  1. I'm Pellaeon and I approve this post! Thanks for taking the time in LDD, ScottishDave. Maybe we should still do PDF instructions... it sounds like there's a good fifteen bucks in it for us! The other big difference between his and mine is the interior A-frame: mine is a Technic construct and his is built from plates and clips. His looks just as stable and I suspect the angle between his hull plates is better, so I might give his A-frame a try myself. To anyone else who replicates this Executor: I insist that you share pictures with us!
  2. Wow, nice looking figures! - Does the golden minifig remind anyone else of those gold- or silver-painted street performers you'll see in most major cities? I have definitely seen a gold-painted guy in a top hat in San Francisco, though you see a lot of things in San Francisco. :P - Only two of the figures are smirking! This must be an all-time low for smirks in a CMF series. (the librarian seems bemused but not quite smirking) - I hope the painter will come with a paint bucket as was rumored. I want both the new bucket piece and the bley handle. :D Thanks GRogall!
  3. So if JJ Abrams is the "future of Star Wars", are we required allowed to photoshop a lens flare into our entry photo? :D
  4. Thanks Pandora, great review and excellent photos! I have a few questions about Joanna's hair: Is the the typical rubber for Friends hair, and does it have the holes for bows? It looks like rubber, but I don't see the holes. How does it look on a regular minifig--could you take a photo or two when you get a chance? The hair doesn't extend too far down on the head, so I'm hoping it will look okay. I'm thinking of using the hair for Catwoman, especially if I can shove a pair of goggles on top of the hair. Thanks again!
  5. Nice review, Solscud007! I love the backlit shots of the cave. I agree it's a pricey set, but two points just to be fair: First, IIRC the MSRP is $60 and your $65 price included the TRU markup. Second, it may only have 380 pieces but it comes with a giant freakin' rancor! That's gotta add something to the cost (and the value); the question is whether you think a big ol' rancor is a good reason to pay a $20 premium on 40 bucks worth of parts. Better luck next time.
  6. I found them today at the Lego Store in San Jose, Ca. I had a little fun with a couple of them: The Stuff of Nightmares Cosplayer aka "Guy dressed as a Megablocks Transformer" :P
  7. I think that picture is more of an indictment of the sports car -- it's ludicrously big! I put Lego's Tumbler next to my Tumbler MOC and another MOC by Tiler; the size is about right, it's just overly simplistic.
  8. Sorry, I don't have time to do a mini-review. I'm sure somebody will review it very soon. My two sentence review: it is a decent model or parts pack, but the minifigs are clearly the selling point. I do like the ice block, and the disk-launching "action" feature works quite well -- a nice alternative to flick-fire missiles.
  9. Sure. It's a pretty nice design, but I wish there were a second face with a calmer expression (and maybe goggles). Also worth noting: his Atlantis armor is sand blue, not light bley as the various pictures (especially the 3D renders) had suggested. It looks very nice in that color, I like it.
  10. Just got Mr. Freeze set at TRU, so I can confirm: All 3 figures have back printing, including Freeze. Aquaman has a double-sided head, Freeze does not (boo). Oh, and Freeze looks great with the old goggled head.
  11. A guy on the FBTB forum reported that Mr. Freeze has a single-sided head, just the one expression. Very disappointing.
  12. Separatist Christmas by Pellaeon I guess all those arms are good for something! :P Excited for another year of fun entries and awesome prizes, thanks CopMike!
  13. Nicely done! I've been working on an Architecture-style pyramid myself but with nothing (yet) to show for it (I saw it in person back in February for my 30th birthday). I should mention that your photos are of Khafre's pyramid—its higher plateau makes it appear to be the tallest of the three. Khufu's Great Pyramid is the northernmost of the three pyramids and is missing its top. Khufu's pyramid also doesn't have any queens' pyramids, but I think that's within your artistic license. I'll likely do the same, and/or include Khafre's Sphinx!
  14. The Bat is decent, but the Tumbler is weak, even given the scale and parts limitation. I think the windscreen is particularly unforgivable--even something as lame as a steeper windscreen with a sticker down the middle would have been better. That said, I'll buy it for the parts and figures. Somehow I think TLG knew that would happen.
  15. It's big but not as big as you might think. If we decide that a typical Lego car should be 6-studs wide (a common and reasonable size), the Tumbler should be about 8 studs wide--a size I think only Zeto has achieved. The usual size for the MOC Tumblers is 10-12 studs wide, including mine and Tiler's. The Tumbler from 7888, on the other hand, seems to be a monstrous 16-18 studs wide. I'm not expecting the 2013 Tumbler to be as good as the MOCs I linked, but I hope they make it smaller than the 2008 version--and considering how big and complex The Bat will be, I'm pretty confident they'll be forced to do a much smaller and simpler Tumbler if they're aiming for a $40-60 set. PS: I'm at work, so my measurements are based on the photos and I might be off by a half-stud or so... but you get the idea.
