[SoNE Ep. XIV] Akiva - An Old Friend
Forresto replied to 8-Bit Ramen's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
When I started out doing this I realized one thing. I'm nowhere near as good a builder as some of the people on here so i'm going to rely on telling a good story. I like your story a bunch although I will echo the other people saying that you may want to tone down real world references a bit. It essentially ruins the reader's immersion but don't worry even the greatest EU stories such as the Thrawn Trilogy had moments of Luke drinking hot chocolate or someone mentioning coffee. I really dig your vignettes, especially the one of the town with a landed Venator. -
[SoNE Episode XIV] Return to Jakku

Really love the Tie Aggressor! I also wish Lego would release an astromech in the same colors as R2-PO. Unfortunately not all rebel cells have the same respect for civilians as does main Alliance Command. -

I really dig the asymmetry of you ship especially the wing, cool design! I also love the compact interior! -
I love the idea of character battle packs that include past minifigures they don't plan on including a main set for a long time or especially if they include characters they otherwise would never include in a mainline set. Cantina Battlepack/Mos Eisely Battlepack Jabba's Palace Battlepack Max Kanata's Castle Battlepack Coruscant Battlepack Jedha Battlepack

Here is why im okay with the lightsaber fight. This is subjective and anecdotal. I was part of a Go team once and we had the honor and privilege to play against a player from Japan who is a real master of the game. All of us, about five, played him at the same time and he swiftly crushed each of us with only our teacher holding out a little longer. When you are outclassed you are outclassed. Not only that but the duel isnt simply about the blades, a lot of the skill involved with this kind of fighting in Star Wars comes down to one's connection to the force. Obi Wan clearly has found oneness, hence him knowing techniques that allow to become a force ghost, with the force whereas Maul has not. At heart Maul was a broken man with only his hatred for Kenobi keeping his already failed engines puttering forward. Of course the highly motivated Obi Wan who had to protect Luke, who was entirely in control of the duel from the begining managed to kill Maul in a few moves.

You know what, something in Twin Suns should've bothered the heck out of me but the interaction is handled so well i'm okay with it. In fact I have to say i'm entirely happy with how the writing team handled this episode, really well done. If anything this episode states something i've been hoping it would for a very long time about its relationship with the OT and certain characters. Not disappointed at all. I won't say much more until tomorrow night when most people will have seen it but I really enjoyed this episode and it was the one I was least looking forward to this season.

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was my jam when I was a kid. We had a joystick and playing a tie fighter was always so much fun. I sucked at the game but ahh that was still a fun game.

