no takers? well, you might want to update your description. you _ARE_ missing the admiral's hat and white tri-feather plume. plus i can clearly see bite marks on your lego pieces so they are in no way "very good" condition nor were the replacements "nice ones". at least not to my "very good" or "nice ones" standard. 40 pnds for your "very good", "nice ones" replacement, incomplete and missing the most valuable pieces set is obviously overpriced.

i bot 16 from S@H and i got 2 spartans and 2 skiers in the mix. not bad if you ask me since both are rare and desirable.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion

agreed. for a 800 lb gorilla, he sure looks lightweight. and for a moment b4 we saw the pics, i thought we could finally make a homer simpson mf! that's just too bad. slim sumo and anorexic gorilla... because he's half-man, half-prosthetics? you're right... he's actually more space pirate that cyborg. we don't call captain brickbeard a steampunk cyborg now do we, with the pegleg and hook hand? so why would the space pirate be called a cyborg? afterall, his prosthetics are more hindrances than enhancements. my guess is that mf is a space pirate, not a cyborg. -

lol... gorilla is almost at the bottom of the list. if you aren't trolling (or throwing off others who genuinely want to know which to collect), there are 5 criteria in determining which will be highly sought after. 1: most important criteria is rarity. any mf which is 3 to a box would fit this checklist. 2: unique parts. rarity is important but the parts must also be rare/unique as this means you cannot reproduce it yourself by buying the parts and putting it together. 3: "army building." almost everyone wants multiple of the mf. please keep in mind "army building" doesn't strictly mean collecting the same figure over and over again. it could also mean getting the figure for the parts. the surfer's torso for eg, which can be used as barbarians, hairpiece can be recycled. the key is that you want 10 or more of these. 4: versatility. can the mf or parts be used in almost any theme? 5: desirability. granted, we don't know the composition of a full box nor have we seen the designs yet but we can clearly see how there are better choices: samurai, elf, baseball player are most likely. those that depend on final design include cyborg, sumo, mummy, indian chief, alien. just from the description...i would think S3 will easily trump S2 and possibly S1 too. more army builders, more unique figures, more versatility. again, everything might change when we see the minifigures. if S3 is as expected, it might help with buying in bulk since you can always sell the ones you don't want if indeed they are better than S1 and S2. feeling the bag will work but do you have time to sort out one box or more? No one will be selling unopen bags anymore unless they specify it's random. so expect to buy them opened if you want the exact minifigures. -

hype or no hype, you can't argue that these are way too cheap. take magnet sets for e.g. $15 for 3 = $5 each. battlepacks = $15 for 5 or $3 each. or pick your own minifigure $10 for 3 or $3.33 each for awful selection of parts. or impulse sets at $3.99 each. which is exactly why even when TRU, borders priced it at $2.99 they still sell out quickly. as for those who think US has it for an awesome price, bear in mind it's not much cheaper than EU with the exchange rate at 1.27/28. and unlike the EU, US has limited stock. are you prepared to spend all that gas money to hunt down one? that is assuming you can find one for $1.99, which is by now an imaginary price for all intent and purpose. lego stores are sold out. S@H, well, unless you are buying a whole other bunch of things, you need to pay shipping of $5.95 minimum. TRU sells for $2.99. target has it for $1.99 but only 2 box max each store. and still no where else to be found. i think even after the hype (maybe in 1-2 years time), these things will still sell for at least $5 each.

what are you talking about? what set is this?
-
the real alternative is to cut off the fin and file it down. that way, you can still seal the hole with putty, respray the helmet and it will look good. maybe chromebricks will make some of these. :D better yet, wait for it to become a magnet minifigure and buy it then! it'll come with a trident too!
-
did you change the heads and hairpieces of the originals? i don't recognize quite a few of them.
-
tron's not popular enough, i would think. lego has more chance of introducing gitd parts with the POTC license than tron. i.e. ghostly pirates almost like what playmo did with its own pirates theme recently.
-
that's a fake post (a fake post on the interweb? no way!)... S@H by phone was closed down. besides, target, walmart and TRU sell the set online but sold out very quickly due to scalpers. i wouldn't be surprise if that post was by a scalper. both target and walmart listed this set as "NEW". if it were discontinued, why both retailers would make that mistake. one i can understand, but both? also, target doesn't let you sign up for notification for discontinued set. case in point: green grocer. this set came up briefly on target.com in june, and you can't sign up for notification anymore. seriously, this set should be restocked frequently leading up to thanksgiving. after that, it's anybody's call really. if i were you, i would try to get one between now and nov. ignore the scalpers.

why do you think we have those MF creatures in the atlantis theme? TLC was testing the waters... we'll probably have the same for davy jones and his merry crew, i.e. atlantis/space police style headpiece over regular mf head. or possibly special mf head mold like brick daddy's. in fact, brick daddy's head mold does look oddly similar to davy jones'. it was probably delibrately made shorter than a regular mf's head in order for you to put DJ's hat and other nicknacks on it. cool!! i think many of the sets will be priced extremely high. think of all the new molds needed just to make the main characters. i think we can either expect prices higher than $100 for most sets (just like how SW sets are now trending higher too) or have butchered sets. most likely the former... it's riskier since POTC is a untested theme, but hey... if you want to hit a home runner you gotta be swinging for the fences and not punt every balls. if indeed they butcher the sets and make half-arsed black pearl...then, well at least we have the mfs while they lasted! -

