[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The numbers at the back of the instructions are Element IDs, which refer to a specific piece in a specific colour. The numbers used in the search (and are mostly identical on Bricklink) are the Design IDs, which refer to the part regardless of colour. -
That's the wrong preferences file. The easiest way to get to the right one is to type %appdata% into the Start menu search box (or an Explorer window address bar). That will open an Explorer window to your local preferences, from there open LEGO Company, then Lego Digital Designer. In there you'll find the preferences file you need to edit. Doing it this way works on all versions of Windows and doesn't require you to mess about with hidden folder settings either.

Well after 2006 pneumatics seemed to have disappeared from the mainstream (the Dacta pack not really counting) and during that time the new Linear Actuators were introduced and used in many models that previously would probably have been pneumatic. So it's easy to see why people were inclined to think they'd been phased out. Really the release of 8049 last year was evidence that this wasn't the case, though many saw that as quite a disappointing model. Hence the excitement over the Unimog, a big, exciting looking set with pneumatics for the first time in 5 years.

[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ah, must've missed that. Here's another for you, the 30374 light sword blade won't fit into the technic pin bit of 43122 Rotor Blades. This is used on the 7784 UCS Batmobile model. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I found a bug in piece 54091 Bow Bottow 8x8x2, it appears the inside isn't quite low enough so that a brick built structure which touches the inner base is ever so slightly too high, sometimes leading to build errors later on. To demonstrate this I've made an LXF (below) which contains a similar build at either end, except one has a blue 1x4 brick on the inside. You can see in the right hand side part of the image that this leaves a fine gap that shouldn't normally be present. Sample LXF This bug has caused build issues with set 7683, 7734 and 7738. -
[KEY TOPIC] Wanted bricks in LDD
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, it's in the technic bricks section. -
It's in the steering wheel category, fairly early on. Can be difficult to spot though, because it looks a bit like a 2x2 plate. You can always use the part search to find it (part no. 74340)

7894 Airport - Theme: City LXF File 42608 is not in LDD, so the rear undercarriage of the plane isn't attached. Similarly, 2991 isn't present so the windows on the air traffic control tower are held in place by hinged plates instead.- 5,046 replies

The complex gearbox mechanism in 8043 means you get plenty of really useful parts for building gear mechanisms, which the mobile crane is not quite so good at. And there are plenty of linear actuators too which can be fun, as well as essential for comparison when you read all the 'LA vs Pneumatics' discussion in the Technic forums! Speaking of which the 8049 Log Loader is a possibility, the main model is not so good (although the B model is better), but it is the only Pneumatics set available at the moment and they're always fun to play with. Although holding off for the forthcoming Unimog model may be a better option.

I grew up saying 'a box full of LEGO', so anything else just sounds weird. LEGOs, in particular, sounds utterly bizarre.

[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You can't easily do that from a script or an automated program, at least not in a controlled fashion. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
On that note, the ability to autogenerate a screenshot by passing command line switches to LDD would be a pretty handy feature. -
I'm not so sure. In the UK at least I've known people doing "mystery shopper" type jobs in various pubs and clubs and one of the explicit tests was that bar staff would inform you they only had Pepsi if you asked for a Coke (and similarly with things like Red Bull if they had a rival brand). I think you can be in legally iffy waters if you sell a different product when asked for a Coke. Cola, on the other hand, is a generic term so in that case it doesn't matter.

Continuing the running theme of slighty wrong greens in the Log Cabin set models, those 8x16 and 16x16 'baseplates' should actually be 37 Bright Green rather than the usual Dark Green. There are actually a total of 4 different shades of green used in that set (admittedly that's hard to tell from the instructions alone).- 5,046 replies

Question regarding LEGO CS and proof of purchase
AndyC replied to BearHeart's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sometimes they ask for proof of purchase, sometimes not and sometimes they require the defective piece to be returned. I don't think you'll find a hard and fast answer to that question. -

The problem with that, to take TLG's point of view for a moment, is that I suspect retailers would be reluctant to stock that many different variations of track expansion packages. Especially the seperate flex and curve packs which would seem to be competing with each other. If the retailers won't stock it, then it'll only be available from Lego stores or S@H, in which case it might just be easier to include the various pieces in the PaB selection and be done with it.

Diagon Alley certainly has lots of interesting and useful pieces, so definitely worth considering. As are the big sets like Taj Mahal and Tower Bridge (all those tan cheeses! ) which have lots of cool parts and work out pretty well from a cost per piece approach too.
