present, and the lizard king as well." "That would be King Valentino, of the Kingdom of the Red Lizard. They're the kingdom that built the bridge, and the one that...well." "The one Baltarok's getting all buddy-buddy with these days, yeah?" "Right. And the one that's been helping us negotiate for the release of orcish slaves in the rest of the High Kingdoms. Suffice to say he's the first-...er, first current king," he corrected himself, with a nod at Boomingham. "-to set foot in Baltarok in...ever, possibly. And with all the changes to this year's Zardalvohl..." "Things are changing in Baltarok and some people don't like that. They're coming here tonight and we're going to kill them. You're helping." "Basically, yeah! We caught a whiff of a lead, gosh, must've been over a year ago now! Unless you've got green skin, everything you do in Baltarok is getting noticed. So it wasn't hard to investigate." "Which I did-" "Right, then I interrogated a few cronies. That was fun." "And I eliminated each contact we found. If they assassins were planning on having support, then they will be disappointed." "Correct. We suspect all of the assassins are foreigners - with a caveat or two I'll explain in a bit - we have the code names each of them used to deal with their contacts, and we know they're targeting our clan leaders. Tonight." "What we don't know is who hired them, if they're all working together, or, if they are working together, who the heck put 'em together?" "We have five names...but not necessarily five assassins. The Red Death. The Silken Savior. The Brothers Blue. The Gentleman Thief. The Burning Pilgrim. We kill them all and our job is completed. And thusly, your job is completed."
