well, i would say the the reason the item was created it is irrelivant in this part of the discussion... more relivant is the purpose it fills now, for the purchaser, TODAY. - BM

ok, so i received a BL order today containing a couple of the new batman scarcrow heads. and i notice the glow-in-the-dark material is not the same as the classic ghosts from the castle theme (actually all my other GITD pieces match the older ghost shroud material). the bigest difference is that the scarcrow material isn't as milky white as the shrouds are ??? and it glows a lot better/easier too !!! im having trouble combinding the two different materials into one MOC though... similar to having old and new grays together :-X :-X :-X does anyone know if the shrouds were ever produced in this new GITD material ??? or if the scarecrow heads are produced in the milky white GITD??? - BM

that is great to hear !!! *y* one thing i have always noticed about my pirate MOCing is that i always want to go bigger !!! bigger ships, bigger ports... well, same goes for islanders. i always wanted to do a massive islander jungle/village, with a massive mau in the center. i always loved the forbidden cove mau... i was going to use that as a starting point, only much MUCH bigger !!! would have been a lot of (expensive) old gray !!! - BM

no need to appologize !!! see, when i was creating the H&A Forum banner, jipay had told me he didn't have access to most of his LEGOs at the moment, and therefore couldn't contribute any photos... i didn't mind picking up a few of these history-type figs for myself on BL. however, i have no interest in theater figs (especially at the price !!!) so i posted that inquire for theater images, not knowing jipay was once again able to take photos for me !!! i should have done some consulting first :-$ - BM

AH YES !!! desensitization, is a good word !!! thanks berry. -------------------------------------------------- and hold on phes... i found your thread "hidden", like a good islander in this natural jungle environment. ;-) i just can't comment on everything all at once !!! i have been envolving myself much more with EB as of the past month... much more than i had originally intented. i know it doesn't sounds like much compared to your "average of 14 posts per day" but i posted around 20 replys in the past two days. 8-

the islanders have always held a place in my heart... so colorful, very visually stimulating. the minifigs are just do fun !!! plus, i just love the idea of them using their environment as a weapon and for defense. ropebridges, crocodiles, ambush from trees... plus all of their "natural weapons." i think you captured the spirit perfectly with the islander climbing the tree, and the skeleton dangling from overhead. good to see some islander representation on EB !!! - BrickMiner

:-D :-D :-D ya, i've wondered if my mind would have the same train of thought if the movie Wild Wild West (will smith) was released today ??? makes me wonder if id be steared away from my current western craze ??? it would have to be a good production thought, for that to happen. and WWW just didn't do anything for me. |-/ -------------------------------------------------- i haven't seen your islander MOCs phes, perhaps i didn't look long enough. on my way there... - BrickMiner

ok, i've had been away for awhile (doing summer conventions, and working on the H&A Forum skin) but i just re-read this thread, and i just now realize why you appologized Ghoulrealm. i honestly didn't know before, because my mind was too focused on the real issue i was (still am :-( ) having.its not your MOCs or anybody's MOCs, i wasn't "complaining"... let me put it in new words... see, POTC was so fantasical and visually stimulating that now, looking back on the offical LEGO pirate world, it seems less grand. BSB, SES, Broadside, Spinoza and BoSun all seem less interesting than before i saw the movie. so now, that is why i say, i am disenchanted with LEGO pirates. because the charcters, buildings, and ships that inspired me before are now trumped by the fantasic world of POTC. in effect, the Imperial Trading Post, BSB, SES, and others don't inspire me like they used to :-( creating that fantasic sub-theme, would have been a good way to place the offical-LEGO world within a fantasic POTC inspired world.. but again, im not satisfied with that idea. -------------------------------------------------- i could have just let this thead die, but i wanted to change the title from "dislike" to the more appropriate "disenchanted", and clear things up with you !!! sorry for the confusion, i was having trouble putting my feelings into words i guess !!! - BrickMiner -------------------------------------------------- BTW, i still don't see all those islander MOCS :-P X-D

i pointed this out awhile ago ;-) http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...pic=2629&st=150 :-P - BrickMiner

jipay, you made me realize my sig and avatar was in need of some customizing... i've had plain-old-official-LEGO-box-art for too long. *sad* its a good time to work on it too... in between forum skin designs !!! :-P - BrickMiner

your lucky this wasn't a wild west auction that we've been talking about ;-) :-P i would have said you were making a terrible choice for your entertainment dollar !!! :-D :-D :-D ;-) BTW, that isn't surprising about the south korea thing... most of my MISB and MIB sets that i have sold go straight to south korea. i's say about 90% of sets. i can recall at imperial flagship 6271, 2X Black Seas Barracuda 6285, and a couple sealed WW sets (6755, and 6761). vintage LEGOs must be huge over there !!! 8-

