Atramor walked back into the hall after what felt like an eternity, clothes and weapon worn from use, neglect, and several explosions. Both hair and beard had grown unevenly as another year of life came and went. He took up his usual seat at the end of the bar, ordered a rum, and downed the drink gratefully, McCafferey ruffling her feathers and digging into leftover bits of corn from someone's earlier lunch. He didn't even want to begin thinking about the hurried departure from Strivvi. His turned his eyes to the Quest board only briefly, ignoring what paltry offerings had been posted on it, and returning his attention to his drink. "Need somethin' easy to do for a change..."

You started with a Shovel, Pretzel started with a Pickaxe (and the Magic Shovel). One of each dropped as loot. Pretzel took both and now you have the spare Pickaxe, leaving you each with one of each tool. Also, I forgot to return the Handy Suitcase to Jeaux's inventory.

It's always been this way.

You can only bind one gem of each type to a single weapon. Opposing strengths and weaknesses of each gem cancel out - if you have a Ruby and an Aquamarine gem you'll do only normal damage to fire-type enemies. You can't have Adamantium and Mythril in the same weapon.

Glad to see you guys enjoyed the Quest. The pacing did kind of drag on in the middle, for that I apologize. Just bear in mind that's when I was running sixteen person battles and trying to help finish Baltarok. I also think that's also about when exams came up...I noticed the slowness at some point two or three weeks ago and tried to pick up the pace near the end. It was longer than it needed to be, but I hope not offensively slow. I'm surprised you enjoyed the battles, because I didn't have as nearly as much fun with them as I usually did. For obvious story reasons I couldn't really have a huge range of enemies, save for the Shadowed gnomes, and even then it was pretty straightforward. Still, I'm glad you had fun with them. Sorry if Em and Jeaux didn't contribute much offensively. Both Hybros and Pretzel can deal some really good raw damage, so the enemies had to pretty tough. Also, Posco wasn't supposed to come with you guys at all. But Hybros had the gall to Command him. I figured it would kind of suck if it just did nothing, something I recall coming up from Baltarok, but he was far more effective than I thought. I think I got the NPC balance down in the final fight. The Scar was strong but I don't he came off as outright overpowered, though I may be wrong. I tried to weight things in the favor of the Crimson Crown near the end just so that it'd be easier to see things from their point of view. The Baron naturally would've been pretty wary if the heroes left the shades alive. Take a risk and let the shades live, or end the problem here and now? It was the easier choice by design. Whether it was better or not is a matter of perspective. It can be hard to keep in perspective their ideals when both Hybros and Pretzel have fought them before. I liked how all four heroes interacted with them and the shades. The conflict was obvious, but in the end they did what needed to be done. This Quest is the first in which your choices will be directly affecting whatever (unplanned) finale I come up with. Perhaps you lost Wally's trust but Soryx now knows Heroica gets the job done. Em I was surprised to see Em have as much interaction with Selenrae as he did, and I'm looking forward to what else his character turns out to be later. I enjoy the slow pace to his reveals and his somewhat pessimistic view on things. He could voice his view on tough situations a little more often, but I liked the quiet effectiveness of his actions (grumbling or snorting in response to an NPC's proposition, etc.) too. Hybros I was excited to have Hybros come along. I know he's got a connection to Zylstra and I think him going on this quest showed why - he sees the city as a bit of an analogue to what he thinks his own culture would be like, isolated under the earth. His interactions with Pretzel were pretty awesome and I enjoyed his mistrust of Soryx and speaking with Posco. Pretzel You can't dislike having Pretzel along for your quest. He adds a dynamic to your party that's difficult to get anywhere else. Senile old lunatics are hard to come by in Heroica. As foreseen, his chats with Hybros were great fun to watch, and he genuinely seems to care (a rare occurrence ) for the gnomes, which I found an interesting bit of character. He gets along very well with most of the NPCs. Not so much with his party. Jeaux I can never seem to figure out Jeaux. He can seem a lot like a True Neutral at times but generally drifts towards doing the right thing most of the time. He doesn't seem as concerned with philosophy and being as most self-aware machines probably would. He's actually pretty straightforward, though the same can't be said for his summons and his pet fly. I look forward to learning more about him, but he seems to be an effective leader.

I knew I'd be missing some loot. That's what happens when I try to end the quest right before going to sleep. I got the other stuff joeshmoe divided, but if anything else seems off just let me know. Soryx tilts his head in agreeance, handing over the Cracked Starbeam Dagger. "My thanks. They will come in handy should I run into any similar ethereal creatures." Wally looked back at Pretzel briefly. "I'm fine, thanks," he remarked, before leaving even quicker than before.

"...So the doctor here was responsible for our shades." The Baron looked between the corpse and Wally. "I see...you did what was necessary, heroes. I respect that. More importantly, you completed your mission. And all our citizens are safe? Excellent, excellent!" "...Mister Baron..I'd like to....bury Doc, with, you know...the others. If that's okay. I guess that..I'll be moving back in here. I don't really have anywhere else to go." The Baron nods. "Of course." Wally left the building without so much as another word. Soryx followed. "Thanks again for the rescue, lads, and for that shanty too Hybros. If you're ever in need of a ship just look for the Magpie - I owe ye each a bowl of my Dragonfire Stew, heh." The dwarf left too, and Soryx returned not long after without U'Reeka. The Baron nodded as he came back in, spreading his arms to both him and the heroes. "Your actions here won't be forgotten anytime soon, I assure you. You've brought life back to my fair city, heroes. And for that, I thank you." The Baron motioned to Moke, who handed each hero a pouch of 75 coins, and another to Soryx, who lowered his head in gratitude. "It was a pleasure to have helped you city. And also to have worked with Heroica again," added the wereviper, tilting his head to the party. "If it ever has need of my help again, I will come to its and your aid. It may have seemed a difficult, but inevitable decision in the forge. I am sure, however, that the world is better for it." THE QUEST IS SUCCESSFUL! Venom won't be as effective with a throwing weapon. Now that it stacks dealing two consecutive back row melee hits to an enemy would be more effective than a single throwing weapon attack.
-
The party returned to Eubric, trudging through the night, Soryx in the back and still carrying U'Reeka's body, Wally struggling to look away from it and still obviously quite traumatized by what he'd witnessed. The reached the city, and found the manhole Moke had opened earlier in the day. The party went down into the sewer, and back to the city they had promised to protect. The mushroom-ridden city in the sewers never felt more comfortable to the heroes after their trek through the dark ruin of Nu Mercution. Wally led the way into the Baron's office. The old gnome looked up immediately. "Ah, heroes! And...Wally? Who is this U'Kin? What on Olegaia is this?" What will the party say?

