Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return - Sewers

"Benji, does that medallion work for other people? If so you may want to consider giving it to one of the less experienced party members." -

(WBD, I'm fairly certain I should have one more ether.) "Well," said Throlar surveying the battlefield, "that was surprisingly easy. Errr, does anyone else want that staff? Or one of those level-mushroom things? Because I'd rather like to have one, they look rather tasty and I haven't really eaten today so..." -

Throlar nods to Pretzel in response and attacks Winged Fungal Flyer C with Verkenner twice. If his target is dead he will attack Rot Golem B with the Unicorn Horn. -

(Flare, Rapid March stacks with Hastened, so you can take a third action this round. Kintobor, your character is Hastened, so you may take an additional action as well.) -

(That would be preferable if you wouldn't mind.) Throlar casts the Scroll of Elemental Aura (Fire) on Skrall. -

"As long as my guardian angel is present we're completely immune to any form of harm. I suggest we use this opportunity to all focus on a single opponent, preferably the fourth druid." Throlar heals Dark Druid D twice with the Shredding Star from the back row. -

"Well, in that case either Skrall or Kiray should target the Fungal Flyers if we don't want to divert Benji's attention from his current targets. I'd recommend Kiray be the one to focus on them as she has the better ranged weapons at the moment, though Skrall should probably target at least one and use his great sword to strike a more grounded target given a second go. That leaves me to deal with both of these golems by myself. As these enemies ignore shields I'd recommend our fairy allies use their healing balm on myself." Throlar changes his provisionary second action to instead attack Rot Golem B with the Unicorn's Horn. -

"The next to last Druid is also an important target at the moment, his ability to call for reinforcements and the fact that he'll be constantly healing his allies makes him a problem that has to be dealt with. Vindsval, you should give Lind the Bifrost Blades as soon as you have a free moment. Benji and Kiray, both of you and myself should focus on the Rot Golems for now as we're the only ones currently capable of dealing ice elemental damage. Well, Vindsval can too but I'd recommend he focuses elsewhere. Lind, you should change the target of your attack to tie down someone else's free hits if us ice wielders are going to be attacking the Rot Golems." Having said that, Throlar attacked Rot Golem A with the Unicorn's Horn from the front row. Given a second action he would also heal Dark Druid D with the Spring Staff. He also used the Scroll of Elemental Aura (Darkness) on Dark Druid A. (WBD, you still have a duplicate listing of the weapons Skrall lent to Kiray in Skrall's stats.) -

(Okay.) "I'm sorry, but what did you say? Decamo... how?" "Well do you have a better plan? Nobody's come up with any other way of getting in." "Yeah, somehow I don't think that'll work. It might just be pessimism but I feel it won't be that easy." "Thanks." "Have you done your best to do good? Have you protected the weak and freed the oppressed? Have you tried to do what's right in spite of the overwhelming odds against you? Are you about to charge into a archdemon's fortress to save a bunch of people you've never met simply because it's the right thing to do? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then you are a hero. Try to remember that." "That's probably similar to what the founders said when they came up with the idea of Heroica, and look where that got us." He sighed. "I'm not sure there's going to be a new Heroica you know. And if there is I won't be a part of it. Sitting around knowing that there's something wrong in the world and having to wait until someone comes to you with money before you can do anything about it irks me. I'd rather go out there and ferret it out myself without having to wait for it to rear it's ugly head and being two steps behind all the time." "Well I am a paladin and I am here. So I suppose that means that whatever power or god I serve is on our side. I hope." -

(WBD, I don't actually have an aquamarine, amethyst, and opal in my inventory. I have them imbued in my weapons and was operating on the assumption that that would still work for the scroll. I didn't make a mistake did I?) "Well, I suggest that our fairy companions hide while the rest of us don disguises, go right up to the gates, and try and get any guards that might be there to open said gates. My idea is that we pretend to be demon worshippers who have come here to worship demons. We could even drop Calamity's name if we think they might recognize it. You remember Calamity don't you?" -

