B-OM-3C Hi everyone! I have completed my final MOC on my main street based on the buildings from the 1920/1930's. I only changed it to the 40's so I could build slightly more modern vehicles! It is an Art Deco department store which is based loosely on the ones built in the UK by M&S, Burtons the tailors, the co-operative and Woolworths to name but a few. Its a shame most of the buildings are now falling apart Its completely Modular, each floor is sturdy and has stair access. I made the building minus the interior before my last corner bank a little while ago but have now only got round to furnishing it. The ground floor has fine furniture, the first floor has ladies perfumes and cosmetics, and the top floor is a toy department. Apologies again for the quality of the pics. Bad lighting and poor camera phone! More external and interior pics can be found here and MOC pages. Also here is the link to my Corner Bank and Corner Office. Comments and criticsms welcome!

Now that the seocnd wave is pretty much all out, I suppose in the next coming months we may see the list of sets for retailers to order for next year. I imagine Pharaohs quest will have another wave in Jan, and probably an in-house new theme along the lines of Power miners/Ice etc. Just my guess though Bring on the speculation!

Thanks for the comments about the building. Just checked our your tram, its very good, I did alot of research in books and historical pics etc when I attempted mine but I never gave thought to check MOCS It was a bit of an afterthought, I perhaps could have made the overhead wire more vertical but the street posts were becoming unstable and taken the eye away from the relatively short buildings so I had to compromise. Thanks to everyone for the positive comments so far especially about the Tan and blue combo, I did have some second thoughts about going to dark tan instead. But I am glad I didn't! I hope Lego bring out more Dark green, it would really help out the era of my buildings!

Hi everyone! Here is another early to mid 20th century building from me. I started it a few months ago and worked on it on and off and eventually decided to furnish the interior. I could not destroy my last corner MOC and wanted a way to keep older theme going! It has some Art Deco theming but I have tried to keep it more 'realistic' as it is a bank. There is 3 floors of details, and also a tram outside and people reflecting the period. Many more pictures can be found here and at my FLICKr Comments very much welcome!

Did you steal my little boy selling newspapers from here ?

Great MOC, love the small details, windows on the buildings look great, Just beat me to it though as my 30/40s street scene is coming along soon!

FB @ shop @ Home is 99GBP but 149-169 Euro's depending on country so perhaps pounds may be slightly lower. I guess slightly lower than GE, but could just be wishful thinking!

Just noticed the now oldest modular building '10197 the fire brigade' is now accepting back orders in most EU countries, Could be discontinued soon, paving the way for the new one? Or is that just co-incidence?

Baseplates are thinner than normal plates s perhaps it will not 'sit' right and may be more difficult to get it to stay in place, sometimes I use a 'stepped' effect for the bottom of the upstairs floor. I use a 'Z' shape with a plate on the top and bottom facing opposite ways with a normal height brick inbetween but only on the front of the building so it sites flush. There is no need to use too many plates but if you are short on surface area reinforce them from underneath with a 2x8 flat plate etc. I would echo what has been said about checking out the instructions on brickset for the modular build sets. Maybe it will help :)

Well done, 2 great builds, love art deco, so this suits me right down to the ground!

Thanks! I really wanted to do a third floor but ran out of those larger green windows, however on reflection I am more than happy with the two floors, sometimes there can be too much of a good thing!

Thanks! The great thing about art deco is the streamlining imo. Was debating whether to do in mainly white and highlight in yellow, tried highlighting in tan and didn't look right. Eventually settled in blue after far too much time googling Ocean drive

Thanks! All the photo's I could find for inspiration were b+w or sepia so guess this looks of that time! The car was a bit of an afterthought but happy with how it turned out!

I actually really like that moc hotel, ive seen it before, I really wanted to do a full rounded corner like the raleigh hotel but proved difficult to look good and make it modular. I did toy with the idea of a balcony around the sides and windows like yours but eventually settled on some small window coverings.

There is a picture of Dr Crane with his brother and family on one of the pictures on the link! Hopefully ill get some better pics soon, not a great room for natural light sadly Art Deco is my favorite period for buildings. we all know Lego is great for straight lines! Thanks for the positive comments!

hi everyone, I currently own both the '10197 fire station' and the '10211 grand emporium' already but want another! Love the fire station, was not sure about the grand emporium at first but has grown on me greatly after using pieces for other projects. I make MOC's on a town theme, particularly older buildings, so the many green windows from the grand emporium are fantastic and cannot be bough on PAB. It also comes with a very healthy amount of useful tan. The fire station on the other hand has alot medium grey, dark tan and the dark red colour which I love and also the 1x1 flat dark red tiles for creating the brick gap effect around the windows, again cant get on PAB. Do I go for the cheaper option fire station while its still around or spend a little more on the GE? Whats more useful? Your thoughts? Help me spend my money while its still double points! Andrew

Diagon Alley was set no 10217, images came out a couple of months before release. Maersk train set is 10219 according to brickset, would have thought it would be due out soon. Does that mean the 'petshop - 10218' is an earlier release than summer, or there is another exclusive inbetween and this set number may be wrong?
-
I would put money on the next modular having a female minifig or two with a newer hairpiece, possibly Ginny Weasley from the Burrow or one of the ones from POTC. The Grand Emporium was quite generous! Wonder what the next one will be though, don't think a pet shop of bank could fill 2-3 floors with alot of detail. Hmmmmmmmm

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. I think Lego lends itself very well to Art-Deco due to to straight lines and geometrical shapes. In the North-east UK where I travel around everyday, there is usually some similar buildings in most small towns, many with white fascia's and staggered lines. Most have greek style columns both round and straight and a ziggurat effect with larger centre pillar which is what I have done here. Most of the buildings styled in this way were part of chain shops like Woolworths, Burtons the tailors and the Co-Operative which probably made me want to make a shop, very sad that most of them are now in disrepair I originally wanted to do a 'Miami - Ocean drive' or 'Napier - NZ' style building but decided instead I like columns and rounded edges and kept it looking like something closer to home. I like the period of the 20/30's and thought the inside details should also replicate this, such as Egyptian themed stairs and bold lines on the walls. It's probably around 2300+ pieces, unfortunatly it cost me a small fortune on PAB getting the windows and white bricks but alot of the parts came from the grand emporium. Hope this helps! More feedback or questions welcomed.

Hey everyone! Just finished up another MOC based on a 20/30's theme, a modular department store with full interior. Here are some sample picks from all of the floors, some in black and white to capture the effect from that time :) Many more on to be found Here Hope you like it, I will try to answer any questions and all feedback welcome! Cheers