[SoNE Episode XIV] Clak'dor - What We Leave Behind
Forresto replied to Forresto's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
And its finished and it doesnt get much happier -
Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka Episode XIV: What We Leave Behind As the years of this destructive conflict drag on seemingly without end the further I feel from the soft sands of home. With each life I take, I step further from the purple skies of my world. For a long time I had Dann, the only family left to care for, but the Empire has even stripped that last vestige of my former life away. All that I have left is the Alliance and a string of half remembered landscapes of vistas I will never again see. 4 ABY: Saber Fleet - Location Classified “Three eyeballs and a squint. That last one was tricky but once we made the pass over the city that squint pilot must’ve known he was toast” “I don’t know how you can joke, intelligence made a big damn mistake. Enemy squadron support was supposed to be nonexistent. I counted twenty-four eyeballs. It’s a miracle we’re alive” “We won Javin didn’t we? Look the Imps want to send their cannon fodder then I say let them do it. More for the meat grinder.” “It feels like we just went through a meat grinder. Shadow, Spectre, and Orange Squadrons wiped out…” “Nothing like Scarif son. Nothing like Scarif.” “Sir? Sir?! You’re Forresto right?” “As far as I am aware.” “You’re a Deshi Kekra” “Yes I am one from the homeworld. I take it you weren’t born on Clak’dor lieutenant…?” “Jolie sir. No sir. I was born on a refugee ship near Triton although my family was always on the move, especially after Tarkin annexed Mayagil Sector as part of the Seswenna. Sir? I was wondering could you tell me, what was home like? My family kept the traditions alive of course, or as best you can on a rust bucket flotilla but they never talked about the planet, guess it’s too painful. I would be honored to hear your wisdom Deshi Kekra Forresto. What happened that was so terrible?” “No son, I’d be honored. There’s far too many of you now out there who have never seen home, and until this war is over, there will be plenty more of you.” "I was raised in Iwkewe Village, a community of five thousand just outside the capital city. You see millennia ago after our people had passed through a long industrial age, the various states of our world agreed measures had to be take to help preserve the natural beauty and balance of Clak'dor's ecosystem. As a result most live in a massive domed metropolises. However in order to preserve tradition and our ancient cultures, for we are amongst the oldest races to develop civilization in the galaxy, millions of small villages were allowed to persist on the outskirts. My parents were important members of the community. My father ran our village's garage and my mother was a doctor. We lived well for a time. The food was delicious, the air clean, and the future looked bright. Until the Clone Wars...My parents were killed during the Republic Invasion when the debris from starship crashed into the village destroying the section of town they lived in. Fourteen others were also lost but compared to other parts of our world we fared far better. Our people are communal so despite the loss, and the pain I still feel from their absence, the village aided us. Helped us survive. In those days just before the end of the Clone Wars I found solace in the company of my brother Dann and my closest, oldest friend Cheekra. Almost every day after work we would all go to a creek that cut through the rainforest not far from town. That's where I was the day things changed, nearly twenty years ago." 12 BBY: Clak'dor - Iwe Province "Cheechra, nothing's biting and my belly's gnawing my insides. Lets signal defeat and return home." "Quiet!" "Cheechra, why are all the birds flying away?" "Shhh! Do you hear that? Somethings coming?" "Oh just a Wheinjurap?" "What is it do-?" "Little did we know...if only..." "GAHHHHHH!" "Lieutenant Orelos! We managed to terminate one of the indigenous beings however the other managed to escape into the brush." "No bother, that thing will simply spread news of Imperial might to the others crawling neath rocks. Report on the progress of my regiment." "The three villages in the surrounding area have been eradicated with few reports of natives escaping the cordons." "Yet some always seem to. Very well, move your men out sergeant we still have several more villages to attend to." "I ran so fast through the bombouri trees back home. The Imperials had not reached my village. I praised all the divines and raised the alarm. Most were able to escape in time but even as Dann and I left, we could hear screams and blaster fire far behind us. "We traveled through ancient tunnels connecting the capital city to the surrounding rainforest, something the Imperials never knew existed and most likely still don't. Once the city bombardments died down we somehow...somehow found transport off planet and through the blockade. I realize now the Empire let survivors escape to relate to others what happens to those who dare to speak against the Emperor. From there Dann and I and others jumped from ship to ship usually with other refugees." "But in these dark times, it seems the number of the displaced increases without end from a seemingly endless pool of worlds most I had never heard of." "The ships became cramped and so Dann and I decided to make planetfall. We bounced around, eventually finding shelter on Fondor a time before the purges took effect and we...and I had to evacuate. Dann never made it off, thanks to our Imperial overlords he has permanent residence." "That's about the gist of it. Just about everywhere on the planet specialized battalions of Imperial troops called Stormtroopers, new to us in those days, sought and wiped out most population centers or scattered the populace into the rainforests to fend off the hostile wildlife. " "Why would anyone do such a thing? Kill civilians and non combatants?" "In recognition of your efficiency in eliminating enemy insurgents and your prowess in leading troops without hesitation deep in hostile terrain, you, Vara Orelos are promoted to the rank of captain with full honors." "We are all looking for a place in this universe Jolie. Some find a sense of place in the power they hold over others and will perform dark deeds to attain such power. Others in a piece of land or a structure. I've found the connections we make with others to be far more important then anything else that is why our people will endure, why this Alliance will be victorious in the end." "There is a saying on Clak'dor, the lines perhaps are drawn in the sand but when the tide washes in we must remember nothing but Clakdor (the land) is forever. All Empires fall Jolie." Behind the Scenes: Episode List:

