  1. LEGO Russia must be an interesting place. They often seem slightly out of step with the rest of the company.
  2. What? No ghosts??? I'm astounded!
  3. <3 Brilliant reference.
  4. There are a lot of good ideas I feel that are held back by the odd proportions and messy colour distribution. But the really good ideas definitely shine through that regardless. Like that sword hilt! I'll have to remember that one, it's a really nice idea!
  5. The product description labels them as specific types of masks, this isn't something we need an answer to, we already have one. They are all wearing masks.
  6. It's crazy how fast you've become one of my three favourite builders. I love your style so much. You're an inspiration. Those eyes are the highlight, easily, though I'm very fond of the front feet. I think you made the right choice with the back feet as well.
  7. Right? Those trans-orange masks had to be from something.
  8. It's a little funny to see people suddenly jumping at the 4chan rumours, considering the "new parts and leg armour from playtesting!" stuff came out after the first images of the Star Wars CCBS sets had shown, which means the believability there is entirely up to being out of sequence. "Thee rumour must be right, we've seen that piece" and stuff like that. Ekimu being a recurring character and giving the Toa their upgrades has been a common idea and theme in all speculation since the search for him was shown as part of this first year story. There's nothing here to corroborate the specifics of those rumours, there's simply the same stuff people all over have been saying. It's easy to make up a set rumour list and ideas when you've already seen parts from a later line (Star Wars) and fit it to the release plan (new Toa sets in winter, as that's when they first debuted) with the mask-maker giving the heroes upgrades (which is even something I remember posting about myself in the beginning of the year). But that's all we've got, the "other leak" with the names contradicts the "first leak", so they can't corroborate each other. Maybe we'll get ghosts, maybe we won't (I'm still leaning pretty hard into the "I can't believe anyone would believe this obviously not real stuff", but hey), but there's not remotely enough here for people to start being remotely certain with.
  9. I mean, I'll trade you ten clear masks of fire for one trans blue mask of water! :P The funny part is that I've never really tried to get exclusives or rarities? If I find them for cheap online, yeah, I'll pick them up, but the prototypes are all just because of Brickfair, and a lot of that is either stuff I won or was gifted. I just sort of accumulated a lot of it. I never fancied myself a collector, I never sought out to own a lot of these things! I don't even have a complete G1 2001 mask collection.
  10. I'm not counting or including any mask that was available in a mass-market release, or in a randomly assorted collectors mask box. So while I have most of (or all of?) the golden kanohi from G1 and all the current golden masks from G2, they were available to most folks, and nothing about them screams special or rare to me. That said, I've got a pretty solid list of stuff that either myself or my girlfriend (Nukaya from BZPower) own that is rare and special! 1x Silver Great Huna 2x Copper Huna 2x Dark Blue Noble Matatu 2x Dark Blue Miru with white swirl 1x White Miru with dark blue swirl 1x Silver 2008 Avohkii 1x Silver 2008 Axalara T9 Miru Nuva with clear spiked visor 1x Silver Berix/Ackar helmet 1x Carapar coloured Strakk helmet 1x Gunmetal Kraakhan 1x Silver 2008 Kaukau Nuva (still ugly) 3x Pearl Gold Kraakhan 1x Reddish Gold Avohkii 4x TNG Miru 8x Orange Vahi 6x Old Gold Vahi 1x WMKK 2x Light blue Kaukau 2x Yellow Kaukau 1x Brown Noble Ruru 1x Blue Noble Ruru 2x Red Noble Ruru 1x White Noble Ruru 1x Green Noble Ruru 2x Blue Noble Matatu 2x Green Noble Matatu 1x Red Noble Matatu 3x Brown Noble Matatu 4x Chrome Hau 1x Each of the Poisoned Hau Nuvas 2x G2 SDCC TNG Skull Scorpio mask in blister pack 2x G2 NYCC General in blister pack Clear Mask of Fire 2x G2 NYCC VIP LEGO Store Event X/100 Clear Mask of Fire in blister pack 32x G2 Trans-Orange Mask of Fire 1x G2 Trans-Orange Mask of Fire with solid center 80x G2 Clear Mask of Fire loose I also own a prototype Lehvak (complete with prototype black Krana) and a prototype Tohunga Matoro. And various other random prototype non-masks, but those are whatever, really.
