  1. Hhmmm.. I know people are out for a bargain, but that thing had scam written all over it. 200 units? Do people realise how BIG those boxes are? The guy would need a warehouse just for Death Stars. At least ebay scammers are getting a bit wiser, they used to put fine print at the bottom that said "You are bidding on a PICTURE of a death star! Not the actual lego set. 100 quid"
  2. Loving the colour scheme and detailing! Reminds me a lot of the Halo Pillar of Autumn ship. Wish I could have gone down Brick Expo but... Canberra
  3. I love the tone of this review, I'd describe it as... overly formal mild interest peppered with apathy.
  4. I also collect mainly SW, but also moved into Pirates/Naval some years ago. Like Star Wars, there's a great aesthetic element to displaying the ships. City's pretty good too, but I personally didn't get into that theme because I missed that boat when it comes to building sets and they're crazy expensive now.
  5. Love it. Will probably steal your idea with the rear vents for a Terran Viking I have planned.
  6. It's fairly standard. The Blockade Runner, Falcon and Death Star II were like this at Kmart, the ones in the store. Ask them to get one from the back for you and there's no security device. Any large, expensive set will have this. Speaking from experience, the biggest problems are minifig and other blind-packed toys eg the black-packaged Hot Wheels stuff which I'm not sure why they sell. Considering that aisle is always wrecked by people ripping them open.
  7. Love them! Especially the Reptar Costume guy, Woodcutter (Rednecks! Now in minifig form!), I love these minifig collectibles, but they sure add up... Beefeater's probably the weak link here.
  8. I don't particularly care about most boxes since I package sets in ziplock bags with a set number label (allows you to maximise space) but there are certain sets where the boxes are super important, especially the UCS. I did a move with the UCS Falcon and thank god I kept that box to transport it in.
  9. I remember desperately wanting this set the first time I laid eyes on it, I think I was 13? But my parents said no... It's always been the one that got away from me, the Rosebud moment of my childhood. And as ugly and quaint as it looks compared to the newer Falcons, I'd pick one up if I saw it reasonably priced. The wonders of financial independence.
  10. Would anyone be able to give a side-by-side comparison between this and the previous one? I'm racking my brain and honestly can't find any noticeable difference besides the bottom launcher being replaced by flickfire missiles.
  11. Good looking set. Shame I already have the two previous Corellian cruisers. But those Jedi minifigs. Decisions, decisions.
  12. Much more so. Landing gears don't fall off, the 'ring' structure which the panels connect to is much more secured to the base, the turret isn't held by a flimsy peg, the cockpit's tighter, the panels up top are much more durable than the previous one and don't break off at every opportunity. It's not a huge change, but lots of minor ones that add up.
  13. That was my butt ya perv! In all seriousness, I was at Myer Sydney CBD today and picked up a whole bunch of things with that sweet 30% off. They had dozens of everything. Falcons, QAR, Tower Bridge and everything in between. They seemed to have restocked in between when you early birds emptied them.
  14. I'd go with the Imperial Flagship as well. Yes, it costs more. But seeing the two side-by-side, you won't make the mistake of thinking the flagship is the toy. It looks like a million bucks. It really is a beautiful set from Lego (one of their finest) and comes with enough pieces for you to build your own vessels. Plus, I'm not sure it'll ever be cheaper.
  15. Anyone know how often Myer restocks? Thinking about picking up a Falcon but I'm positive the CBD would be cleaned out. Any suggestions other than simply calling beforehand?
  16. Can someone clarify for me something? Are all these sales starting on Thursday (23rd)? Kmart catalogue just talks about the laybuy process, can we pick up and pay for these once the sale goes live?
  17. Likes -The size: is a lot healthier than the sub-Naboo Starfighter size of the previous -The dome section, done very well, large etc Dislikes -Skeletal fuselage section -The 'gap' between the nose and the dome rubs me the wrong way. While I'm sure it's very sturdy, aesthetically looks like it's barely holding together.
  18. The mandible gap still bugs me, but an overall great set. I have the 4504, and still think this is a minor improvement (over an already excellent set), but will def be picking this one up too.
  19. Seems reasonably well-built, the break-off speeders thing was needed. Not a big fan of the minifigs or the vehicle (which was a real blink-and-you'll-miss-it thing) so I'll probably wait for this on discount.
  20. It's Fallenangel. Don't encourage him. Apparently the very medium of chunky plastic blocks is fertile ground for pedantic whining followed by a slew of embedded images (usually of models detailed beyond the scope of Lego).
  21. Digging the new Echo Base set. Pros -No more Snowspeeder! I'm picking up way too many of these things. -2-1B minifig! I was almost about to get the 8096 Palpatine's Shuttle mostly just for this. Red Protocol Droid is a bonus too. Cons -Not modular. I know it's fairly easy to MOC it all together, but if there were easy attachment points for the previous 7749 and 7666 Hoth sets to just clip on to complete the base, would have been better. -Another Hoth Leia/Chewie. Probably would have preferred a General Rieekan or even that pretty gun operator who I had a bizarre boyhood crush on.
  22. Huge fan of this set, will definitely be picking it up, even though Cars was probably my least loved Pixar movie.
  23. Bitching and an all-round sense of entitlement are a big part of the Star Wars AFOL fanbase apparently. Half the fallenangel posts I've seen are nitpicking with some hyperlinked JPG.
  24. This comes up fairly often, so I think it's best to remind everyone NOT to shop at Fishpond. Absolute worst customer service, slow-as-molasses, and writing cheques their stock can't cash... And they don't think twice about simply cancelling orders, jacking up prices etc. This is definitely an interesting option. I'll check out on it (damn Sydney TRUs all out of the way)