the sad truth is, celebs act dumb to attract more viewers. this in turn set them up as idols to the younger generations. if acting dumb will make you rich and famous, well then, that ain't so bad, ain't it, dolly? therefore setting up a trend where the nation grows dumber and dumber. and everyone strives to be dumber than the next in order to appear on tv. kinda like the movie, idiocracy. dumb and pretty...yup that's the future nation you're staring at! -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

okay, i'll discuss the possibility of a 2 piece headpiece. none! it's simple really. you need enough clearance at the side in order to jam the hat into the hairpiece if that's how it was done. and the trend that TLC follows these days is to use higher tolerance molding which means cruder, not finer clearance. this can be seen clearly from the new space helmet which sits higher than normal therefore cutting off the minifig's mouth if you look at the minifig's face through the visor. hence, the possibility of manufacturing a 2 piece hair/hatpiece which can fit over the other? none! it is also cheaper if they use chinese manufacturers for such a highly detailed piece. chinese standard is looser as well. so it is easier from a manufacturing and pricing point to just make 2 different pieces (one with hat, one without) using chinese factories. the other way to make a 2 piece headpiece using the cruder technology is to make the hairpiece flat with a stud on top. then have the hat piece sit snugly on top. and possibly make a top hairpiece to sit on the hairpiece with a stud. kinda like a toupee. if you have to go through so much trouble and make 3 separate pieces (and molds), you might as well just make 2 separate headpiece and be done with it. the final way is to make the hairpiece in the form of the dwarf's beard, i.e. bald at the crown, and as a neckpiece instead. again, this makes it 3 pieces (toupee, neckpiece and hat) vs 2 pieces. so as you can see, everything points towards 2 different headpiece vs separable headpiece. also making a toupee piece is bad since it's hard to remove (i.e. like a tile piece you need to make grooves to make it easier to remove, hence destroying the aesthetic of the piece). and it's not like you can use the toupee on its own. who wants a bad bowl haircut from the 80s! lastly creating two hairpieces, one with hat on and creating one without meant more potential sales. you can stick one in a $100 set and the other in another $100 set and fools collectors will snap them up with ease because they wanted both versions of cap jack sparrow. take a cue from the spongebob theme. how many spongebob and expressions do we have? and how many versions of luke skywalker do we have by now. so... trust me, there's no way the headpiece is in two pieces. there will be plentiful versions of CJS in this new theme. as for the validity of the new theme? very high. TLC desperately needs another home runner given that the SW licensing is about to end. anyone heard yet if they are renewing? POTC might just be it. who knows... -
that is your definition. just because it lasted 2 years doesn't mean it's any good by any means. here's one very simple conclusion involving just pure money and desirability. see how many EF sets selling on BL for 2x or higher msrp and compare that with other regular lego theme. even when stock is limited (only available from 2-3 sellers), clearing the sets has been difficult. you still regularly find TLC using EF sets for speed-building contests.

exoforce tanked. nuff said. yes, there are fans of anime or oriental influence but let's face it. they aren't exactly the majority target audience that TLC is targeting. well, at least they voted poorly with their money. and TLC heard them very clearly.

that guy has money, i'll give him that but is not very bright. left them in a super fire hazard zone (boiler to the left and a propane tank to the right) and he left them in the basement too without any floor clearance. he's just asking for them to either burn down or the boxes to be soaking wet from basement flooding. hey, sump pump can fail and when it does...nyuk, nyuk...

most oriental themed mfs don't sell well but i think this is the exception if done right. it's very recognizable and has appeal for hoarders! will need proper headgear and armor and a halberd of sort. btw, color should be dark orange or red-brown. it's terracotta after all, not stone or cement. -

how about introducing the angel mf from the keychain to the collectible mf series? nice idea on the welder and tennis player. why not a footballer instead of the football fan? new headgear and reuse the hockey vest from previous failed series... should be as collectible as the cheerleader! brilliant! nice ideas. sherlock holmes wannabe, pilgrim (think of the thanksgiving scene!!! with the indians from series 1), and a barrister! i like the powdered wig! excellent suggestion! i like the tall fluffy hat! not sure if there's a licensing issue here but excellent indeed. very collectible. -
the airbender sets weren't really that well made. for e.g. zuko's armor made him look so fat, he's more like uncle than zuko. and they could have used the princess hairpiece for katara than the ponytail version. only aang is spot on, i think. that's because he's bald. sokka doesn't look like sokka. but yeah i agree, there were possibilities that TLC didn't tap. there were quite a few war machines, the FN tanks, the caterpillar tanks, the war balloons. not to mention the many different architecture like FN palace, air temples, earthern cities, etc. also, there was the army building potential: FN, earth warriors, water tribes, kiyoshi warriors. could have been a hit by all conventional means. but i suspect the reasons were: that it's oriental culture based which is harder for most western markets to consume, low viewer-ship and fan base. a quick look at what arealight produced and sell will show that oriental accessories aren't selling as well as western versions. there just isn't much connection between oriental culture and lego consumers unfortunately. if there is, you would have seen high sales figures from the customizers, which in turn will then drive lego to expand to tap that market. kinda like how BF made cows and pigs and other accessories which then spurred TLC to also make these stuff. TLC does pay attention to how well BF (and others) sell in those lego conventions, brickfest or what-have-you. so yeah, i don't think tlc is bringing back avatar. as you can see, not many people are reading this topic anyway. that should tell you something.