  16. 21. Rook - 1 39. Legopard - 2 40. Artizan - 2
  17. Thanks for the pics, Solscud! It's about time EB got together to talk about 360 degree head printing! Yes, it looks like the two halves don't quite align. It's clear how the "360 degree head print" is done: the head is printed in thirds, with the face on one third and the headpiece divided into two parts that must be carefully aligned. It looks good, but the fact that we haven't seen it on any of the 2013 figures (such as the masked Dark Knight Rises-style Bane) suggests (to me at least) that 360 degree head prints won't be commonplace anytime soon. As a side question: I wonder if these Lobots are printed in Denmark or China?
  18. Thanks, these are great! The armor is really nice, as is the back printing.
  19. Thanks for the review! It looks like a nice set, though it's hard to justify the $90 price tag... Would you mind a couple of photo requests? Could you get a shot of Malgus from the side and back, with his armor on? I haven't seen anyone take a picture of the back of his armor, or how it fits over the cape. Thanks! And if you don't mind an extremely self-serving request, I'd love to see how well a trans-clear Round 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 Dome fits over top of his armor. I'm interested it to see if it fits all the way over the neck piece and rests on his shoulders...
  20. Thanks everybody! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And thanks to Masked Builder for the blog!! Thank you! I'm super-impressed with the precision of your work--I wished our projects hadn't overlapped, I'd have used some of your work as reference! I really like how flat your design is--you can't always tell from the scenes in the movie, but the model photos reveal how much wider and flatter it is that one might expect. TLG's Executor is quite fat (as you show) and mine is a bit chubby too. Ideally my side panels would be a stud or two wider, giving it a much shallower slope... but then to avoid going longer, I'd need to use the 2x4 wedges and I think that would mess up all my other angles. I may try it someday though! Anyway, thanks for the complements and I will certainly keep an eye on your work. That's quite nice! I did experiment with SNOT slopes, but ran into problems: either you use the 1x4 slopes (as you did) and make the ship closer to 3 inches in length (much too big) or use the 1x3 slopes and make it comically wide. I think I have a solution, check it out (it's the far one--you can see I built DFOL's too): It's a little ugly and I dislike using the white 1x1 round plate with hole, but it's spot-on for the size. So I guess it works! More pics: PS: I updated the first post with a few new photos, of the side and the underside.
  21. Executor, Vader's Star Destroyer by Pellaeon My take on Vader's flagship from The Empire Strikes Back: the Super Star Destroyer Executor. Nineteen kilometers from stem to stern, Executor is over 11 times the length of a typical Imperial Star Destroyer. It's time for Eurobricks' third Executor MOC in as many weeks! Others have gone big or gone accurate, but I've opted to go midi! TLG's 10221 is lovely, but at $400 and 4 feet in length, it's a bit impractical... this 22-inch version has taken me weeks and countless revisions, I'm pretty happy with the result. All photos are links to larger images on flickr. I need to take more and better pictures when I get a chance... I forgot to take any pictures of the bottom of the ship. Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy these photos! Serious question for the micro-scale MOCers: So here's a problem: my 2-inch "to scale" Imperial Star Destroyer is actually waaaaay bulkier than it should be because of its snub nose--it would be almost 3 inches long if the bow continued to a sharp point. I made a smaller Star Destroyer using two 2x4 wedge plates, but I'm not happy with it... What are the alternatives? Is there a way to build a 2-inch Star Destroyer with something other than those blunt-nosed wedge plates? UPDATE 13 JULY: Here are some more photos, now featuring the smaller Star Destroyer discussed on the second page of this topic. Photos are links to flickr, as always. Enjoy!
  22. I believe you, but I think because I took the picture, I just can't un-see the Star Destroyer's stand, which is clearly behind the planet. If I get a chance, I'd like to put a proper camera on a tripod and try to take two picture (one of both ships in focus and one of the planet) and composite them together... that's probably the best way to achieve the desired effect without doing a total photoshop job.
  23. George G - Barry Ropley - 1 point, wonderful vig and minifig. Oky - Liz - 1 point, great vig as well. Matn - Dane Peterson - 1 point, great minifig.
  24. sok117 - 1 point, great use of the Captain America head! Oky - Golden Eagle - 2 points, love the vig.
