LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
lifeinplastic replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I am pleased to hear that the collectible minifigures will continue until at least series 8. The thread in the other Eurobricks forum is full of great ideas, of which many I'm sure will come to fruition, seeing as many previous suggestions have already appeared. One of the great thing about the series is the fact that we can obtain accessories and outfits that wouldn't otherwise appear in the main sets. There is also usually something for everyone, whether you like sci-fi, historical sets, sports or fantasy/horror themes. Personally, I'm hoping there will be more musical instruments in future series, and the figures that represent national stereotypes/icons are also great. -

1. Coldstream Guard - although the hat looks a little too bulky, this is a good figure. Buckingham Palace MOC anyone? 2. Inuit - I thought this would appear at some point. Lego obviously have an excess of fishing rods at the moment! Like the British guard, the oriental figures and the Mexican, it's nice having figures relating to other cultures. I can see a Canadian Mountie in future and hopefully an Uncle Sam! Also, some Bavarian figures like an Alpine goatherd, a Swiss milkmaid or one of those very long musical horns! 3. Boxer - I like this figure and hope he will soon have a blue counterpart. 4. Fitness Instructor - as people have pointed out, this is far too much like the pop star, which makes me think it's not the final figure. Could do with a change of hair and a less goofy face (not teeth showing). 5. Gladiator - I think this will be popular based on comments. Cannot see the face very well but probably not a figure I will buy. 6. Mobster - This will also be very popular. I love the violin case! Would be nice to have more figures with actual musical instruments though. 7. Snowboarder - I like variations of previous figures though slightly disappointed this wasn't a female skier (I need more skis!) 8. Dwarf - Would have been far more popular if these had not been previously released, like the elf but a good figure and I'm always after new stubby legs! 9. Zoo Keeper - A good opportunity for another female figure and the monkey is a nice touch. Still hoping for the Lego Safari sets to appear as part of the 'City' line! Will definitely try to find this one. 10. Clown - I'm hoping the bowler hat will be released in black. I like the circus themed figures as I was always envious of the Duplo clowns! Green stubby legs will be handy too. 11. Detective - A pity we cannot fully see the face here but it looks like it will be good as it doesn't have the strange mouth. Will be popular for Victoria MOCs and Steampunk. 12. Axeman - not sure if this is supposed to be a lumberjack but a bit disappointed. was hoping for a chainsaw, checked shirt and hard hat. 13. Cavewoman - definitely Pebbles from the Flintstones! Nice to see the cave people family growing! Good use of the new bone/ 14. Godzilla - a bit of an odd figure but seems to be popular. Not sure I'll try to get it myself unless the face underneath is good. 15. Graduate - The graduate hat is one of the best new moulds in this series, along with the violin case. This would have been a good opportunity to have a female figure with glasses and lipstick but perhaps we'll get another in future. 16. Cleopatra - Surprised the Spalko hair was not used but good to see a historical figure made (the asp suggests it is definitely Cleopatra!). I'd like to see Lincoln and Elvis lookalikes in future series! -

I'm glad the boxer has decent gloves on. Lego did a great job with those! The helmet is a nice touch too but having another matching figure in future with a blue one so they can compete would be cool. The Royal Guard is most welcome as well. I have been hoping for these since they had pictures of them promoting Legoland Windsor being opened in the early 90s though the hat looks slightly too tall. The mini-clown looks odd but I'm hoping the bowler hat gets realeased in black too for an old English city gent in pinstripe suit or a Charlie Chaplin figure! The Cleopatra figure does look a bit like a drag queen - I would have thought the Irina Spalko hair would have been a better bet for the hairpiece. Cavewoman and Sherlock look good but don't really get the Godzilla one. Looking forward to seeing the remaining 7 figures though. Hopefully Lego will start to introduce more muscial instruments and I would imagine Series 5 will have another sports person. I'm hoping for some more everyday City-compatible figs too! -
Minfigures: When is there too much detail?
lifeinplastic replied to mo123567's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What is frustrating is having so many different styles, especially in faces. I like variation so that different minifigures are not all identical (e.g, some female, some with glasses, some with facial hair, etc, some smiling). I really don't like the figures that show teeth and there are those old Racers faces with the crazy expression or scared faces, which I really dislike (also overused in MOCSs). I don't think printing on the back is necessary and I dislike it when people mix and match styles, especially with classic and licensed lines. Also, even Lego releases odd looking figures such as ginger eyebrows with black hair - it looks rubbish. Lego should stick with the current level of style and details we have in City sets now but just give us more variation of figures to choose from but keep them all in the same style (and no teeth showing!). -

