Bionicle Autopsy: Did Hero Factory Kill Bionicle?
Mesonak replied to pocketmego's topic in LEGO Action Figures
If that's the case, then I guess we're doing something right. I wouldn't think we'd be big enough on youtube to affect the majority of the community and their feelings towards HF, but if we are, hey, that's great. :P -
Bionicle Autopsy: Did Hero Factory Kill Bionicle?
Mesonak replied to pocketmego's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Hah, cool to see you think so. We try and make entertaining podcasts and other assorted videos but they sometimes run long, and that can turn some people away. Var puts a lot of work into trying to make the Autopsy videos high quality while also being concise and to the point. You're right about that. It's a pretty uphill battle with the large part of the community, because they have such a strong brand loyalty to BIONICLE they feel that giving their money to its successor would be a betrayal. It's up to the individual people whether they accept the contrasting viewpoint to that, but hey, that's life. :P -
Bionicle Autopsy: Did Hero Factory Kill Bionicle?

Thanks for making a topic about this! While I did not make the video in question, I manage and create content for the group channel on which it is hosted. :P Your points are very valid, Aanchir. It's my belief that the intent of the video was not to inspire a false sense of control but rather, as you said, show people all we can really do to make a difference. Money speaks, and all that. The BIONICLE youtube community (as well as BZP, to some extent) is filled with people that seem to think that boycotting Hero Factory will help them achieve their end goal of reviving the BIONICLE brand. Communicating to them the errors in that belief, as well as the only thing they can do that may have any effect even remotely connected to their goal really was the purpose of the video. -
They are really unprinted. Several people purchased them and posted pictures (like this) showcasing them. I'd say go for it.

I remember the site quite well, since I'm the one that initially tracked it down (though I didn't post here, for some reason; probably too busy alerting everyone to the Hero Factory sets ). It's right here.

Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Mesonak replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well, considering they have numerous other animals from the tribes that they created for the TV show (Bears, Rhinos, and Beavers), as well as the russian preliminary video from a while back that showed the theme is projected to continue for three years, I would assume Chima's not going anywhere. I heavily doubt sales have lived up to Ninjago, but I suspect it's doing well enough to warrant continuing. -
Well, there's a very large difference between something being a favorite of yours and it being flawless. For instance, Witch Doctor is my personal favorite HF set based on a number of reasons such as his size, complexity, and overall theme. However, since I'm very critical in regards to my sets, I'm not able to ignore all the flaws he has in his design just because he's my favorite. That being said, even with those flaws present, he's still my favorite, because I can accept them. This is Lego, after all, so improvements to sets can be made rather easily. To refrain from making those improvements simply because the set is your "favorite"... well, unless you're a purist or simply don't have the pieces, I don't get the logic behind that. :P
-
This is a pretty good indication of the site's reliability. They've been correct many, many times before when it comes to new sets (or lack thereof, in this instance :P). Shame if the games are going, but I can't say I ever bought one.

Bulk wouldn't exactly be a good candidate for piloting a jet, IMO. A tank would be more his style. (Now I have ideas for Tank Bulk..... hmm...) Breez, however, I could see working equally as well as Rocka, but then they wouldn't have been able to have the confrontation between Breez and Surge in the special. (Not that I'm insinuating they plan sets around the special, but still. I bet they had a rough idea when the sets were being developed.)
-
I have to echo some of the sentiments of a few people here in regards to Jet Rocka. It's not that the set is bad, persay, but I cannot even begin to express my irritation at Rocka being the character that received this set, rather than someone else. It's bad enough that we're pretty much never going to get a new hero at this point, but to not even properly make use of the full cast we have now? It's frustrating, especiallty since I quite enjoy the characters of Stringer and Nex. I'll stick pick it up at some point, however, if solely for pieces alone. Another problem I have with the set is how awkward it looks without the wings extended. And unless there's a way to permanently have his wings extended while the set is on display... yeah. Not going to be too much of a fan. :P

I'd like the timeline more if it was actually a timeline with, you know, organization by story year. Instead it's just random placement and a jumble of previously released videos. I find it just rich that while they're making efforts to improve by including Brain Attack and Breakout banners, the first three things below the Breakout banner are the following, in this order: 1. Breakout 2. Brain Attack 3. Hero Factory 1.0 testimonials :|

No problem; I didn't make a lot of changes, though. Just a few color alterations. XL Skeleton (I took Surge XL apart directly after taking the pictures, hence why this is Furno. )
-
Speaking of Surge XL, I had made a MOC like that a while back, but completely forgot to take pictures. You guys reminded me to do that, so I did - it's literally just a Furno XL design with modified colors, but I thought it ended up looking pretty nice. Surge XL Extendable wings Back on the topic of official combiners, I think Frost Beast and Stormer's will look quite cool, I expect Evo and Aquagon's to be pretty generic, and Surge and Dragon Bolt's to be something awesome. I'd love a Jet Rocka alternate model, but that's pretty unlikely at this point.

