[HELP] Number of Axles
aminnich replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
weight is not a problem, as of right now (two powered axles) I move along very well, with four battery boxes for weight, two battery boxes for power, 4 L motors, and a chassis. Weight is not a problem -
[HELP] Number of Axles
aminnich replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
ok, seems like a good idea. I am powering each wheel independently with L motors. I just do not know if I will have to power all three axles, requiring 6 L motors just for drive!! -
Hey guys, I know that trucks have more axles to distribute the weight of what they are transporting. That is why some lowboys and what not use a Jeep, this gives more axles. So I am wondering if you think it will have a mush great effect if you would add more axles to a heavy transport vehicle with LEGOs. I am torn between adding another powered axle on my truck to add more power, so depending on the answers I get, is what I will do. Also, what if I had a 4 axle truck (3 in rear) but only powered 2 of the three rear, idk.

Power Functions Project
aminnich replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My L motor shipment finally came!!!! I build your design (andythenorth) and it worked great, lots of speed and has enough power to do the job. I did not build the whole truck yet, but that will be coming soon. I did run into a very small problem. The batteries in the different battery boxed had different amount of life left in them. so one wheel was spinning faster than the other, and it just went in circles. That is a quick fix though -
But with the mobile crane, 10 wheels seemed reasonable. I mean cranes like that do have 10 or more wheels, usually... But when it comes to a truck of some sort, they do not all have dual wheels. If this new tipper truck comes out with dual wheels, that would be nice. especially if they are new wheels, who knows.

would that be the first model with dual wheels??? I know that is like the first thing moc-ers do to a model if it does not have dual wheels. So that would be awesome if it did, but I cant prove it.

I also have both. i would say if you are looking to get power functions, go for 42030. if you are not into the power functions, then just go for 42009. both are good, both have lots of parts, and both are playable

here is what I came up with. It is bare bones and is not nicely colored, but the function is there. And it works just like the real thing. It requires no LAs, just some gears. This is what it looks like when the outriggers are folded up this is what it looks like wit the outriggers out, again this is only a rough idea The shows the comparison between folded up and down This picture is the easiest to show how it works. A gear would be added to the longer dark grey axle, it would have to be geared down because it does not have a mechanical advantage. the gear would move the white beams downward and the outrigger moves outward and down.

so if I don't have a train remote, will my truck go the faster speed all the time? -

I watched all the videos you sent, and OMG I was not expecting that at all. The vehicle you make is simple but it has two battery boxes (weight), 2 receivers, motors etc. but I was surprised at how fast it moved!!! I was planning on using two battery boxes and two receivers, but i have to figure out something i can do for weight over the steering. I do have one quest though, in 2 of the videos the vehicles seemed to have two speeds. You didnt sneak a gearbox in there, did u? that would be impressive. anyway, i am very happy with the outcome of your idea, a great combination of speed and power!! -

I agree, the L motor has got to be the best of all the motors, because of everything you said -

Thank you for being so helpful, I would have been stuck without you. My idea was very similar to yours. It look pretty strong and I think that is how wide it is going to get.. Look great, im going to build this and mine and compare the strength (once the mailman comes ) Anyway, thanks again for all your help and I will keep you posted on my progress.