I thought somebody would be quick to point out that there were a few 'civilians' in the Minifig Series sets. However, not that many of these are actually 'every day' folk you'd see walking around town and plus you only get one figure at a time, which becomes very expensive, especially as you can't guarantee which one you will get (even using the old barcode trick I still have bought a few I don't want). I'm not knocking some of the decent figures we have got from the series, as the nurse, skateboarder and tennis player are great but I just wish you could buy a bulk pack of unique figs at a reasonable price, which can be mixed and matched into a normal city environment without them having to represent a specific role.

It's Lego not Legos
-
I do like the minifigure sets ever since I received the 6314 'City People' set in 1992! http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6314-1 This was a great way of adding 'civilian' figures to my then very small town, which must have been one of the safest places to live due to the high number of police and firemen! I do like the Minifig Collectible series but don't feel as though Lego will start releasing 'everyday' people. I also get fed up seeing the same figures used again and again in each City set and have always hoped Lego would release a minifig pack containing about 20 different mixed civilian figures exclusive to that set each year. I'm sure these would sell extremely well to both AFOLS and kids wanting a quick population boost to their town. I would certainly buy these, unlike the new City pack, which I feel is not worth the money due to few exclusive parts, no variation in heads, and a ridiculous price tag! If a new pack could not be released each year, I wouldn't mind seeing various packs released based on themes such as the following... Summer City (Paradisa/Holiday style, with accessories like a camera, baseball caps, ice lollies, luggage, diving flippers) Winter City (figs with non-yellow hands to represent gloves, warm-clothing torsos, hoods, skis, a broom to sweep snow, ice skates etc) Medical (to populate hospital sets, patients with ill-looking faces, visitors with flowers, doctors, nurses, surgeons, a grey WHEELCHAIR!) School (some teachers but largely children so lots of stubby legs and uniformed torsos like the generic Hogwarts ones, satchels, a blackboard) Office (lots of business attire, telephones, computer screens, briefcases, water cooler) Farm Pack (not purely minifigs but with many animals to add to a farm - my niece would love this! pigs, goats, chickens, SHEEP!, cows...)

