i don't know much about castle MISB prices... but 100 USD for 6 figs seems like a lot !!! especially when the most expensive element included is probably not a minifig, but the pitchfork !!! i do think 6103 is a much better fig pack. more variety, better figs. in any case, i don't think i would ever buy from that guy... i've looked at his MISB western sets, and even gotten him to take some photos of the box quality. but too many peopel are unhappy with there purchases. take a look at his feedback. - BrickMiner

well you did a good job of using highly saturated colors to create mood. so good start *y* however, the horizon doesn't look believable, because your darkened areas now break the natural horizontal line that should continue in a straight line from one side of the image to the other. i would use the polygonal selection tool to select the areas you want to darken. and you would want to darken the sky separate from the ocean. this would help you avoid loosing the natural horizon look. id' say that is your first fix ;-) hope that makes sense - BrickMiner

i have considered the NBA heads... but they all look too goofy. plus, i don't like the idea of my buffalo soldier head being modeled after shaquile o'neal :-D i would forever be thinking shack-attack :-| - Miner

:-D i think that is kinda the point of this thread... "most desired" kinda means to me that you don't have it.but i answered the same way... an army builder... so who am i to say what :-D - Brick Miner

mine too !!!

:-D got it ;-) ok, i just thought of an interesting reply... my most desired (and has been for a long LONG time) is the lando calrissian fig from 10123... i need that head for a custom buffalo soldier !!! it is the only head that appears in old brown (that isn't one of those goofy NBA heads). i mean, there are several other heads that appear in reddish brown or dark flesh... but those colors don't match classic brown. and for me that would be like mixing old and new grays. i just wont do it. so therefore, to make an army of buffalo soldier id need a ton of lando heads. and at 25 USD that would be the most expensive army ever constructed !!! the head never appears on BL individually, only the whole fig |-/ so really, he is my most desired H&A fig... because for me, he represents a buffalo soldier (not lando). :-P - BrickMiner

well, i would say yes, they are a part of "history". and no too long ago pirates were a part of this forum (from here on out to be called "the good ole EB days" ;-) ). but this is brickster's thread, so lets see how he wants to dictate it ;-) - BrickMiner

well, as hinckley mentioned... with sites like BL its hard to "miss out" on a fig. however, my most beloved fig is the calvery soldier (no need to post a pic, 5 appear in my sig ;-) ) love the red beard with the blue uniform... that coupled with the yellow from the minifig head makes for a prefect blend of colors. and i've always loved the bandana piece... one of my favorite accessories. it really adds build to the standard minifig frame... if you want a fig to appear stock or muscular, add a bandana. and i guess the calvery soldier classifies as a "most desired" cause (although i own quite a few) im always looking for more ;-) the redcoat imperial solider (pirates) is another fav, along with the mentioned forestwoman. i don't care for too many of the adventurer figs... i think the figs were the weakest part of the great theme, save max villano and mike ;-) and i don't see how they could be classified as "most desired" cause they are all pretty common :-D -------------------------------------------------- im really curious to hear some of your "most desired" brickster ;-) - BrickMiner

i actually think it is ALL ABOUT the rules... legal and illegal. i mean, LEGO is is a "system"... and its all about finding ways to be creative within that system. not bending the rules and "stressing" your bricks because you are not creative enough to find the "correct method." its kind of like cheating... however, my biggest complaint about some of the illegal procedures is that they look sloppy. sloppy is bad wether its legal or illegal ;-) for me, its more a matter of a model looking AND feeling "clean", "official". - BrickMiner

i always thought this was a very innovative method for creating different character archetypes, without loosing the classic look of the smiley... very innovative.however, i don't mind the new style either, designing from scratch that is. but one thing i don't understand is the redoing of character archetypes... for example: these two heads are nearly the same, why make two characters which are nearly the same ??? i mean, there are so many other personailties which have not been captured yet. this guy was always one of my favorite expansions to the minifig expression. i mean, the personality never existed before. great addition X-D nice topic too ;-) BrickMiner

im keeping that PDF on reference ;-) i try to mimic official LEGO building styles in my MOCs, and this is a great resouce. thanks for bringing it here SW4J X-D -------------------------------------------------- BTW, i can't belive that "constellation" techinque was legal at one time... it looks terrible. - BrickMiner

