Basic power functions car chassis
vmln8r replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just built the intermediate chassis, many miles away in New Zealand Thanks for taking the time to do this The steering is great, I was worried about damaging the M motor but as you said on Flickr it only seems to cause battery drain. I'll definitely use this sort of technique in the future, especially as I don't have the commonly used hockey springs. Your building technique is also really impressive and I learnt a lot from it. I just dismantled my failed attempt for the Technic competition (Case Quadtrac Tractor) and I definitely used far too many pieces in an inefficient attempt to reinforce the chassis. Now I'll give it another shot. Thanks again. -
Haha No sales to report, expecting a good sale from Kmart towards the end of the month like last year. Also looking at a couple of Technic sets on TM.

Full remote control, twin XL drive, transmission with drive, neutral and hitch control, LAs for steering and gearbox control, straight six, suspension on all tracks and pendular front axle. The only problem was getting it moving... 8-tooth gears and universal joints meant drive was too sticky for tractor-like progress. Still, I learnt a lot, it got me building in Technic again and I know how to make it work next time round.

[MOC WIP] SportsUtilityVehicle
vmln8r replied to Perterz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice, I'd like to see what body you come up with. The engine is very detailed and lend a nice Model Team look along with the seats. My favourite detail would have to be the suspension going through the fork things (suspension arms?). Very efficient. Is this for the Technic comp? If not you have a few hours... -
Nice! Must be pretty fast with what looks like the RC motor. The lime gives it the TLG touch. I've started on a tracked Tractor for my submission two days ago which still needs a lot of 'work,' by which I mean playing Agree with your last point, despite it being an expected theme. Although I do think the 14th of each month is a week too early. Anyway, back to building...

Great and funny review Svelte I like your Department Store more though, the chocolately colour scheme in particular. Mmm...

Thanks for the excellent review Rufus! This set is before my time, but I still want a Classic Space set badly. The set looks like it was good value, I especially love the look of the control centre itself. The figs look wonderfully nostalgic too.

Oh what a relief. Hopefully I can get 10210 during a 20% off sale. Thanks so much for the great news

Mmm, tempting. There's so much more coming later in the year though, especially SW and Technic.

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
vmln8r replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Excellent job, now you don't even have to wait like the rest of us All of the 2H sets look good (possibly excepting the excavator) and the crane looks like the pick of the bunch. Can't wait! -
Fantastic! Apart from the scale and figs I find the pillar construction very interesting. I also like your little cameo - didn't know you were a Sith!

Mistakes when Building
vmln8r replied to Dennis's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm pretty sure Meccano did this. I've made simple and easily fixable mistakes when rebuilding my older sets which involve many more pieces per step than the new ones. -
Leonardo da Vinci Flyer
vmln8r replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh wow, this is wonderfully awesome. The flowing wing motion, legs, colours and presentation are all fantastic. I'm in awe of this, best of luck -
MOC Red Hawk Rescue Helicopter
vmln8r replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great model, it really does look like a modern, mega-8856. Good luck -
Thanks Christopher Given enough time and money I would certainly like to build a bigger and more realistic version with landing gear, flaps, etc.

Yup, the Landspeeder was on special. I didn't get one because my sister got one a while back, $42 @ Moore Wilsons. I hope there isn't a price jump between now and August, I really like the look of Slave 1. No idea on how much it'll be.

Technic Idea Books
vmln8r replied to CP5670's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for taking the time to do this All four models look unique, and certainly a departure from the current (construction) vehicle theme. I like the plane simulator better than 8485's Helicopter too. I'll have to try the Dinosaur out, the mechanism looks different to the piston-type movement in Lego's own AT-AT. The cable-car looks impressive too as it looks to function with a single motor. -
Thanks for the nice comments guys Andre, I had heard of Stukas but never seen a picture of one. After googling I think it will be do-able, using pieces from 7198. I think it'd be cool to see how many planes can be made from the one set but first I'd like to archive this one by making a 3D model. As soon as I figure that out I'll give it a try, looks like a nice challenge!

Today I went to the Warehouse and Farmers. This is what I can remember: - both the red car and helicopter Creator sets are in the Warehouse. I didn't get either, the car looks under-tyred and the heli has a garish colour scheme. - new Powerminers at Farmers - Landspeeder $40 at Farmers - Tri Fighter and Swamp Speeder (Warehouse) both are very overpriced and light in weight. One was $55 the other $60. I think most kids would be disappointed when they opened those sets up after saving up (a considerable amount) for them Personally, I'm awaiting the Technic pneumatic set and with any luck the Imperial Flagship.

Thanks Tinn-man! Look at the wheels on the CTT, very spindly and not very tank-like. The yellow interior is another negative.
-
Wow, they look wonderful together! Thanks for your reply, and good luck with the move.

Another great creation Ralph. I love your building style which along with the brick-built windscreen give it a real nostalgic classic Lego feel. I don't mean to say it's old-fashioned! Great creative use of parts too. Do you keep your models built? That'd make quite an impressive display.
-
I'd never do that, I've become quite fond of it. Actually a sloping section of the garden had been marked off with string so I placed the plane on a convenient corner. Thanks for the comments both samuraiturtle and er, CallMePie. Your sig is funny!

Thanks for posting the video. The Slave 1 looks so cool! Sorry I can't be more eloquent. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Mercury Cougar 1973
vmln8r replied to Mr Muscle's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yay for studs! Great model. Cougar didn't ring any bells, I looked it up on wiki and it looks spot on. The studs really bring it to life - I think it might look one-dimensional tiled over, and I can imagine this as a classic Model Team set from the 80's.