But Dorek! What about the mysterious smoke Nebula... thing that Voltix caused? Finally got around to taking pictures of my Bruizer revamp today. Not really a huge reimagining, just a couple of things here and there. Could probably have taken a better picture, but I'll do that some other time. Bruizer Modified arm connection

Well, if I was giving you an honest recommendation based on the sets I own, I'd say shoot for a villain. All four of them are spectacular IMO, even Scarox (though to a much lesser degree). If I was recommending a hero, I would STILL say skip both of them in favor of Furno XL, or if he's not available, Rocka. Seeing as that isn't an option... As far as Bulk and Breez go, they're the only two sets I do not own, so my opinion really doesn't mean much. But it seems to me, based on what I've seen, that Breez is the more solid set, whereas Bulk has some very nifty recolors on him. My personal preference dictates shoot for Breez unless you're a hardcore MoCist and want pieces you can't get elsewhere. :P Glad you enjoy Furno XL; when I got him he impressed me to no end, especially considering I had such a negative opinion of the set beforehand. One of my favorite HF sets released thus far, to be honest. New sets look pretty amazing in that video - loving Dragon Bolt's construction. Frost Beast and Jet Rocka both look quite a good bit better. Getting excited for the summer already. :D

Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Mesonak replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I'm going to open this post by expressing my lament over all of these sets' horrible, printed torsos with glaring asymmetrical designs. They just don't sit well with me, especially on Gorzan's torso armor, where it just looks... bad. Opinions haven't changed from the previous small picture. Eris looks pretty mediocre, Laval looks terribly generic and has horrible leg armor placement, and Cragger is lacking many recolors that I was excited for on him, but still looks okay. Gorzan is better than Hulk, I'd say, and that weapon is nice, but the lack of the banana belt takes away a lot of this guy's personality. Worriz and Razar are the only sets I'm really excited for here, and will definitely be picking up. Worriz is just great all-around, and there's nothing I really dislike. Razar is just a carbon copy of Eris with better colors and a cooler looking head. Hoping these are prototypes, but I don't really believe that anymore. :P -
Hmmm. Well, I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not disappointed that they scaled down Dragon Bolt (or rather, scaled him up for the show's purposes). At the same time, I always knew that would happen because releasing a set like what was shown in the TV show would be quite expensive. The set still looks nice now, but the wings could use some improvement IMO. The two different types of pieces used don't exactly mesh well together. Regardless, I'm still very pleased with this guy, especially if he can squeeze into a $20 price point. Surge just looks great, though his lack of trans-yellow saddens me greatly. Best version of him so far IMO. Jet Rocka looks crazy top-heavy and awkward when standing up normally, but very nice when in "flight-mode". Like the design of this guy. Evo and Aquagon look nice, even if they're both a little generic. I like them enough to definitely aim to pick them both up at some point. Frost Beast looks more than a little awkward, and I will be swapping out his torso plate with another color because all that white just looks very strange. Rest of the set looks real nice though, a large plethora of recolors. Stormer stands up pretty well to the rest of the heroes; loving that weapon. Overall I quite like this wave. Couple disappointments here and there, but all the sets stand out and are very original. I'd call that a success.
-
I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty positive that Stormer uses a blue head as well. It can be seen both in the render from a while back, as well as in the various trailers for the show. I'd bet that Frost Beast probably does as well, but obviously nobody can be certain about that at this point in time. EDIT: Beaten

Not to my knowledge; have you heard anything to suggest they have?
-
Oh yeah, your post reminded me to post that I recently was able to procure Scarox and I was actually impressed. He's not going to win any awards for design, that's for sure, and the function's a bit lacking, but he's got a lot of personality to him. It's only really evident when you see him IRL that you can, in a way, appreciate how they designed him. I actually think adding armor to his limbs or lengthening them would detract from his appearance. It's not one of my favorite Brain Attack sets by ANY stretch of the imagination, but he was kind of a surprise for me; I didn't really expect to like him as much as I do.
-
What absurd circumstances for pictures to be revealed. Finalized, HD pictures on Kmart.com a good 4-5 months ahead of schedule, before we even see the sets at Toy Fair... lol. Evo looks pretty bland to be honest, though that's one heck of a spear. Aquagon's great, has a lot of personality to him and some nifty recolors.

Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Mesonak replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I dunno, I don't really think that my opinions would be different if this photo was any larger. As far as the design goes, these Chima figures are pretty solid, no real glaring faults. It's the mysterious and controversial "prototypes" that are stirring up all this controversy. Not really because these versions are bad, far from it. They're just quite a large downgrade from what we previously saw. -
Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Mesonak replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well. This is underwhelming. I'm holding on to the belief that these are prototypes, as unlikely as it is. I just can't realistically see them making new, unique molds for Cragger's swords, along with several unique recolors and interesting leg/feet designs, only to ditch them later on in the development process. Also, Gorzan's absence of a banana belt makes me cry a little inside. Eris is strange and woefully uninteresting, Worriz has some nice parts, and Razar actually looks pretty amazing in my opinion. -
Who needs pictures from the Toy Fair? I've got something much better... Gentlemen, I present to you... The most epic video across all youtube (okay maybe that's a stretch)! (Spoiler alert: It's pretty bad)
-
Yeah, I agree. Speeda Demon's pretty great, but not $35 great.
