REFERENCE Dusting Lego displays and layouts
the_green_avenger replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's a lot easier to dust a case than to dust in between every last nook and cranny that you'll find in a lego model. -
Nice! Is it very expensive too produce them?

Done! You can find more in DUH INDEX too.

Thats the ship I'd like to do, but ALL that detailing would take a while... Plus I'll need probably another 100 white, and 200 brown peices The model is of the 1680 rebuild of the ship, which is 160 feet long, while the earlier versions are about 120 feet long. However, If I were to do the HMS Sovereign of the seas, I would probably do the 1680 version, and just buy the $30 worth of pieces off BL. P.S. If you made your own ship, would you want it to be on fire, or in all its majesty? If you meant The Genereux, it is about 184 feet (55 meters) long, Which is a bit too long for me... Which narrows it down to either the HMS Beagle, or the HMS Sovereign of the Seas

If you notice in green vs. blue, everyone used pirates as the green coats, and do not necesarily have green coats, just a representation of pirates. Kinda like red represents the British, and Blue, the French, Green would represent pirates, and not necisarily what color coat their wearing...

If I wanted to do a ship from the Battle of Flamborough Head, I'd do the Bonhomme Richard... (which gives me an idea! ) edit: I just realised that it's 152 ft. which is too long for me... (looks like I'll probably be doing the Beagle)

If you had to choose your favorite wooden ship, less than 125 feet long (i'm rather short on pieces) what would it be? I've been wanting to build a replica of a ship for a while, but I'm not sure what ship I should do? Any ideas? P.S. I was thinking of either doing the HMS Beagle or The Généreux possibly even the HMS Sovereign of the Seas though that might be pushing it a bit... Here is a model of it. (very fancy)

Measurement Conversions
the_green_avenger replied to the_green_avenger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Cool! (and I thought 21 feet was long... but now comes an even bigger one! ) That seems like a good idea to keep the smaller things in a bigger scale. But if you have pieces to burn, you could still have everything in the larger scale. Again, personal prefference (or piece count) is involved -

WIP: Superbe, a French 80 gun Ship of the Line
the_green_avenger replied to BrickPerfection's topic in Pirate MOCs
For all your arguments about scale, check out My post on the matter IMO the smoothness of the bow makes it seem almost like its not made of lego. Not sure if that's good or bad, i'm just used to seeing notsosmooth hulls. The rudder looks kinda funny, and I don't think it needs so much intricacy, and might look better in black. But.............. Everything else looks great! It's always tough to imply much detail on such a large ship, but your doing great so far! keep it up! -
(This one is more pirates specific...) ...when you start hating french people because you took the "red" side

yeah, the intrepid. (I didn't realise it was bigger) aren't you helping out a bit? like I (kinda) said earlier, you should stay between a 1:40 and 1:45 scale when building, and use a bigger scale for smaller models (like cars ) and a smaller scale for larger ones (like Ralph pointed out, the HMS Hood) -
I personally really love your design of the bow, simple, yet elegant. The sterncastle is not quite so simple, but very nicely done. Everything else I was going to say has pretty much already been said.

He talked about selling the Prins Willem when he completed it. Though I have never seen any MOC sales over eurobricks.com edit: Look in post #116

WIP Teaser of an American Frigate
the_green_avenger replied to Admiral Bejaune's topic in Pirate MOCs
I'm fine with the name either way (might be nice to have another redcoat ship though). Can't wait to see it done! P.S. You have A LOT of jumperplates. How many do you have? like 1000? -
Measurement Conversions
the_green_avenger replied to the_green_avenger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Your right, though I guess it would be safe to say that you see most models as fairly close to a 1:44 scale. I would agree that interior detailing would require a larger scale, so It all depends on the model being built. But conversions are usually for finding the size of REPLICATIONS of things, so eying it would help, for the purpose of minifigs apearring to be "the right size" P.S. I have seen LegoMonster's hood. It is really, really, really, really, really, really awesome. I find it hard to make a good streamline shape on ships like brigs/frigs. My brain would be pouring out my ears if I attempted something like this. What want to know is how he managed to obtain hundreds of thousands of bricks without breaking the bank... Scale is always arguable. But whats your opinion is yours and whats my opinion is mine, and i'm perfectly fine with that. -
WIP Teaser of an American Frigate
the_green_avenger replied to Admiral Bejaune's topic in Pirate MOCs
Very nice! It really does look a lot like the USS president! Keep up the great work! I L-O-V-E that gold detailing you used on the stern, it really complements the black and white colorscheme. Very accurate too, but i'm not sure if you'd consider this a US or British ship, because the US first built it in 1800, but was captured in 1815 by the british. Still, a great recreation. If you want to make it more accurate, I'd make the sterncastle a tad longer.