Moana - lots of really amazing aspects to it but the story was super straight forward and the whole chosen one plot line has run thin for me.
-
Fences - another really great movie from last year.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17 Rumors and Discussion
Forresto replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I just realized this is the series to get if you're a huge fan of Fallout and want to make mocs. Rocket boy - Works as either a Nuka Cola mascot or one of those rockets you find on playgrounds or really anything that involves a rocket. Buck Rodgers -The whole get up screams to be used in a Fallout inspired Moc and the ray gun looks almost exactly like the alien ray gun weapon you can find in every game. Gladiator & Battle Dwarf - Totally Raiders Strongman - While the figure probably will work for another raider, the dumbbell is seen on the pip boy for one of the seven S.P.E.C.I.A.L.'s. The Fast Food jerker -Absolutely 50's figure that works with Fallout's theme and vibe. The Chef - Goes with about anything really. The Surfer - Doesn't go with Fallout but looks totally like it could be some variation of Starfleet uniform.- 1,421 replies

With the reddish brown widow's peak hairpiece that would make an excellent young Tarkin.

Hacksaw Ridge - Incredible movie. Andrew Garfield was robbed at the oscars. Best picture of the year in my opinion.

This is my fundamental problem with the show. They NEEDLESSLY makes the Empire lose. It's like everytime an Arquietens gets blown up from a single salvo from a fighter. That's not necessary. Just show the ship being disabled and save budget from animating an explosion. The reason this sort've thing upsets me is as a writer, i'm in uni so i'm not professional, it frustrates me to no end to see this kind of lazy resolution. I should'nt feel as a viewer I could write something better. I do actually love a lot about the show, I loved this episode til the Gozanti exploded, but its moments like that which reveal the show's underlying weakness, something we have thankfully seen less of due to Thrawn.

Not enough AP singing.

I'm going to be fairly disappointed in the show if Thrawn loses or dies. This season needs to end with an Empire Strikes Back style moment, the protagonists largely escape but the future looks relatively bleak. This is pre Rogue One, the Empire needs to be shown having fangs. Let the Rebels be shattered and scattered and make next season the Ghost crew laying low with the antagonists primarily scum and criminals.

Wasnt it confirmed we were getting Saw Gerrera as a May the 4th figure?
-
I think SNL said it best when the pointed out people are more concerned by a gay side character then the fact the main character is falling in love with a buffalo. As for Ducktales i'm kind've digging the art style a whole bunch.

Excellent capes, I may have to go for a couple myself, they look exceptional. My updated Rebel Officer Corps. Admiral Ackbar and Mon Calamari Officer Tarkin and Romodi The one and only Grand Admiral Thrawn

I hate hate hate exclusives like this if the Highwayman is a Mr. Gold. That may encourage sales by either the obsessed with cash to burn or resellers but this sort've practice is awful for your normal buyer.- 1,421 replies

Where did you see this?
-
I don't know but I sure bet Brad Pitt would love to get in that room. (Inglorious Basterds reference)
-
Antrhopoid - A very compelling film about the assassins who took out one of the most evil human beings in history. Dr Strange - One of my favorite Marvel movies to date. I do think Strange as a character is rather similar to Stark which may be part of what I like about it.

I've got to say watching the episode again I REALLY liked the brief conversation between Zeb and the pilot who is probably Norra Wexly (AKA mom of Snap Wexly who is Poe Dameron's buddy X-Wing pilot in the Force Awakens.) and I wish they had made that scene longer. Essentially to me the bit reinforced the concept that victory has consequences, one I believe should always be true when a conflict is so asymmetrical as the Rebels is against the Empire. Sure they blew up Tarkin's Star Destroyer but I imagine that just like any other oppressive regime in real world history the Imperials took revenge on innocent civilians. For instance I just watched a movie (Anthropoid) about the real historical assassination of the Nazi Reinhard Heydrich, architect of the final solution. After he died from his wounds the Nazis wiped out a whole bunch of Czechoslovakian villages in revenge killing a lot of innocent people who had nothing to do with the assassination attempt. In rebels they talked about the security cordon being tightened throughout the entire Outer Rim. Same thing happened in Prague in real life after the assassination and a lot of people died as a result. I don't mean to trivialize the real life tragedies inflicted by the Nazis but to me seeing Anthropoid and subsequently reading up on the history and then Rebels, it allowed me to appreciate a lot of the sub text in this episode.