How do you know if you really want a set?
lifeinplastic replied to Iysk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
One way to look at it is if you are no longer a child and are still collecting Lego, it's not something you will now likely grow out of so any Lego you buy you can keep forever! It's not like paying for something which will need replacing or something which you will grow out of or will become unfashionable by next season. Also, the more Lego you have the more possibilities you have to build. As I collect sets for parts, I tend to calculate the Price to 'Parts I Want' ratio in each set and if I feel paying that much per piece is reasonable then I will consider buying it. If the ratio falls below my evaluation then I will feel it isn't money well spent. You should also bear in mind whether you can obtain the parts elsewhere in other sets or sites like Bricklink. I like to budget for how much I should spend and then if I ever receive any 'bonus' additional income above what I usually get then I won't feel guilty about buying Lego with it, e.g. I sometimes offer to work additional hours. As long as you work within your budget then don't worry. As I said before - Lego is for life - how many other things can you spend money on that will be with you forever? -
I loved the original Lego 'Creator' game. The only problem was that it didn't contain old bricks and wasn't updated with new bricks when new ones were released.
-
I disagree as I think for most people the pink will put people off buying the set rather than vice versa. If the sets do have to be pink, i'd rather the pink bricks were interchangeable so that alternative colours can be used. Although this was possible for most of the original Paradisa line, there were those stairs on the villa and lighthouse which weren't available in any decent colour to replace them (white would have been best). New pieces and pieces in different colours are usually always good though buddy! So let's have those stairs in white Lego pleeeeease!
-
Sounds promising but I hope the design team do a better job than the marina set and that any Paradisa comeback is as good as the original sets were. Disappointed they will still be pink though. I think this does alienate a huge part of the Lego market though so hope this will be reconsidered. People will not buy pink sets for boys, hence why I never got any Paradisa sets :-( Hopefully it will recapture the spirit of the original line and include a remake of the best Lego airport - http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10159-1 but perhaps with a coach similar to the Public transport one to transfer holidaymakers to their resort rather than having a second plane. Happy New Year to all members for 2011!
-
I was looking forward to getting a new marina, hoping it would be similar to the 6543 'Sail-n-Fly Marina' posted above or that we'd see something Paradisa-esque but without all the pink bricks. Sadly though I really dislike the 2011 marina and seems a bit of a flashback to the previous days where the 'Lego Island Xtreme Stunts' sets were Lego's best offering to the beach theme, which effectively started my dark ages of not buying so much Lego. It looks like I will be saving my money again this year. This marina looks awful and I can't believe it was approved for release, assuming these pics are final. The bridge stucture looks poorly designed and the set doesn't even seem to have any novel parts with a lack of boats. As somebody above mentioned, the structures seem to be "a few windows and a roof = a building". I hope that this along with last year's equally disappointing 'Family Home' set are not signifying another end to what has in recent years been a new golden era of Lego City. Sorry for such negative feedback but as a paying customer I can only speak as I find and as I believe Lego uses fan sites like Eurobricks to gather information about what their customers think, I feel letting them know how we feel can only be beneficial to them in the long term. I am a huge fan of Lego's own themed sets (non-licensed themes) and hope that a gender neutral Paradisa will appear in the not too distant future. A proper beach theme could combine sets similar to the old beach cafe, villa and playgrounds with other aspects of the City theme, such as the old Divers line and a tropical island airport (think palm trees) to create a new Summer Holiday subtheme. The old 'leisure' sets were my favourite as a kid and I feel deserve a regular showing as much as the usual police/fire.
-
There is still plenty Lego can do with farm. If they can regurgitate the same old police and fire sets continually then there is no reason we could not find more things for the farm line. For a start we've never actually had a farmhouse. The goats and chickens are a welcome addition to the theme though, although they are officially castle sets but fit very nicely. Still waiting for sheep, geese and a non-brick-built rooster though! My sister is having a baby in January so I hope to have a decent sized farmyard for the little one to play with by the time he is old enough for Lego - so keep the farm-based sets coming! p.s. i'd like to have more brown fence pieces first though if you are reading Lego.
-
It would be interesting to see how a pet shop was designed but I really dislike the moulds for some of the 'pets' Lego already has such as the mouse/rat, the cat and Big Beastly Belville Bunny so I hope that there will be some good animals! The 2011 castle chickens and goats look quite good and I like the recent pigs and cows so hopefully some pets can be remade in this style. However, I don't really mind what sort of building we get as I will buy it mainly for parts if they're good, rare and useful. I hope any post office would have the old printed letters 1x2 tiles (not the Harry Potter ones). The set should have no stickers, a decent interior (hopefully there will be living quarters in upstairs rooms so we can get some proper household items made. There should also be some bricks made in new colours to make the set more attractive to buy for rare bricks and make it worth the large amount of money these sets cost (e.g. flowers made in orange or a bicycle in light blue/purple). I'd like something a little different to what we have in usual city sets as the modular buildings are more about the architecture that the playability so don't need to be child-orientated...perhaps... A launderette A doctor's surgery or pharmacy A barber shop/hair salon A pub A florist or a combination of two small neighbouring shops beneath an upstairs apartment Any building should have plenty of minifigs (6+ please), including more females, old people with grey hair and children with short legs. As the collectible minifig series need to be more action themed, I doubt that office workers and everyday civilian wear figures will appear in these sets so it would be good for Lego to create new torsos so that we don't get the same figures we get in other sets. It would also be nice if the hair pieces came in colours which are not already available for the particular piece.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
lifeinplastic replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't think 16 is too many, it allows us to have variety and increases the chances that we'll each get something we want. I would, however, prefer for the series to be available for longer, perhaps even overlap other series. The thing that bothers me is that we don't know which figures we are buying. I wanted quite a few of the series 2 figures but kept getting ones I already had or didn't want, so rather than keep going I stopped buying. I am now an unhappy customer, having spent lots of money on things I don't want. I would be prepared to go out and buy all the figures I like, including ones I only half-like. However, I'm not willing to pay for items I'm not guaranteed to get if I don't like them 100%. -
Gender: Female Occupation/print on torso: University Graduate (gown). Type of headgear: Mortar Board. Type of facial expression: It would be cool to have more variation in female faces so this would hopefully have some glasses (but no goofy mouth and please don't show teeth - i hate those figures!). Color on torso/legs: black Accessory: black cape as graduation gown scroll or a book/bag (not important) Also, seeing as the lifeguard in series 2 was clearly Pamela Anderson, it would be cool to see other famous lookalikes such as Cleopatra, Lincoln, Charlie Chaplin, so for my other choice I'll say Elvis Presley! Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Elvis impersonator Type of headgear: Black hair (with quiff). Type of facial expression: Elvis (maybe wearing sunglasses but again no goofy mouth and please don't show teeth - i hate those figures!). Color on torso/legs: White Elvis Jumpsuit Accessory: Microphone and white cape I REALLY LOVE THE MINIFIGURE SERIES AND HOPE THEY CONTINUE FOR A LONG TIME. I WOULDN'T MIND EACH SERIES OVERLAPPING THOUGH TO ALLOW MORE TIME TO COLLECT THEM ALL! It would be fantastic to see more musical instruments as accessories to form bands or orchestras (tubas, guitars, violins, saxaphones) and the figures representing different cultures are also great. I'm sure the sports will continue and hopefully the theme will continue to repeat previous figures but made slightly different (e.g. another different tennis player, clown, baseball team....) Also, in response to the above post. I like the idea above about the wheelchair (please note the word cripple may appear slightly offensive). Hopefully this could be a moulded piece for a manual wheelchair, a bit like the red cargo trolley and would fit in well with a future hospital/medical theme, which would hopefully not be so emergency-orientated.
-
I was just about to start a similar thread! I really loved the adventurers theme and feel there was a lot of potential for it to continue or to be revamped. Although we now have Pharoah Quest, there doesn't seem much potential for this to expand to other cultures and also it's a bit sci-fi/fantasy orientated with crazy giant robot scorpions clambering all over the sacred pyramids, which puts me off. I may buy some of this line for parts and though I realise the products are geared towards kids I think even as a child I would have preferred the original Adventurers to this. I like the idea of some sort of World Explorers but not sure how it would all link together, especially mixing past with present. Aside from archaeology, I have wanted to see some form of safari line since the release of the 6672 safari jeep and monkey in 1990! They could elaborate the sets by adding trees and plants as well as vehicles for playability and camping stuff. There are existing animals such as the elephant and ostrich already and other cool creatures could be added such as a rhino (nodding head) and a hippo (top half could be split from lower body to make it look like it was wallowing in water). Hopefully we'd get a better gorilla though than the Minifigs Series 3 'man in gorilla suit'. There is a great MOC on Brickshelf I like showing the sort of thing I mean. Please search 'Kilimanjaro' (sorry my computer will not load it at this time) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=kilimanjaro&stype=dfic However, a safari theme would be quite limited to sub-Saharan Africa, which is a shame so perhaps some sort of World Wildlife adventure theme would work, that way other places could be included such as an Outdoors/Rockies adventure with bears and an eagle (reprint of the parrot) or using the Prince of Persia camels for desert scenes! I would like an expansion to the old Outback line too with some kangaroos and the old Divers line could also be revamped! There is a big demand for Zoo sets so maybe this would be a more humane way of giving us animals. However, animal based sets would mean we wouldn't get some world landmarks sets which don't include animals such as a Venetian canals with a proper gondolier (not the Indy one), or Japanese temples, Angkor, Petra and even icons of modern day cities (New York taxis, London buses, tuk tuks)...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I really like this series. I probably won't buy every figure due to money reasons but it's great to see a good mix of themes so there is something for everyone, (historical, space, castle, fantasy, sports...) My favourite figure is the tennis player and I may buy two so they can compete (hopefully another version will be released in future so I don't have two the same!). I like the fact we get a new female with a decent face and hair as well as a useful and unique accessory. I also am pleased that the elf's head can be used as a normal town person as the face is cool but I understand that fantasy fans will be annoyed that the hair cannot be changed to make different elves. I'm not keen on the new caps as they make the old ones seem pretty redundant in comparison. Also I'm disappointed there was no glove for the baseball player (but maybe a future figure from a different team will have one!). The sumo guy is far better than I initially thought and the hair piece and face will be useful to have. Finally, I'm pleased the gorilla is a guy in an outfit rather than a real animal as it looks better that way and I really like the guy's head inside. -

