  1. or the blue was supposed to be sky. skys are blue, and if the piece is really not there as a visual enhancer, then its better off blending with the background... which i guess is presumably sky. - BrickMiner
  2. hey that looks good !!! i like the background image *y* did you take out the color on purpose ??? so that the color of the MOC stood out more ??? it was really effective in any case 8-
  3. ok, here is an example of what i think it is... LEGO seemed to use a "different" color piece on purpose, when the piece fills the purpose of function. in sheriff's lock-up 6755, the spring unit/mechanism that blows off the jail door uses a red plate. well like blue with the ninja set, red appears no where else in the structure. odd choice there too *wacko* - BrickMiner
  4. though i wont be buying any of these sets... i must comment that these are specacular !!! they have a great 1990's feel to them. in concept and visual appeal. this is definietly a step in the right direction for LEGO... man, after seeing exo-force, knights kingdom, and others... i had lost faith in LEGO. but batman, 10176, and aquaraiders have really turned that opinion around. i never thought i would say this, but maybe we could see a pirate-ish or cc-ish line in the future. im actually starting to like the current LEGO company !!! cool. - BrickMiner
  5. i think it is so that you can pose the ninja in an "attack" stance. like he jumping out from behind the rock. its more so you can "sets up" a scene (like in a diaroma) rather than play with the set. though, blue is a weird choice for the color. however, i seem to recall some other odd choice pieces in sets, where there purpose is "fuction" (like in this set) not "to look good". *y* great topic, by the way. i love discussion like this *y* - BrickMiner
  6. i love the adventurers one... all those 5978 raised baseplates look really good next to each other !!! and as brickster said, that MOC temple is great. however, im not too fond of the western one... doesn't look very, um,... western. maybe its just the shot. im curious, are these the next two themes you would be interested in collecting, phes ??? or do others come before these ???- BrickMiner
  7. ya, this one is my favorite yet... the color scheme is right on *y* i do think the first floor clashes a little with the upper floors. it seems very detailed at the bottom, and then above that, we just have white walls. i would suggest adding more detail to the upper levels to even it out. as opposed to decreasing the detail on the lower level. dang you build fast 8-
  8. brickster, you might have also missed Grayner's great adventurers MOCs. if you haven't seen it, its worth checking out !!! he's created his own line called Johnny Thunder in the Land of the Castles. its an interesting blend of adventurers, pirates, and CC !!! - BrickMiner
  9. what ??? you don't trust my "deals" >:-) :-P - BrickMiner
  10. i'll talk ninja with ya,... but we have to go back to WW sometime. deal ??? ;-) :-D :-D :-D
  11. yes, but when you say the theme didn't sell well in a thread that is discussing the quality of the theme, it makes it sound like you think there is a link ;-)that is what i was trying to say here... i hope if came out right :-$ - BrickMiner
  12. i agree... and also think the sand-green looks funny with the green baseplate.i really liked the white body colored ninja castles from LEGO... really bold and polished look. also brickster, why does the castle stand so far forward on the baseplate ??? is there something behind the fortress that we can't see from the frontal photo ??? if not, then i would suggest moving it back, and adding some landscaping details in front !!! - BrickMiner
  13. yes, and that is what makes the WW theme more appealing than a civil war theme ;-) WW is romanticised, and is a literary setting, not just a policital war !!!that is what makes it SOOOOOOOooo fun !!! - BrickMiner
  14. cool facts snefroe, thanks for clearing that up. interesting information.hmmm... in any case, that is too bad really, cause i agree with brickster that in this time-fame, LEGO produced its best themes ever. WW, ninja, adventurers... the only thing that is missing from the equation is the islanders :-D ;-) -------------------------------------------------- is there a theory or popular belief that LEGO got into trouble in 2003 ??? or are you saying im wrong cause i believe that ??? cause i dont' think i ever implied that. |-/ -------------------------------------------------- yes, but when you say the theme didn't sell well in a thread that is discussing the quality of the theme, it makes it sound like you think there is a link ;-)-------------------------------------------------- hmmm... i see way more that just "two medium large castles". there is 3050, 3051, 3052, 3053, 3045, 3083, 3088, 3089, and 3093 (which has more pieces than most "large castles") and that is not including small sets or minifig packs.. that is only medium-to-large sets, which you summed up into two sets. there is more material there than a lot of themes ;-) and the content is very thought-through.- BrickMiner
