  1. Nerwen shrugs. Protect the sinless? We might as well hold up candles to make the sunshine brighter or add water to make the sea wetter. The sinless do not need protecting, that they are sinless is ample evidence enough that they are protected already. So it is we protect those who have done wrong, granted, we claim no moral high ground. Do you claim that you do evil murder in order that good might possibly result? Where does that leave you when one comes to take your life? Nerwen - sword vs. poor misguided girl
  2. Charge! Nerwen -sword vs. assassin
  3. Nerwen signs up for the raffle before turning her attention back to the battle.
  4. Apologies all, Winter break just ended so I'm back on campus and work is burying for a little while. Nerwen hears the gnome's bass voice take charge of the watchmen and the others. The cowl she still wore let her follow the conversation with Ruffers and Pigley also. She spoke gently in reply. Assassins often excel in taking out lone targets, but have difficulty with large groups of defenders. <Ruffers, please hold that essence for the moment. It would be a shame to be defending master Thistlethorp but have him fall anyway.> Not sure if you've added up the numbers properly. Matthias: not attacking Nerwen (lucky): roll 6&6 dead: 1/36 odds. roll 5&6, 6&5 or 5&5, 1/3 chance of dead, 3/36*1/3=1/36 odds. Total 1/18 odds Alexis: roll 6 dead: 1/6 odds p, roll 5, 1/3 chance of dead, 1/6*1/3=1/18 odds. Total 4/18 odds. Plus 1 in 4 chance of random dying at end of round. I agree though. Getting Angels up ASAP is key. Don't forget Samuel is a Paladin too! What would mess with us is using a PE this round and only having one left who gets randomly dropped, We can't afford to use the PE this round. It grates, I hate NPCs dying but with only 2PEs and so much chance of KOs, we have to choose with NPCs to save much later in the battle. Gurth goth Tel'Quessir! Nerwen - sword vs. redbitch
  5. 1. There is no such thing as too linear. Linearity provides sense of accomplishment, ticking things off to achive a task. 1b. yes 1c. No 2a. Heroica is a LEGO (Ahem, sorry for shouting, wanted too emphasise this) role playing game. As such the size of your quest should be a function of how much building and figbarfing and photographing you can/want to do before starting. But as a suggestion for first quest, keep it simple! 2b. Not too much freedom if you have photos prepped of the various places. Holding the quest up to build/shoot a new location could lose players interest if you're not careful 2c. Again deepened so your level of preparedness. If you've got script drafted for 8-10 options fine. As long as they are actually different and don't all lead back to a small set of results. If your players have a 'choice' to visit locations but the actual order they visit in doesn't matter, why give them the choice? Just keep the quest moving without waiting for a timezone lagged conversation. 3. More LEGO locations with clear direct goals and means of getting there. 4a. Gut feeling says failed battles are frustrating, especially if they burn resources. 4b. You'd need so signal up front and often that battles are like that so players know to look out for such preparation. 4c,d,e no, not a good one. No bad if executed very well, and yes annoying. 4f. YES! Always always no exceptions flag clearly upfront and multiple times (use bold italic supersized font if needed) when a battle does not count toward quest goal. And the don't bother with that battle and move on to one that does affect the quest, SIMPLIFY! 5a,b,c. If I can't see how the battle can be won up front, I'd feel stonewalled as a player. If you change the rules mid battle making the battle harder if feel gyped. So, no, not cool to my thinking, 6a,b Depends. If I was an AOE Type character hordes are great to mow through. If I'm a tank a single enemy I can go toe up with is better. 7. Distinguish here between NPCs added to the party and NPCs the party meets, For the first catagory, never more NPCs than players, and be careful not to make them too much more powerful than the players. For the second. Diminishing returns, the more NPCs you have the less the players will care about any of them. 8. If the quest is about working out how to defeat powerful enemy then fine, foreshadow, training montage, research breakthrough unexpected setback and final victory it up! If that's not the (clearly demarked) point of the quest then leave that mechanic alone! 9a. Feasibly depends on your building and photography and scripting skills. 9b. Yes 9c. Yes. 10a,b. Premiss of question invalid 10c. Experience is earned in doing it. Doing it well entails good building/photos/scripting. 11. Sorry not interested in helping as would rather work on a QM slot of my own.
  6. Nerwen nods as the watches ar divided. She takes out her bedroll and sits beside it meditating, which for her is better than sleeping.
  7. Huh. Guards can't use shields. Thought a defensive class like that would've. Also, two of them are equipped with city watch halberds (weapon type halberd?) but halberds aren't listed in the usable weapons of watchmen. You need a good weapon Crowley, take my mourning star and my white cloak while you are at it. Also, Samuel, you can use a red lizard shield, so take my spare. It's weak, but better than nothing. And you can use this too, she says, placing the seal of the warrior priestess around his neck. There are many ways the Private might be hunted without knowing the reason, Samuel. It could be a case of mistakes identity, it could be he has be affect by a curse or charm that blocks the memory of the event or, given dreams and visions, it might not be something he has done bit something he will do that his assassins do not wish him to forstall.
  8. Nerwen looks over the watchmen If you are fighting alongside us, it will be helpful to know how you are equipped and what your skills are. She checks the party to make sure everyone was healed up and ready for action.
  9. Nerwen turns to Matthias. I am glad it did not come to raising arms against one another. No good comes of fights like that. What is it about Private Thistlethorp that people seek to kill him? Has he witnessed something he ought not?