"You know, that reminds me of a song I heard once. I can't quite remember it now but I'm sure it will come back to me at some point." "Yes, I'll take the Ruby and three remedies if you don't mind." "I didn't know any of us had experience dealing with archdemons, it's not something that's been commonly talked about in the hall. At least, not when I'm around." -

"Thank you. By the way, may I borrow some of your tonics? I seem to be running a bit low." "Actually, looking at his equipment he has access to every element, the Etherial Opal is the only one that he'd have any need for." -

(That's a mistake, WBD has accidentally listed several of Pretzel's gems in my inventory. I've informed him of the mistake but apparently he hasn't fixed it yet.) "Pretzel, Kiray, and Lind, all of you have spare gems you cannot use. I suggest that you lend them to either myself or Benji. For reference the elements I currently have are water, ice, and darkness. Pretzel, you specifically have an Etherial Opal that I suggest you give to Benji, while he already has access to ice elemental magic your opal has an ability to make enemies fragile that only he can make use of." -

(WBD, did we gain any experience from solving that puzzle earlier? I noted it in my stats as if I had because that's how you normally do it, but looking back I see you didn't make any mention of it nor did you change what you had written down for our stats. Also, I removed the Infernal Armor and my Weathered Shield so I shouldn't absorb fire and be immune to ice.) "Err, no Pretzel, I can't equip more than three... which is the number I'm wearing right now. Also, that armor is strictly inferior to the Infernal Armor you already lent me and occupies the same space so I think I'll pass. However I believe you have some gems I could use with my Scroll of Elemental Aura." "Thank you." said Throlar accepting the staff. -

(OOC: WBD, I now have a photo for Throlar, you can find it in my stats.) "Karie," said Throlar as the group trudged towards their destination, "I notice you're in possession of a Spring Staff that you are incapable of using that I feel would be better off in my possession if you're willing to part with it. Skrall, you mentioned that you plan to be using your sword rather than your bows for the duration, if that's so you may want to lend Kiray your Mythril Composite Bow and Mythril Hunter's Crossbow. Also, everyone with spare gems, we have no elemental spellcasters in the party, but I am currently in possession of a Scroll of Elemental Aura that allows me to make it so that the target only does damage of one element of my choice for the duration of the battle. Unfortunately it requires me to be in possession of the necessary elemental gem for each element and currently my equipment only allows me access to Ice and Darkness. Now several of you are in possession of spare gems that you have no use for, if you were to give me some I would have more elements at my disposal for when I use this scroll. Alternatively we could give the gems and the scroll to someone with more ether than myself. On that note, Benji, I have a spare Scroll of Frailty as well as a Scroll of Minimizing that requires too much ether for me to use effectively, as a ether user you could make use of them." -

"It happened, that's all I can say. It was probably going to end sooner or later anyway, though I wasn't expecting it to be so... dramatic. I'd just expected Heroica to slowly peter out and die rather than explode." -

"Ah, yes." said Throlar turning to the fey, "On that note, we came here to discover what had happened to one of the founding veterans of Heroica. You see, when the founders returned one of them, the Fey One, wasn't amongst them. That being rather odd we immediately set out to discover what had happened to them. You wouldn't have heard of them by any chance would you?" -

"Okay, just a thought." "See? Everything's fine. For us I mean, you lot have definitely been very badly effected by this change. One thing though, our companion here, Lind, has reported that the sewers of Eubric are being overrun with strange white roots. You don't think that has anything to do with what's going on here do you?" -

"Ah, that's... unpleasant. Dark Druids did you say? There wasn't a man named Savato amongst them by any chance was there?" "Ah, an archdemon. Not good." "Karie, I wouldn't worry about that, we've been breathing normally for a while now and none of us are effected as of yet. I think what's happening has rendered it inert. At least I hope?" he said glancing nervously at the fey before them as if looking for conformation of his statement. "By the way," he said to Karie, "this reminds me, some time ago you told me you were pregnant, how did that work out? All well I hope? I noticed to speaking to Lind about your husband and family earlier and I'm interested in hearing more about them."
