DONE! Very impressive build! Perfectly on par to what Lego should finally turn into an official UCS set. Directions were great! I will probably add some more interior details only because my 6 year old son wants to add some snow speeder bikes, rappelling lines, and some "computer" screens. Hopefully, I can snap some pics tomorrow. Thanks again for all your efforts and kind generousity for sharing how to make this awesome MOC!!!

Started last night. If my last Bricklink order arrives before the weekend, I might have mine done by Sunday afternoon.

I think it will depend on how much more we see of it in Episodes 8 and 9.

Wow! Amazing job well done! This would be an awesome playset. It would be a day 1 purchase for me!

Thanks belcor! I started building the original Lego version and got the main body and primary wing sections complete and said to myself this thing definitely needs to be converted to all black. By that time I had seen Jangbricks all black conversion on youtube, and also how others had started to integrate the technic rotation disks into the design of the wings so you wouldn't have to pull technic pins in and out and to get the wings in the folded down position. I'd estimate the design is still 85% Lego's. I didn't really have to change too much with the interior wing structure, but I did have to change the wing connection point to below the the main floor level instead of above it. This prevented the bottom of the wing tips from interfering with the bottom areas of the hull and allowed the wings to rotate down to the position you see them. And WOW! I had not seen the youtube video you linked to of the full mini-figure scale shuttle and diarama on Jakku. That creation is simply amazing! However, as incredible as those creations are I would still prefer to have something like I got that represents the essential essence of the original craft, but is still "swooshable" and I can "fly" through the house recreating Star Wars adventures with my kids!

Oh my! That's right I had totally forgotten about that mini-figure scale MOC. I had to go back and find it. This is truly a work of art! So amazing!

Thanks brobert! I think Lego will probably one day redesign this set to an updated version that is more film accurate.

Thanks for the comments! I studied the images of Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle in the DK book Star Wars The Force Awakens Incredible Cross-Sections, because I kind of thought the same thing. Surprisingly, it's all black except for some of the transparent red pieces. I noticed the same thing with the very detailed Revell model and the die cast version from the Disney Store.

Finally got my Kylo Ren command shuttle converted to all black with red viewing port and folding wings. I think it turned out decent and is still very playable and swooshable! Started on it last January, but became addicted to Star Wars Battlefront for way too long after getting a PS4 at Christmas. Anyway with the recent release of Krennic's shuttle in mostly all black, I got inspired to pick up the black pieces from many Bricklink orders and finish my conversion of Kylo Ren's shuttle. I wish I could have gotten the red viewing port "fangs" to transition a little better into the top portion, but it still looks pretty good from a distance. Removing all the cross linked technic beams opened up a lot of room in the interior. I added two sets of the technic rotation joint disks to each wing and now they have three clickable positions for folding up and down. 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command ShuttleIMG_4497 MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr 75104 Kylo Ren Command Shuttle MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr Command Shuttles Comparison by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr Command Shuttles Comparison by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr

WOW! This is incredible! The instructions look great! I can't wait to build this! Thanks so much for all the effort you guys put into this project so we can all enjoy this AT-AT MOC!!!
-
That's why I want to build yours. The "instructions" are great! Just need to come up with the parts list and I'm doing it. I'm not good enough to come up with all the internal structure on my own or at least I don't have enough time with a 6 and 9 year old running around the house!
-
WOW! What an amazing MOC! I modded a 75054 last year to give the model a much more AT-AT look than the original. It turned out really great, but I was always disappointed with the size. Rasholnikov, your model is perfect sized. If someone comes up with the parts list, I'm building one for sure! It's awesome! Great work! 75054 MOD by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr

I'm not sure, but when you are riding in the cockpit of an AT-AT on Star Wars Battlefront and you switch between the cheek and chin cannons they do have two distinct sounds.
-
Yeah, looks like no chin guns and a much more tapered nose! Plus some mustard yellowish extended side panels. Don't like it right now, but I'm sure it will grow on me. LiLmeFromDaFuture, I went back through all your progress up to this point....truly amazing and inspirational! Incredible work, I applaud you.

I hate trying to put a round sticker on a round 2x2 tile. I can never get them centered perfectly!!!

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
mink66 replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Along with what others have been saying with the UCS sets geared more toward the 40th anniversary of Episode IV, I agree. However, I would love to see a UCS version of Kylo Ren's shuttle. I think the version they released in September is quite lacking. The wings don't tilt, there are no bottom "winglets", there is no red view port like in TFA and biggest of all, it's the wrong color. It needs to be almost entirely black to match what we see in the movie. I don't know if Lego was working with some early production sketches or what, but a revamp on Kylo Ren's shuttle would be very much appreciated. -
Great model but I'm surprised by the lack of the black and white striped arm details that are part of every other WALL-E toy I've ever seen. How could these be missed? I want to add these, but had no luck searching all the printed tiles and sticker sheets on Bricklink. Anyone got any other ideas?
-
Pre-ordered! Can't wait for September 1st!

Here you go Stait-Edge. Lots of interior panel pictures added to my flickr account. Side panels by Shawn Minkey, on Flickr

I made a lot of unnecessary bricklink orders simply because I wasn't sure what pieces were needed. So I've got a lot of extra light bley pieces. If I had to estimate I'd say $70 to $85.
-
Almost none of the head is original except for the way the sides attach. Zoom in on some of the head pictures and you can tell pretty well how viewport is constructed. You need some 1X2 inverted brackets to make it work. https://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?colorID=86&itemID=109305
-
Yes. The mounting technique was not changed. You can see the mounting of the head to the neck in Maus's first photo here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106861&st=25
-
Thanks AudiBobaR5-D2! That's the same way I felt when I saw Maus' modifications and just new I had to try and make a version based on his.
-
Hi Strait-Edge! Thanks and welcome to the forum! I wish I was more proficient on LDD so I could prepare some instructions and parts list, but unfortunately I'm not. I used the many great pictures Eurobricks member Maus also supplies in his Imgur albums which shows more of the internal structure and construction techniques than my pictures to build mine. Be sure to read through his posts, because again his MOD was the inspiration for my MOD! Just remember that once you get one side of the armor plating and head figured out, the other side is quite easy to construct since it is just the mirror image. If you do start to attempt this and get stuck in a certain spot, just let me know and I will try to clarify or add some additonal pictures.
