Yeah, that genuinely bothers me. Why would anyone do that? Why not just go the whole hog, buy your kids all the popular toys then insist they keep them all sealed in the box never to be played with? They'll be worth so much more that way....

You can use the excellent LDDManager to generate a Bricklink wanted list and use that to order the parts you need. -

We’re a few “Oh man”s away from a box full of random Legos. And nobody wants to play with that. Yes. Yes, they do. In fact, that's when the real fun begins. If you're going to give your kid Lego (and you should) then you should encourage them to play with it. And that doesn't have to mean just building the sets to instructions. Let them throw it all together and build whatever their imagination comes up with. And when they break it up, let them do it all over again.

Pieces were left to the side and a purple 2x6 plate substituted to hold the helicopter together. Also the front wheel assembly and winch arm won't attach.- 5,046 replies

But would you really buy a pack of curves at full price from TLG when there are so many you can get on Bricklink for next to nothing? I could understand the concern if TLG had stopped producing curves, but their appearance in the current train sets suggests that isn't the case. I just think we're seeing the effects of a surplus of curves currently available, rather than some sort of grand conspiracy to replace them with flex (after all TLG could just have replaced all the track with flex if that's what they wanted)

[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Here's a (I think) new one. Part number 2464, Facet Brick, Bottom 3x3x2 has a couple of quirks. Firstly some of the inside 'tubes' stretch up too far - see leftmost two images, first from Bricklink, second as in LDD. Secondly the bottom of the pieces seems to be slightly out, you can arrange them on a 2x2 plate (see third image), but if you try to put anything bigger there it won't fit. Set 4537 is an example of the fact this should work. -
2 Questions regarding LDD
AndyC replied to OneSnowTrooper's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
1) Hold down SHIFT while dragging with the right button and it'll pan the model for you. 2) You can't put things directly on tiles, because LDD doesn't see it as a connection. Thw trick is to temporarily swap the tile for a plate, position the door, then delete the plate and put a tile back in. It seems a little wierd at first, but you soon get used to the situations where you need to put in place a temporary frame to place pieces just how you'd like. -

[KEY TOPIC] Wanted bricks in LDD
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Agreed on the 16 tooth gear, it's a very minor visual change - the part is pretty much totally interchangable with the existing 16 tooth gear. The differential (62821) is probably a much more desirable part. -
Great review of an obviously underappreciated set and theme. I love the Creator sets and always build all the models to see what they're like. However this one and 5893 Offroad Power are still in their main configuration several months later. I just can't bring myself to take them apart to try the alternate builds. I may just have to get another of each instead! The theme just keeps getting better and better and is great value for money in terms of parts too.

Not my pets, but over christmas my parents dog did attempt to eat R2D2. Luckily he doesn't taste so good! Thankfully I also have plenty of Artoos, so the chew marks on that one aren't too big a loss.

AndyC replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As requested by Murdoch17 10217 Diagon Alley - Theme: Harry Potter LXF File A few collision issues so I've left parts by the side (hard to tell if it's an illegal build or just the wonky angles it's built at). Not 100% sure on some of the colours as the PDF instructions are difficult to distinguish, I'll check it when mine actually arrives. Minifigs are all substitutes.- 5,046 replies

LDD doesn't start
AndyC replied to Commander_Rob's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It happens from time to time that a driver introduces a weird bug not previously present, if you have to roll back drivers I'd try getting the last couple of releases rather than the oldest ones you can find though. It might be worht contacting ATi support and indicating that the problem seems to arise with more recent drivers, they may well be able to issue an update that resolves it. -

Colors on Universe
AndyC replied to Jelle Ruben's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
In Universe mode the 'Color Filter' works slightly differently. It just chooses what colour all the bricks in the left hand pane will be, which is the default colour when you insert them. Since you can repaint any brick in any colour, there would be no point showing every combination in the brick palette the way it does in DbM mode. That means you can't turn off the 'filter' because it isn't really acting like a filter at all.