Just seems inconvenient to be completely disarmed for any length of time. Then again, unarmed attacks are a thing now. I personally suspect it's being saved for the third anniversary. Would be a hell of a way to celebrate it.
-
Because instead of attacking every turn he gets to go retrieve his weapon every other round? If a level 1 rogue can't safely attack an enemy from the front row he's picking the wrong target or his QM isn't balancing things well enough. Besides, doing 4 damage instead of 2 from the back row isn't worth the round it takes to go retrieve the weapon. There's recorded evidence of dagger-wielding male human rogues turning out to be complete badasses later on, by the way.
-
You have five of them, they all have an effect of some kind, plus you have backup weapons. It's just not a choice of weapon to start with.
-
I'd advise against the cards. Throwing weapons are a hassle as your primary weapon unless it's got a really good effect.
-
Now I picture Baaffy cuddling an enemy to sleep and then dying immediately after being used.
-
We've been out here for six months with really slow updates. And that's referring to last Monday.

It looks more like an easier way do highly detailed miniatures rather than being a direct competitor to LEGO. I don't know much about model building but I know it's a pretty involved process. These don't have the same level of complexity but still look good.

Pretzel's shovel yet again only scraped against the black stone floors of the interior of Nu Mercution. Senile old lunatic. "I...yeah. He wasn't....I don't know if the Baron would approve, but U'Reeka didn't really have anyone else..." "My thanks, Hybros! Should come in handy if - er, when, we end up getting pulled into whatever ye heroes are investigating another time." Melvin put away the song and laughed heartily. "We did the right thing here, I think." "He wouldn't've let you do it. He had to...follow through with his experiment. He always said to never give up an invention until it was completed..." "Perhaps. For the time being I'm glad Heroica is more reasonable than I expected." She tilted her heads towards each person in turn. "Heroes." Avina then turned, exiting the tunnel, with the Scar's eyes lingering on the party a moment longer before following her out. "...Yeah. Yeah. I need to keep...following." "Go along with the heroes Wally, I'll catch up. I'll make sure all the other citizens get out." Erveka heads back into the depths of the Iron Spire. Soryx gingerly lifts up U'Reeka's body. "We ought to return to Eubric, and go back down to Zylstra from there. For what it's worth heroes, I know you made the right decision. Those things were a threat and had to be eliminated, no matter the cost."
-
Wally was crouched by the dead form of his beloved mentor, in silent mourning. Erveka seemed to be comforting him to the best of her ability. "Indeed. We'll be off now, I think." "Yes. You can use this tunnel to leave. We started digging just off the road to Bric'lin. You can exit through here, then loop back into the gnome city from above. There was nothing left of interest in the room after the heroes had looted their enemies. The forge was considerably cold despite the flames that adorned it while Selenrae was alive. "All I can offer is the gold I have on my person. I maintain few possessions."
-
"Indeed. The Crown respects anyone willing to fall for their cause."
-
They were one-shot weapons in case you needed them to fight the husks. You would've gone stronger, permanent versions if you helped the shades.
-
"Indeed. And our mission is completed. Thank you for your cooperation, heroes..." Avina dug around in her cloak briefly...and pulled out four glowing red vials, handing one to each hero. "...and your trust, however temporary and grudging it may have been." Crimson Haze - (Causes a weapon to deal the poisoned by 7 and cursed effects permanently)
-
I'll keep that in mind. But it wouldn't've had any effect here anyway. Party made their choice.

Round Six of Extermination >Pretzel uses Phoenix Incense - (Everyone revived) Pretzel attacks Doom Shade - Shield: Guardian Angel (Party protected) >The Scar attacks Doom Shade - Critical Hit (105/2 = 53 damage damage) >The Scar attacks Doom Shade - Extra Critical Hit (130/2 = 65 damage) >Soryx attacks Doom Shade - Special Damage: Rejuvenation (Doom Husk destroys itself) >Hyrbros attacks Doom Shade - >Hyrbros attacks Doom Shade >Avina uses Phoenix Essence on U'Reeka - >Melvin attacks Doom Shade >Melvin attacks Doom Shade - >Soryx attacks Doom Shade - Pretzel gets everybody up and summon his angel to oversee the Scar delivering two final blows. The abomination stumbles backwards, in its final form, looking around for some desperate sign of hope in the party. It fails. "VERY...very....well. We will.....depart. There is nothing left for...me. All that I knew is DESTROYED." The bits of ceiling floating in place above them fell. The husk let itself be exposed to the light of the moon emanating from the strange orb above them. Slowly, it melted away,, its form withering into wisps of shadow that dissipated immediately. Soon enough, it was gone. At last, all trace of the shades had been eradicated from the world. Red Assassins are a very organized and devoted force while the representation of Blue Assassins varies.

Sorry, will edit. This is why we refer to enemies by their real names. Selenrae turned into a husk, not a shade.