What if not? well, like i said, i don't follow the market on castle sets, but that is nearly irrelivant...see, before investing nearly a thousand dollars on anything, a wise one would do research on the liquidity of the item... to see where the market was at... otherwise it's an irrational decision. and that leads us to glyman's next post... collecting, irrational ?!?!? hmmm... i don't know. i think its all built into sometime called "human nature". only the best get the best... that is, the ones willing to spend the most money have the nicest things. if you choose to spend money on something you can't sleep with, play with , or even touch... its still the nicest one out there... and that (in-and-of-itself) actually makes it and even nicer find.i mean, its like expensive precious metals... sure they look nice, but what do they actually do ??? in the case of a wedding ring... it represents something precious. but doesn't that MISB LEGO set do the same. most of us enjoy LEGOs because of what they ment to us as a child. so while an expensive wedding ring (that does nothing) represents love between two people, and expensive MISB set (that does nothing) represents the awe of childhood youth that we endour so much. at that point, it becomes more of a socially acceptable question. while the wedding ring is justified in most cultures, the expensive childs toy is not. but in essence, they are doing the same thing. - BrickMiner

i don't think its foolish at all (even though his name suggests otherwise :-D ) as glyman has said, this is an excellent copy of the set, and some might not like acknowledge it... but the condition of the box can inflat prices up to 500% or more.similiarly, i've seen prices on wild west set 6761 MISB range from $50 to $225 (the largest price range for a wild west set that i have observed, anyway). and i don't think this huge range exists because of an unstable market. what i have seen is that things like retail price stickers, loose or detatched side flap stickers, and general box wear-and-tear drive the price up or down. what i see in this auction is an exceptionally nice copy... possibly one of the top 10 nicest ??? who knows ??? i don't, because i don't watch the market on castle sets. but WHAT IF this is one of the top 10 most well preserved MISB copies ??? that means it is really REALLY rare, and only the few select collectors willing to pay these high prices will get to own one. lucky fools :-D - BrickMiner

ok here are mine... least favorite. colors, design, its just too weird... most favorite is the ultra rare forest woman !!! that corset torso is just so beautiful. its amazing how impressionistic it is... i mean, the shape of the minifig is really not flattering for a woman's physic. but the printing on the surface expresses so much beauty, and really changes the overall boy-ish shape of the minifig torso. however, my favorite knight is this one... and its the one i used in the new banner !!! probably why i picked him !!! i also love the dark forest men designs... probably my favorite castle figs as a whole sub-theme. - BM

thanks brickster !!! i've always felt ninja is a castle sub-theme, and therefore represented... is this wrong assumption ???

Caribbean Clipper or Imperial Flagship?
Brick Miner replied to texas_jack_can's topic in LEGO Pirates
hey jack !!! get the imperial flagship, its a great work of art... plus you already have the matching imperial trading post !!! if you had elderado fortress i might suggest otherwise... errr... no, i could never bring myself do say that !!! - BrickMiner -
after reading this whole thread, it sounds like my opinion is pretty close to phes. the CC is too wide for such a small ship. and the lack of a sail in the back makes it front look heavy. all-in-all its just to awkward. the gold trim is nice, i agree, but just not enough. the armada flagship (my first pirate ship) is way too colorful... it seems that none of the armada wanted to go to battle... they are just to regal. the figs are too decorated with jewelry for war, and the ship appears the same. i do like the net, but not the falling mast. and unlike others, i do not like the sail here. and i especially don't like the rigging that holds it together at the bottom. i understand why it was done this way, strictly for the falling mast (that i don't like). on the other hand, the imperial flagship is beautiful and a well crafted work of visual 3Dimensional art. it looks great from almost all angles... although from a side shot of the ship, the rigging that goes from the top mast to the back flag creates an unbalanced shape for the ship. small annoyance. now my opinion is strictly based on balance, composition, color theory, and the like... as for realism i make no opinion. - BrickMiner

well, technically, the other side of the exterior wall panels is the interior, even if you can see straight through. in most official LEGO SYSTEM designs you can see straight through the building... LEGO seemed to only need three of the four walls of an enclosed building to justify an interior. :-D - BrickMiner

I'm pretty sure there were a few in the Lego Racer game, but that's all I can think of. im very naive about video games... as i don't participate in their entertainment. your image was just so good, i assumed it must have been CGI !!!and YES !!! i can't wait to see those images for the new theater forum banner !!! now i just have to do them justice ;-) - BM