  11. I like the names. They remind me of random fantasy names, like someone running a goofy D&D campaign.
  12. Technic. The pieces you're talking about are Technic parts, they are not the defining aspect of the original sets, which were the ball-and-cup usage they had wholesale taken from Throwbots. Both the original BIONICLE line, and the current CCBS-based one, are designed to integrate Technic parts wherever necessary. Technic parts are a vital part of both building experiences, and is a purposeful design move for both. It's more than a little disingenuous to keep saying the new line suffers because it "has to" rely on Technic for larger things, when that is what it was designed to do.
  13. There is no "BBS". The first BIONICLE series used a base Technic system and then random, assorted molds to make random, assorted things. It had no real "base", and no organization. It wasn't a system, as we're talking about CCBS, Technic itself, or even system bricks. It was just an amalgamation of parts that accrued over the years mixed with technic, simply because the line had debuted under the Technic label. Both the random BIONICLE parts and CCBS are subsets of the Technic building system, to say they "need" Technic to do more than their functions is silly, they're designed to utilize Technic connections at their base to expand outward. It isn't a flaw to say a system works as it was designed to be used. Amen and amen until the end of days. I've seen that MOC in person several times, and it's technically impressive, but the visual mishmash is disorienting and distracting.
  14. One of these days I'm going to get you and I in a room, with all the other BZP and BIONICLE reviewers, and we're going to teach them how to do photos. These are great.
  15. Psssst: CCBS is a subset of the Technic system- they are designed to work in tandem.
  16. There are officially 1500 of the NYCC masks, but only 800 of them were given out at the convention. The NDA group of BZPers was given a few hundred, and I'm not sure if the 100 from the VIP event were part of the 1500. But regardless, only 800 carded masks were given out, over a four day span, at NYCC. The SDCC mask is mentioned at nearly 1800 according to the SDCC pages, so it should end up cheaper in the long run. I still bought one for 35 on ebay when it popped up. That's cheaper than the con itself was for just Saturday (and I was going to pay that, since I currently live in SD, but missed the single-hour tickets were on sale for.) So it feels like a victory anyway.
  17. Well, that's certainly not true. I met several Russian AFOL fans at NYCC, we even had a joint BZP/RUSBIONICLE hangout at Central Park one day. It was pretty fun, they gave us Mask of Creation mask cutouts!
  18. I don't know. During the ramp up to last year's NYCC event, we talked a bit with some of the LEGO employees in charge of promoting the lines, and they sort of off-handedly mentioned that Hero Factory had become the best-selling theme in Russia, and that Russia's HF sales were higher than anywhere else. They seemed as baffled by it as we were. It's actually the reason that LEGO Russia sent a delegation of RUSBIONICLE fans to NYCC with LEGO Russia's money. They wanted to ride that popularity into BIONICLE 2015.
  19. Germany is actually the company's primary market for total sales. It outsells all other regions in total sales. Not percentage, but actual sales. North America is second. THAT SAID, the primary market for BIONICLE is indeed North America. And Hero Factory became Russia as the line went on.
  20. Are we ignoring that the product descriptions just calls them masks, for some reason? They are just wearing masks stylized like skulls. Seems pretty simple to me?
  21. Don't hold your breath for playsets, those were the single worst selling features of the original line.
  22. I don't remember hearing that either.
  23. Pretty sure BZP and EB both got their review copies sometime in the past week or two, which is par for the usual "monthish before release" date we usually get them in, as the official release still seems to be August for NA, and all the BZP and EB BIONICLE reviewers are in the USA. The early release in Europe took all of us by surprise, but they don't seem to be available in Denmark, which is where our review copies come from.
  24. That new add-on piece from the winter wave in more colours. Especially in black. And red. And blue. And green. And all of them.
  25. I am aware of the semantics, the point you made after is the same one I was making.
