Even the outriggers in 42053 (yes, I am going to continue using that set as an example) were individually controlled, so I'm not really bothered about that. Again, 42053. Looks and functionality in one great package. And an amazing B-model to boot. I'm gonna ask for clarification here. Are you saying this set is designed better than 42053? Or the other way round?

I like how this is clearly a scrap handler and yet TLG stuck it in a quarry.

Not massively keen on the steering gear being right next to the axle either.

I share your FFS, trust me. It's a shame TLG doesn't do alternates for the big stuff anymore. Makes it way less appealing. I would much sooner get a used 42053 off Bricklink, but I'm not gonna yuck your yum.

If you look at the dipper stick, you can spot the small pneumatic ram above the claw. This seemingly opens and closes it, using the linkage that includes the vertical beam.

It is extremely chonky. I think that's down to accommodating the mahoosive battery box.

Looks like a typical Technic beam to me. It looks to be part of a linkage actuated by the small pneumatic ram to open and close the claw. It seems like a pretty hefty assembly for the ram to move.

A comparison shot of this 🐕 next to 42053 would be good.
