As lovely as the UCS Falcon is, I'd have to go for the 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle. The Empire just had much cooler ships than the rebels.
-
It's definitely worth it, they're beautiful models. Good luck trying to stop after just one though!

You'll probably only notice on longer trains or inclined track, those things that start to cause issues for the RC motor. Or just general overall runtime on a single set of batteries, as the PF train motor is supposedly more efficient.

tinypic or imageshack best extension for uploaded snapshots
AndyC replied to zillah's topic in Forum Information and Help
jpg is best for real photographs, as that's what it is optimised for. png is best for images from digital lego apps like LDD and MLCad, as it will compress better and not blur smooth edges. -
It seems to be something to do with the HTML that gets served to IE, if you click the 'compatability mode' button (it's at the end of the address bar, between search and refresh) then the page renders in IE8 mode and all works as before.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
AndyC replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's not the greatest book I've ever read, but it's a reasonably enjoyable read. Worth it if you can find it cheaply or in a library. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
AndyC replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've read the book, but I don't really see how you could adapt it to PotC without heavily changing a lot of it. I think they've bought the rights mostly so they can use the general theme of the fountain of youth and title without legal issues. I can't see there being much correlation between the two beyond that. -
Well, it took a bit of fiddling in LDD to work out the sizing, but I kinda liked the end result. It's just a basic metal shipping container, although it can't actually contain much as the innards are full of supporting structure! The 'door handles' do stick out a bit, but it's indented at the other end to allow containers to be placed next to each other.

I actually quite like them. Except Chewie's head, which looks a bit odd. The other two have that classic miniland look, it's a bit old school but still quite appealing. I'm not about to pay silly money for them though.

Ah, it's a Lego Club thing. I thought it probably was official coming from you, but couldn't place where it'd have come from. Cheers.- 5,046 replies

@ADHO15 Is that an official variation for the 7931 T-6 Jedi Shuttle? I can't see it in the instructions at lego.com and I wasn't aware TLG provided alternate builds for the Star Wars sets.- 5,046 replies

8049+power functions
AndyC replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8049 includes instructions and some extra parts for a motorized compressor. -
S@H is probably just trying to sell off the last of the stock, you sometimes see old sets disappear and then briefly reappear near end of life.
-
You could always try the other way round - bulk up the Emerald Night to fit better to an 8 wide layout. Yours is a great. little engine, might have a go at building it myself.

The one Americans do that they think sounds English, I think. Loving Praiter's last one, simple but very funny.

If that were true, I'd complain less. On a 4:3 screen you'll just see the black bars at top and bottom, because the laserdisc version was always intended to give the widescreen experience on a 4:3 screen. On a widescreen display that isn't zooming you just get a smaller picture in the middle of the screen. Now, if your display is set to zoom (or just does it automatically) you're seeing something upscaled from a resolution similar to a high quality VHS player, which leads to a less-than-DVD quality result. It's a cheap job and fans of the films as they were frankly deserved better, especially given that most fans have now paid several times over for the films. It wouldn't have been that hard for Lucas to just put the widescreen remastered versions (from the final VHS release before the S.E.) through a proper transfer to DVD and we'd have all got what we've wanted all along.

AFAIK they've never actually released a decent version of the originals on DVD, only the '93 Laserdisc rips on the bonus discs of the not-quite-as-bad-as-special-edition Limited Edition DVD releases. They suffer from poor sound and being 2.35:1 unnecessarily crammed into a 4:3 picture format, so you get letterboxing at sides as well as top and bottom. It does at least allow you to watch them as they once were, but it's barely better than digging out a VHS copy.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
AndyC replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Having played both recently, it's basically the same. If you press the 'attack/defend' button then it'll deflect laser bolts that are about to hit you. Striking it at just the right time will send the bolt back to hit whomever shot you rather than merely deflecting it. At least that's for the 360 version, no idea about on the Wii, which was always a bit different. The force push attack seems to have been tweaked, wheras in the old ones you could force push weaker enemies like battle droids and smash them into the wall it'll only push them back a little bit now. If you hold the force button for a fraction of a second longer, however, it'll pick them up and then throw them which does smash them. It all feels a bit clumsy. Played the other level now, where you fly the JSF, it's a bit of an improvement over vehicle levels in the other Lego games but I'm still not convinced that they actually work all that well. -
Indeed. Although I'd be happy just to get a DVD release of the originals in their original version. And I don't count the cruddy quality Laserdisc rips we were palmed off with as 'extras' on the DVDs from a few years back. You can almost hear Lucas saying "See, these shoddy conversions prove I was right to CGI all over your favourite films" as you watch them....

Not sure what you saw on the comparison site, but to be absolutely clear - the PF Medium Motor is different to the PF Train motor, however in this case it's a mistake on the Lego site since both 7938 and 7939 come with the PF Train Motor.

One of these or these, perhaps?
