  1. Lol Shadow Hunter. Well played. Lots of good stuff, look forward to dissecting it all after work =P.
  2. Yeah, I haven't been able to really get mine apart. I look at them as this generation's eyestalk/face combo =P.
  3. I put furry side down for whatever reason; I've always wondered about the "official" stance, but always forget to check after building because it doesn't really matter too much. Aaaa that's so adorable.
  4. Yes! Adds the most personality and meshes best with his color scheme.
  5. Mostly my feelings. It's not perfect, but it's new, inventive, and keeps his build nice and compact. I can see there being a tipping point in terms of too much Technic vs CCBS, but the 2016 sets have hit a solid balance.
  6. Nice to see some remarks from the designers, I always feel we need more of that.
  7. Actually, I think it's the other way around. This IS the "half a mask" thing they were talking about the entire time; we just didn't understand exactly what they meant because the specifics were saved for this book. My interpretation is that they were saying "in G1, there is a mask of time that is [physically] half a mask, and in G2, we will take that design concept and turn it into a story point", only not in so many words. Basically, for the Vahi to be the "bottom half", that would essentially require either an explicit set connection (i.e. a representation of a G1 object in G2 form) or for them not to include the lower half of the mask at all.
  8. And so continues the legend... of BIONICLE. I'm looking forward to picking them all up, sounds like a solid amount of worldbuilding going on. The chapter book, especially, told from a perspective other than the Toa will be refreshing.
  9. I'm not a huge fan, personally. One way or the other, I think the debate needs rest, because nobody is really going to settle for a wishy washy "well if you close your eyes and BELIEVE, it is!" answer. It's a cop-out, and makes them look more like they're deliberately avoiding the decision at all. Trying to appeal to all sides is much more likely to end up appealing to none of them. I'm totally okay if these sort of hints actually do lead up to something, one way or the other (I still think that this is a self-contained story point, meant as a vague reference to the previous gen without connecting it), but if it never amounts to anything, and the "bottom half" stays lost, that would be an enormous waste of potential.
  10. Yeah, it's interesting to see what they'll do with that. Then again, there's so many possibilities I don't know what to think. It could be an oblique "here is your connection if you want it" deal, it could be a future plot point (of which, then, how do they handle THAT? One half per wave? What about the MOUP? Unless that's ALSO this year?), it could be nothing at all and just another in a long line of teases they've doled out. Props to the team for being infuriatingly obfuscating. Edit: Vaguely related: The second graphic novel has an official title and synopsis: "Battle of the Mask Makers"
  11. Interesting... I really hope we see it in set form! (also they totally know what the lower half is... it IS the lower half, according to the GN itself :U)
  12. Oh, right, yeah. This guy is amazing. Get him. He's got a lot going on that you might not always use, but stupidly fun to play with anyway.
  13. Yeah, this is my worry too. I made very specifically to point out in my reviews that it's not the fault of the color, just the design of the sets =P. I can't imagine, what with their three-year plan, that they would actually change it radically next year, but still.
  14. Both are good, but I'd give the edge to Lewa and Uxar. Lewa beats Gali, at any rate, and I think their combined form is slightly better.
  15. 1. Uxar 2. Ikir 3. Melum 4. Akida 5. Terak 6. Ketar In theory Melum would be interchangeable with Terak, since the way they add mass is much the same, but Terak's purples didn't really jive with Umarak's green, despite the blacks to help meld more.
  16. Double checking it, you're right, they're the same size. I had compared it against Tahu's box which was entirely mangled by shipping, so my eyeballing was off. Now I know to measure the bottom backs against one another, to avoid confusion!
  17. Published my final review, Umarak the Hunter. A very, very good set.
  18. Not step by step, but close enough in my review gallery.
  19. That certainly is a good question. Given the previews people have posted, I'd guess an interquel of some kind? Since Vizuna witnesses the battle of the bridge, maybe they encounter LOSS after that and we can get some closure. It looks like the first GN is retreading the events of the animation too, so I'm also interested if the second GN is then an adaptation of the second book, or if it will barrel right ahead to 2016 (and then be an adaptation of Journey to One =P).
  20. Having got and reviewed them all, I'm going to say this year's Lewa and Tahu (and their respective creatures) will probably meet your standard, in terms of overall value of both combination and apart. Ikir makes up for Tahu's shortcomings in the color department, and Uxar looks super good on Lewa (whose weapons are still dopey, but growing on me). Both Tahu and Lewa have the necessary poseability to make them worth recommending. Onua is one of the best by himself (and certainly pulls of the color scheme better than all others) but doesn't have a good unity combination.
  21. I loved this set. Yeah, the build is really Technic-intensive but there's just so much going on. Plus, a stand! Seriously. Awesome. Plus, the part count should easily be worth it.
  22. Took me a while, but I finally got Gali and Akida's reviews up! Both very good sets, Akida in particular is exactly what I wanted from a creature set. I'll save my final list of rankings for when I'm done with Umarak, but in terms of Toa and creatures, from best to worst: 3-5 for the Toa are pretty interchangeable since they're all roughly as good as the next one, but Lewa's the standout. And the back half of the cretures are "meh" to "terrible", but the excellence of the first half more than makes up for it.
  23. I do miss the exaggerated proportions of 2015 Onua (who's still one of the best BIONICLE sets, nevermind the generation) but they did a good job in capturing the same sort of essence for this one. The drill spinning annoys me too, but overall it's a good weapon, and his color scheme is has one of the best distributions. Good review.
  24. (I swear, it's always the day AFTER I stop checking the LEGO Club site that these things appear...) Lots of interesting stuff there. Loving all of the unity poses, and Umarak is an intriguing presence. I don't think he's quite a labyrinth "guardian", but rather seeking out the creatures to find the location himself. Makes me wonder what exactly his end goal is.
  25. Good review. I didn't quite go for him; he looks good, but the function doesn't really hold up (literally...) and his combination with Onua is useless. Still, the armoring is top-notch, and some sets can certainly take lessons from that.