  10. A 32x32 baseplate is 10" (exactly!) so four baseplates in each direction. (Operational) Small layouts can be divided into two types (ignoring static diorama display layouts) Circles (loops, pizzas, ovals) and end to end layouts. In 40" you have enough space for a loop. Or even two nested ones. If you do go for a complete loop, there is not much space left over for switches with spurs of more than about a car length. A loop will tend toward passenger stock or, as suggested above, even a trolley/tram kinda thing. If you go for an end to end layout you can't run trains continuously, but you'll have a more space to put sidings and shunt cars about. You'd be looking a freight and goods cars for these sorts of layouts. And a small shunting engine. From what you've said, sounds like you're thinking loop. Do you have modular buildings (like the cinema, Parisian restaurant etc) to put in the middle, if so a tram or short passenger train running around those would look fine.
  11. Nerwen expends an ether and heals Lieutenant Andrew's wound. Speaking to Alexis and Matthias, she says., Whilst the watch have our service, we still ought choose one of our own to order the battles, distribute loot and keep our quest on track. I believe Purpearl indicated that you were to take over Alexis, but if you do not wish to, say so.
  12. Nerwen stops. Speaking as diplomatically as she can she says, Lord Severan. My profound apologies. I fear this situation has got out of hand. Speaking to Samuel she replies I understand, and even agree with you. It is one thing to evade a pompous stuffed shirt, it is another to raise arms against the Captain of the Guards. Shaking her head sadly, she lifts her voice. Lady Berthadhiell, I counsel and urge you, lay down your arms, this is a fight we should not be having.
  13. Nerwen's eyes narrowed as her diplomatic words bounced off the angry man. Clearly some other approach was needed. But before she could get a firm read on the man, their party leader's belligerence closed off all but fighting or surrendering. Diplomacy was not going to work here, they needed another solution. She stepped closer to XX and said quietly I understand your reluctance to be taken. Perhaps you might have something which would let us flee safely? A smoke bomb?
  14. Hey! Nerwen is not amoral, she's strongly principaled. It's just she sometimes tends towards a different moral schema.
  15. Yes I did mean to heal NPCs too. thanks Zeph. Nerwen steps forward. Speaking calmly and diplomatically. We do apologise for the upset Captain, Nerwen began, deliberately getting the guardsmans rank wrong, as you can see plainly, we have been defending ourselves and these patrons, waving a hand in the direction of Midge and Samuel, From the aggression of the deceased Orc and Dwarf you see here. We were about to put right what we could with the barkeep and proceed to report this violence to the watch, but you have happily spared us the necessity of that. Of course, you do not need to tell you, I am sure you know simply by looking, that this Orc is a notorious mercenary, implicated in the theft of several artifacts recently. I of understand that my telling you such is merely hearsay and no substitute for your powers of investigation. Nerwen brushed he hands together and smiled warmly. O am glad you came, we can in good conscience now leave the apprehension of his comrades and the recovery of the items mentioned in your extremely capable hands whilst we return to our own duties.
  16. Nerwen picks up her shield again and the other artifacts, before proceeding to heal everyone who needs it.
  17. Nerwen and Samuel charge into the fray once more. Nerwen - sword vs. sneezy Samuel - sword vs. sneezy
  18. since the scene will be exciting enough to cause errors, delay to double check work may be best.
  19. I think that's what Zepher means. His second character possibilities are currently NPCs and he plays his NPCs on hardcore mode to encourage PCs to think well about how they treat the sock puppets. When the time comes he'll promote his favourite (surviving) NPC to his second PC slot. Also, Nerwen views herself as a 'high' elf (still sorting out what that means in game). She's not particularly woodsy though she has lived rough when living in the Orc refugee camp for a decade. Mostly she's urban, cultured and quite well educated (by elvish standards, to say nothing of human standards).
  20. Nerwen readies her blade, signalling Samuel to do the same. Nerwen - sword vs. sneezy Samuel - sword vs. sneezy Turns out Nerwen has a racist streak. I'm surprised too. And thanks for the gnome informer quip NS! gave me a smile, plus brought back of high school.
  21. Nerwen remains quiet, leaving the party leader to negotiate. But mutters quietly The best dwarf is a dead dwarf.
  22. Seeing Samuel fall to Sneezy's blows, Nerwen's eyes narrow. She says in a sharp voice to the dwarf, I'quelin Naugrim naa ba Naugrim. Gurth goth lye! In a calmer tone to Matthias. I am certain if you raise Samuel you will have his gratitude. Nerwen - mourning star vs. Sneezy Samuel - sword vs. Sneezy
  23. Caution. Head canon ahead. I've always read row as a difference of intent. That is, fighting in the 'front row' is going on the offensive. Being less concerned with personal safety than with dealing a good hit. Conversely, 'back row' is being defensive, moving, using cover etc, at the cost of a less effective strike. So it's not (directly) about physical proximity to enemies.
  24. Useful work Nstikney. Is it not an in character post because Matthias isn't strategic or because you chose not to make an in character post for some other reason? Seeing Sneezy take the offensive, Nerwen switches her target also. Nerwen - mourning star vs. Sneezy
  25. Nerwen looks over their opponents Samuel, perhaps you might best change your target to the dwarf? Samuel - sword vs. sneezy can we get clarification on whether Nerwen would take 16 or 32 damage from that special. Ie. does reinforced act on Nerwen doubling her defence or on the artifacts themselves, doubling their SP.