It seems some people don't like the idea of another skateboarder being released. I don't mind as I like the idea that more than one type of each figure becomes available. E.g, a different clown for a better circus act or perhaps a baseball player from an opposing team so they can play against each other (same for cheerleader, tennis player, etc). It would also be cool to see some male/female couterparts for existing figures like a male lifeguard, cowgirl, cavewoman... The Series 2 chief adds to the western theme started with the series 1 native and I'm pretty sure people would like to have other elves. We should, however, bear in mind this may not be the final list, as like last time we thought series 3 was due to include a doctor/pirate/artist. As always, there appears to be a good mix of themes so there is something for everyone, although there are quite a few sports-orientated figures but I'm certainly not complaining! I am sure Series 4 will be just as good as those before so keep these series coming Lego and let's have some more musicians too! There are so many possibilities for new figures still and I'm sure Lego will be aware of this and will keep producing new series as long as they continue to sell. I'm just wondering how possible it would be to have real characters, as the Series 3 gorilla-o-gram made me think of an Elvis Presley impersonator which would be brilliant and news of the mad scientist automatically reminds me of Einstein with crazy hair! The lifeguard in series 2 also clearly resembled Pamela Anderson so I'm hoping there will be future opportunities for iconic figures such as Cleopatra, Abraham Lincoln and Charlie Chaplin. -

