I think you forgot to carry the two!

Again, thanks for another great interview! Its really nice to know a little bit more about the people we run into on the forum almost everyday! I have to say that Green Hair is one of those who I am envious of because I dont think my building skill will ever surpass or even match his! I know there was a time when you were questioning if you still wanted to do these interviews... Keep it up! We all enjoy them! -Super

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I ASKED! I mean, I thought this was a simple question, I didn't know it could start such debate! Thanks for the info guys, 16 helps me out a lot more actually than 18. If it was 18, I would have been in a pickle!
-
So from end to end it is 18?
-
Is it really? I was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Off. Well, let the new MOC begin!

I am finishing with my new fort MOC, and I am in the design phase on my next MOC Can someone answer me a simple question? If you were to put the rope bridge on a baseplate, how much area would it cover? I know its four studs wide, but how many studs long is it? Thank in advance! -Super It looks like 17 or 18 in this picture? I'm assuming 18? Might be a dumb question, but better safe than sorry, right?!

Pictorial Review - 6273 - Rock Island Refuge
martinsuper replied to Lorentzen's topic in LEGO Pirates
I always liked this set because it was the only set that was predominately black in color. It looked very sinister, and also had the feeling of being a very old structure that the pirates had "taken over". I like this set a lot, its one of the few I don't have because I always focused more on ships. -
Looks way nicer! It is much more eye appealing and much less harsh. Almost like a black pearl?
-
Truly this are works of art. All my MOCs are nothing more than military function, but these are made for beauty.
-
Yeah, the next fort does have an interior. Mostly it will be used for magazines, spare cannon, tools, etc... Its nothing really ornate. Im building this next fort for function and "playability" rather than form. I'm about 95% done right now and am just waiting for a bricklink order. -Super

Maybe yes or maybe no? Its worth a shot to ask. I know how popular this set is with adults, so I can only imagine kids, who love mini-figs and cannons (like I did as a kid) love this set. The other things is that Cannon Battle costs about as much as a GI JOE, so now parents have a cheaper alternative to buy for kids that expensive LEGO sets.

Wow! A really neat MOC! Makes me want to check out the game!
-
So when am I going to see this thing?! When I turn 80 or what?!
-
Very nice MOC! At first, I didnt notice what the blood was, I automatically just thought blood. As always, love seeing the blue coats. I hope to have my next MOC done soon, and then I plan on making an invasion scene myself!
-
Now now! Without bad guys, my good guys wouldnt have much fun!!! I have to say that since Harbor Sentry, Cannon Battle its my absolute favorite set. The cannon is self-explanatory, the red coat is added to "invasion force", and I usually use the pirate as a crew man or dock-hand. He doesnt really look like a pirate to me as much as a worker. I always need plenty of Red Coats for some diaramas Im working on. I just file away the other pieces into my LEGO bins. It just would be extremely cool if blue coats same back and their was an updated blue coat set like this.

Three cheers for the good Admiral!

I like the mixed use crew. In the spirit of movies like Master and Commander, I try not to have an all uniformed crew, instead, only my Officers and Marines are in uniforms. I like to use a mixed bag of pirate torsos for crew. However, I do try to keep pirates with red striped shirts on red ships, and blue striped shirts on blue ships. It kinda makes it a little cooler for me, you know? I also have been using my old redcoats as ships marines, and my new red coats as land forces. I figure I won't be getting any more old red coats, so it made it an easier "mix" for me. All in all, I like the crew, especially mr. "top hat, sunglasses bandanna".

You know, I think its funny that you quote Perry, and yet he was a great killer of Red Coats! -Super
-
The red coats are bad guys and they get killed like bad guys. Please reference the film "The Patriot". End of story. -Super

I was taking the fort apart to make a new version, and I stopped to take a picture of the interior structure. A lot of time you don't see this, so I though, why not?

So, I made a plan that I would buy one cannon battle and one soldiers arsenal a week. Well my problem has been that Cannon Battle is always sold out at Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart's LEGO section is pretty sad, and usually they only have the island set, and sometimes the raft, but thats it. Target has a great LEGO section, but Cannon Battle is always sold out. So, I finally decided to go to Toys-R-Us. The only reason I usually dont go to them is because their prices are ALWAYS higher. For instance, Cannon Battle is 5.99 at Target, but 6.99 at Toys-R-Us. Soldier's Arsenal is 3.50 at Target, it's 6.99 at Toys-R-Us!!! So I went to Toys-R-Us and no surprise they had plenty of Cannon Battle. I told them about their high prices and they told me they would not price match. HOWEVER, they have a deal that if you buy $50 or more of LEGO they will give you $10 off. So, the manager told me to buy 10 cannon battles, and they would match Target and Wal-Mart's price. I don't know if I am the only one who has struggled to find Cannon Battle, but maybe this will work for you?!

Preference of Imperial Guard Epaulette colour
martinsuper replied to Peg Leg Pascoe's topic in LEGO Pirates
I usually use the LEGO standard colors. My black coats have red epaulettes because it looks better. I use some white epaulettes to make some distinction between some of my officers. Usually I give my ship captains white epaulettes. With my old school black coats, I still use brown epaulettes. Basically, whatever looks the best. -
Many armies of the era had non-officer epaulettes. I can recall the Mexicans doing as such. In the revolutionary war, Junior Grade Colonial officers would wear red (not gold for officer) epaulettes. For instance, a LT. might only have one epaulette on one side, where a captain would on both. It is fairly historically accurate to have non-gold epaulettes (which I believe is your bigger question?).

So when is the next building contest? I know it takes a lot of time and effort to make it happen, but some of us are jonesin' to build something!