  15. BTW, this is the only thing i published while you were away Gunsligners Saloon instructions. don't know if that counts as a NEW MOC, but i feel like adverstising myself ;-) hehehe...-------------------------------------------------- also, anybody else having tatooine syndrome ??? - BrickMiner
  16. :-D I didn't even consider that! Now that you gave me the idea, I will probably use all the Bull figs heads as pirates. I like patches better for pirates than anything, but not real big on them in general. does that mean you like the fig now ??? :-Dim currently trying to work that head as a WW bandit,... they can loose their eyes too you know, its not just pirates :-D those shoot-outs at the Gunslingers Saloon get pretty nasty >:-) - BrickMiner
  17. im still looking for these sets... wild west set 6769 (fort legoredo) wild west set 6765 (gold city junction) wild west set 6755 (sheriff
  18. ok, im nearly finished with my Ghost Town MOCs *skull* however, im missing a few pieces yet before i am ready to publish them. was wondering if anyone can help !!! i can't find any of the new GITD colored ghost shrouds from king's castle 10176 on BL or ebay >:-( anyone here got one or two... three ;-) they want to sell or trade ??? i'll take up to 5 of them. i'll take the whole ghost minifig, or just the shroud, either way !!! but it has to be the NEW G-I-T-D color !!! - BrickMiner
  19. hang on! i said: 'Ninja was never popular around here', meaning, it didn't do all that well in Belgium. 1998 was the moment when Lego lost popularity thru out the lines and suffered from a shrinking toy market in favor of PC games; In fact, until not so long ago, you could still buy ninja sets in certain shops. nobody wanted them... I find that current popularity of Lego lines does not mean people are willing to buy the old sets as well. if i recall right, you said the same thing about the WW line. it doesn't mean the theme wasn't popular or liked else where. and doesn't say anything about the quailty of the theme in general. ;-) it seems you are suggesting that LEGO's sales started to decline around the time of these two themes, 1996-1999. is this a fact for the whole company or just your area ??? im curious. as i view the theme that is a bit generalized. you could sum up any theme in a few words like that. pirates, definitely castle (even less story), and even star wars !!!i acutally think this in one of the highest conceptualized themes out there, next to adventurers. - BrickMiner
  20. :-D :-D :-D i asked if anyone was having this problem in the new skin thread. again, if this is a large problem, i can surely fix it. anybody else ??? - BrickMiner
  21. being a pirate lover, im surprised you don't like that eye patch ghoulrealm :-D
  22. I agree. They were very nice figs with a lot of detail. In regard to Sheriff's Showdown (6712), I would agree with you again. The only problem is the number of clones in the Wild West collection. It's OK for troops, but outlaws and cowboys should be more limited. I loved Frontier Patrol. It's another great troop pack that you can use to build your army - not weak at all in my opinion. ok, good points. i'd say your opinion comes from the point that a hobbyist is going to buy ALL the sets... my point was more towards the "each-set-tells-its-own-story" point of view. and each set is stand alone. i think each is viable.however, one of the points i love about LEGO is that they told just enough story to get the imagination going. and not too much to stagger it. i love sets that have a little story, or potential for a story... it has a good guy, a bad guy, and a setting. you know what the god guy stands for, and what his obstacles are... how it all unfolds is up to the perceiver. that was just another aspect of LEGO toys that always intrigued me. that is why i say 6712 is a much better conceptualized set, 6706 is just an army builder. - BrickMiner
  23. well, when brickster likes a theme, he gets the H&A forum going !!! :-D :-D :-D it is kinda interesting that i bumped the ninja thread, then brickster jumps back into EB with ninja stuff... was the old thread inspiring, or were we just on the same page ??? ;-) as for the topic, i voted 5. i feel the ninja theme is just as well designed as the WW cowboys line. i just happen to have more interest in the western culture. and just because of personal preference, i shouldn't let that stray my vote. id say the ninja theme was conceptualized very well, and that is its strongest point. - BrickMiner
  24. i think the ninja minifigs are so well designed. if fact, i was recently admiring them last week, and decided to resurrected an old thread here on EB about them... what ninja sets do you have ??? though i think these minifigs are great, i actually prefer a little construction element to my sets. for example, i think WW set 6712 (sheriff's showdown) is a great little set. it creates an atmosphere that no other set has. its a small bandit campsite, and the sheriff is hunting down his man. i mean, there is great story being told there. no other set has that same story. while 6709 (frontier patrol) is week. i mean, i doesn't add anything to the theme. its a bunch of soldiers, well, you get that with 6769 fort legoredo !!! - BrickMiner