oh my, he was just joking... it was funny roger ;-) -------------------------------------------------- you know, i've always ask the question that started this thread... who is this guy, REALLY ??? in the trading post he is an independant merchant... but in the schooner he is a pirate. so what is his place in the LEGO universe ??? maybe he was captured at the post in 1992, and one year later turned to piracy in the skulls eye schooner (1993) :-D -------------------------------------------------- so, how does everyone else use this fig ??? for me he is a merchant. - BrickMiner

sorry for the late reply... don't know if this is information still needed, but... it is available at office depot... i used GBC brand lamination. GBC is the company that makes comb and coil binding supplies. and also home/office laminitaion products. they have a heat application line of lam, and a non-heat. i used the non-heat for these. but i might try the heat versions later, for clarity.-------------------------------------------------- ummm... i'll try to find a link on the web... but im sure if you do a search for "GBC lamination" it will come up. well, i did a scan of all the different color bricks to get the colors to match. here is a list of the CMYK and RGB colors that LEGO officially uses, but they don't seem to work for me. it all depends on your printer, so i calibrated mine based on the scans i had done. then i print on non-transparent paper... its just easier to match colors that way. ah, my stickers are pretty thick... or thicker than i'd like, anyway. if you were building around it, the sticker would definitely get in the way.currently, im designing some stickers for the minifig horse. i've yet to try it with the lamination, but im fearing it might be too think for the standard saddle... i'll have to keep you posted though. - BrickMiner

sure you did... you and brickster represented a good opinion contrary to the result of the poll. even i had to rethink my inital vote,... and that qualifies as good discussion.so, maybe a "thank you" wasn't in order... but i love converstions like this, and its a good way of letting you and all the other members reading this know what kind of converstions i like. its my little way of letting members know what type of converstions are quality, so that maybe we can recreate similar topics in the future. - Brick Miner

well, i didn't want to spoil the thread with one reply ;-) - Miner

yes, i agree with the fact the towers are poorly designed... that is why i was pointing out the good points... to explain why the fortress is well liked (and in the lead of the poll).again, i think it is the overall balance and shape the fortess has. - BrickMiner

ok, so my next question is why the bicornes ??? thanks ;-) BrickMiner

is this the "best MOC ever" that you were referring to in your "community" thread ???the one that require some photo editing ??? 8- -
exactly... its like a minifig pack, but with somthing to actually build. love sets like this. i was thinking the same thing ;-) i do think it's interesting that LEGO included the horse "filler" brick and plates in the box cover art though... they usually didn't do this, as it doesn't represent anything except horse body parts in this set :-D - BrickMiner

Cthulhu Adventure MOC
Brick Miner replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
wait, i see some WW mixed in there too... with some walking dead. i see a hint of Ghost Town in there ;-) my favorite thing about this MOC is the ground... very well sculpted. love the tan and light gray contour. the "tremours" looking monsters are nice too. - BrickMiner -
ok, so what you are saying is that you don't like the fortess because it is not realistic... not because it doesn't look good. Nope, I'm saying in my humble opinion The Flying Ninja Fortress does not look nice, and does not reflect traditional Japanese architecture, thus is not a good set. Any other ninja building besides Robber's Retreat is better. ok, so you are saying that you don't like it becasue it's historically incorrect AND you think the design is bad... got it ;-) but are any of the ninja designs historically accurate ??? i don't think this is a good enough reason to not call it my favorite ;-) hmmm... yes, it does look bad there.... i wish the photo was larger.see this set is hard to evaluate, because in the image your provided above the set is built differently than in the box cover art. the photo above could be argued to be and "alternate-model". now, i admit to not having this set... but all photos i have seen of it where the model is built like on the front cover art looks good (two decorated panels facing forward), and has the asymetrical balance that i was talking about. here is somebody's BS folder wher the model is built like the cover... and it looks just as good to me here... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2000492 however, when the model is built to have four panels facing forward (like in the image you provided) it DOES looks bad. BTW, thanks for the discussion, this is a good one ;-) BrickMiner
