  1. thanks for the feedback guys. I guess my building skills are getting places. Now I need to learn how to take better pics I guess. I tried three lights, but it seems like they were not strong enough. Also I'm still fuddling with artweaver and am not getting anywhere. @HT: When I put the two mocs together I was really surprised myself about how well they looked together. And sod houses are ever so Mitgardian, it's a shame that those stupid Mitgardians will tear them down. @soccerkid: Yeah, I would like to expand this. Two obstacles though: my bricks, my wife @ecclesiastes: We really need Mitgardia to start building again. But somehow a lot of our good builders left the guild. Quite a shame, I already miss the enthusiasm of the first days when 10 new mocs were shelled out per day ... Challange three is in the making, but now I'm faced with making that a small moc or tearing down Valholl. Tough decission to make ... @TJ: I have no idea who let the orcs live in Valholl. Must have been Mittenlander with his laizzes faire policy I suppose!!
  2. cool stuff!! Although I think it looks more Mitgardian than Avalonian. But I guess that that is alright! What are sorroundings going to look like?
  3. Valholl is growing!! discussion
  4. Weel it took a while, now it's done. Thank you guys for all the good advice. so let's go: Here you can see how Valholl evolved over time. The first settlers lived in simple sod huts. Not many of them survive till this day, and they are actually not really nice to live in. Only the poor and some orcs are living in those sod houses these days. The second phase in Mitgardian architecture was the thing hall phase: Mitgardians finally befriended the local dwarves and in return were taught how to build stone houses. They build the thing hall and other stone buildings in a similar manner. Today the middle class and the dwarves live in them. The latest fashinon in Mitgardian architecture was started as Mitgardians became rich by actually dominating trade in the northern regions. Types of these houses are now being build all over town and displace the older houses rather quickly. Let's see what some locals policitcians think about their city these days: "Well Steen, take a look around. This is what happend after Mittenlander took office. Slashing down on gorvernment spending, Valholl lost its well organized police forces and therefore much of its older charme. Now the scum is taking over and in this area here we're now confronted with public drunkeness: orcs that are citizens now and are scaring the women: and the spoiling of our city's fiew parks with public nakedness: I'm not very happy about it and I guess we really have to clean up this part of town. Therefore I'm going to propose a law to the Thing to take away citizenship from all orcs and drive them out of town. Furthermore, we really need to tear town those shabby old sod houses and sell the land to some investors. I really want to see some more of these new nice houses in these parts of town. Let's see what the Jarl and Mittenlander think! Shots of chapter one and two connected: more pics here when public
  5. well soccerkid, you are truly evolving!! Lot's of good stuff to be seen. I especially like your job on the windows. Well done Sir!!
  6. great harbor, I really like all the different angles you gave your buildings. Looking extremely good. And, it's instantly reconizeable as Kaliphlin!
  7. Thanks for all the comments, this really helped a lot. Actually the entire chapter has been done by now, I'm just waiting for a little sun to show up though. So I can finally take pics that do the moc justice. But anyway, here's the house put into it's final position:
  8. @soccerkid: that looks truely good, and yeah, its in real bricks @all others: come on guys, lets get more free builds going, seeing us trailing behind, possibly being passed by Nocturnus actually hurts quite a bit!!!
  9. yeah, Mitgardian freebuilds!! Great one again Ecclesiastes, very nice look but not overly complicated, well photographed and quite an inspirations to go for more smaller mocs. In short: I love it!!! As for freebuilds, my Valholl extension ought to be finished within the next few days!
  10. well, then I'm surprised we did so poorly, as some of us, for example ecclesiates and I, have really tried hard to shell out quite a number of free builds, I actually would say that those weren't really that crappy after all.
  11. Well, I'm a sucker for those almost fotorealistic kinda builds, that's what gets me really excited. I also realized that I like a lot of funny minifig action going on. As for LDD, no offense man, but I simply don't like it as it looks way too artificial, too clean, just not very eciting. I think there were only one or two LDD creations in the History forum that I really felt like commenting on. And if it says LDD in the title I simply don't look at it. Maybe this sounds a little harsh, but at least that's what I honestly think about LDD. And, as has been said before, cool mocs don't have to be as large as MaydayArtist's current venture. There is a lot of cool stuff you can do with a little amount of bricks, and I usually come up with the best ideas, once I run out of bricks and have to start thinking.
  12. So what time frame are we talking about here? And who did the judging, and how? the same procedure as always?
  13. I'd say some dad in California has got to be extremely proud of his daughter these days!!
  14. maybe we should also do something more collaborative. So far we've had a lot of competition. A little more together would do our guild good I'd say. Think, for example, of the old cummunity built castle. The walls were given, the rest was up to the builders. Thus the whole thing had an instantly reconizeable look, yet each moc remained individual. We definetely need more community spirit here!!
  15. Great micro scale build, and it's quite funny how we all come up with something different. I, for instance, am currently adding terrain to my Valholl Moc.
  16. dude, you've been really buisy it seems, good stuff came out of it. The wall is simply great, although a little too clean looking for my taste. Maybe you should include a little more color variation.
  17. so I worked in some of your suggestions, of course it's still under construction front: back:
  18. thanks guys, some great suggestions already,I appriciate this. I'll keep you updated.
  19. So it's been said several times, that GOH is all about improving skills. So here I've got a question. I'm currently working on an extension of my Valholl moc and got stuck with this building. Somehow I'm not satisfied with it (it seems to simple) and was wandering whether I could get the one or the other advise on how to improve this building. I ran out of ideas.
  20. After tearing down Stoneroda (I kept the town hall and the mayor's house for future use) I finally have a few more bricks to enlarge my Valholl Moc. Too bad I can't enter it in the micro scale challenge ...
  21. as far as Valholl goes, I'm enlarging my democracy moc with some cool stuf, so I won't get into the microscale thing. Too bad, but I have exam papers (Abi/A-levels) to correct infront of me, so I guess that this is all that I'll be able to put together in the next weeks.
  22. uh wow, this is creepy and somehow totally 70s! I like it though, nice colors, nice mushrooms!!
  23. Kaliphlin and Democracy? I couldn't possibly picture that!
  24. You fools out there, Eric Grimmson was warning you about this!! Too late now, this new laizzez fair goverment is going to get all of us into deep crap!
  25. Congratulations Mittenlander for winning the election! However, 40% means that you will have to form a coalition government!! And you will furthermore be observed by a fierce opposition that is going to monitor every little step you take!! The elections were great fun guys, next time it'd wish though, that the entries are posted a little earlier so that more people can join in throwing the dirt!
