  2. The railway track, in physical bricks, is a single moulded piece of plastic so the rails are always the same colour as the sleepers (the brick parts that connect the rail). LDD carries this into the digital world, so a rail track piece will always be in one colour. A lot of train builders improve the look by adding coloured tiles on top, you can probably find some good ideas for this in the Train Tech forum.

  4. That's the odd thing, it's the only part it (2494 Glass 4x5) can fit in according to BrickLink, so it's useless on it's own. I suppose it's possible they just modelled all the common glass sizes at once since they're a fairly easy shape to make. Either that or just forgot to include the frame.
  5. Having built a lot of sets recently (which I'm slowly getting round to uploading), the one piece that I'd really, really like to see is 2493 Window 1x4x5. It's frustratingly difficult to work around as I've not found a substitute solution that looks even vaguely right and is usable in every place it appears. Annoyingly the glass piece for it is in LDD, mocking me every time I look in the windows section. There are some other 1x4x5 doors I'd quite like too, but I'm happy using alternatives there.
  6. Yeah, as does that white and green building beneath it. Not seen pictures of that one before.
  7. It only affects bricks 'painted' in Universe mode, if you change the colour then insert the brick it works as it should. Presumably there is some information about the colour when a brick is initially inserted that the paint bucket tool is not updating correctly.
  8. Well, a little something to get the ball rolling. And the LXF for anyone who wants it. Happy New Year fellow Eurobrickers.
  9. Raising it by one plate is definitely the way forward. You can probably get away with just using a few 1x1 plates at strategic points to support the rails. Of course you may want to work on building up the surrounding area to make it all look nice, but that's really down to how much you worry about the aesthetics.

  13. Had it been a single reply, I might have been intruiged enough to check it out. As it is, it's blatant advertising for his product via spam, which puts me right off ever even considering it.
  14. I think Front mentioned somewhere that they don't exactly have a cost effective mechanism for doing this for all sets at the moment, so it's something you'll likely only see on large expensive models.
  15. 1554 Silja Line Ferry - Promotional Set LXF File 1581 Silja Line Ferry - Promotional Set LXF File 1656 Viking Line Ferry - Promotional Set LXF File All three just missing decorations on the bricks.
  16. Some seasonal entries... 1555 - Santa Claus - Theme: Seasonal LXF File 1625 - Snowman - Theme: Seasonal LXF File 1626 - Angel - Theme: Seasonal LXF File 1627 - Santa - Theme: Seasonal LXF File Just the decorations missing.
  17. Life is too short to worry about it. I don't make any effort to hide it and most of my friends think it's cool anyway. Some people give odd looks (like when large orders get delivered to work ) but nothing more than that. To be honest if the worst thing someone can find about me is that I like Lego, I reckon I'm doing alright.
  18. 8660 - Arctic Rescue Unit - Theme: Technic (Arctic Action) LXF File Substituted wheels and many of the old technic joints/liftarms. Steering assembly is quite heavily modded to compensate for the lack of old style parts.
  19. I do actually wonder if that might have been an influencing factor in this change. AFOLs have long felt there were a surplus of curves in circulation and complained about having to pay for more in packs of straights. TLG may well have decided that kids won't mind just using the flex track and AFOLs are more likely to buy curves cheaply on Bricklink if they want them anyway.
  20. I think I'd definitely agree on the colours, specifically the introduction of more 'earthy' colours like tan instead of purely primary colours. What I'm surprised I haven't seen mentioned, but what I'd consider probably one of the most pivotal moments, was the introduction of the distinction between illegal and legal (or 'in system', in TLG terms) building techniques. It changed a fair bit of the way Lego was built and sold, bringing with it less complex instructions and, sadly, less alternative images.
  21. 8680 - Arctic Rescue Base - Theme: Technic (Arctic Action) LXF File Usual modifications for old style technic joints and visual substitutes for the pneumatic pieces and figures. Had to use slightly smaller windows as the 1x4x5 ones aren't in LDD, though I'm not entirely happy with the visual result as it spoils the aesthetic somewhat. There also should be an 8L axle at the back of the gyrocopter joining the two sets of wheels (2x 2L were used instead). It doesn't fit but I'm not near to my bricks at the moment to check if this was an illegal technique or an odd bounding bug. When I get chance, I'll check and see. 8620 - Snow Scooter - Theme: Technic (Arctic Action) LXF File Mostly included for completeness as rather too many of the old parts are needed to do it justice since the newer versions aren't quite compatible enough.
  22. Well I'm slowly making my way through the Artic Action technic line, but I've also got 8855 Prop Plane about 90% done. It has to be said that LDD4 is a vast improvement for doing technic models, although still a tad frustrating at times though that's mostly down to lack of older parts.
  23. 8640 Polar Copter - Theme: Technic (Arctic Action) LDD4 LXF File Substitutions are mostly just changing pieces for the non-toothed connectors to their modern counterparts. And I had to get creative for the technic figure, his seat and his skis. And here's the B model too. LXF File
  24. I got Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder from my brother, as he's the only one who doesn't think it's daft buying a grown man kids toys. I, however, have rectified this lack of Lego with a trip to S@H, so there will be plenty of building fun for the new year. Little bit naughty of me, since I still haven't put Tower Bridge together yet, but sometimes you have to treat yourself and a few of the new sets (especially Diagon Alley) were far too tempting to ignore.
  25. Picking up a technic set or two is probably the best place to get started. If you can get your hands on the 8265 Front Loader, I'd recommend it since it comes with masses of gears.