Am I correct in saying these won't have barcodes to distinguish between the packets - and has this been confirmed officially? This is a shame and hopefully will not work in the company's favour as I will now be reluctant to spend money on figures I'm not too bothered about whereas before I was happy to if I was guaranteed to get the one I was looking for. Sounds to me like they are thinking it will be financially beneficial for them to do this but I hope it fails. Also, have the series 2 packets been changed so the barcodes are now all the same. i was looking through a box in WH Smith the other day and could not tell them a part - it seemed unlikely the whole box would be the same fig? -
Hi all, Thought I would start a thread about minifig musicians - mainly due to the lack of them. I was disappointed following the release of Lego Rock Band that this was not followed up with any figures although I realise that including a musician with a set would be a difficult task as it doesn't really allow for much action or playability. However, I would have thought the Minifig series would have started including some, and although future series may include minifigs with an instrument, as there are many types of instrument the next release would not include them all at once as they have to cater for other themes too. I know there was the pop singer and there is a trumpet player from the old Western line, plus a wooden recorder/flute from a Potter set. However, other than that we don't have much. I don't think custom instruments look particularly good and it would be nice to see some more included in sets - I guess the ideal solution would be a modular music shop with a variety of instruments for sale. My question to continue the thread is which five musical instrument figs would you most like to see? I'd pick A jazz saxaphone player A rock (electric) guitarist A piano tutor (old lady and piano using 1x2 printed tiles for keys) A brass band tuba player A classical violinist Instead of army builders, people could become orchestra builders!

I'm not sure these are the final models - at least I hope not. The sumo guy looks very plain with no details at all. I can't see this being the final product and I think some others will change too. The gorilla is disappointing. My favourite is the tennis player. -

Thanks for the response Klaus Dieter and dariofol - the fishing guy sounds like a much-wanted civilian figure and I am looking forward to the gorilla! I imagine the pirate will be a pretty specialist model (more elaborate than the recent Pirates line) and I the artist is another good option, which I guess will be a painter. I guess now we just wait for Series 3 pics and the on to guessing the Series 4 figures... (we should have a thread where we each guess 16 figures and the winner is the one with the most correct guesses when the line is announced!)
