I think they could tone the voice modulator down a liiiittle bit, but I like it as a stylistic choice. Also, Ekimu doesn't seem to speak that way for some reason? I'm glad Makuta got a shoutout anyway, even if he won't be seen. Animation is still looking fiiiine. Voices are serviceable, Umarak and Ekimu seem to have the best ones.

That whole debate is one area where I felt the fans were the ones digging unnecessarily. It should have been a simple answer; there isn't romance in the story because that's not what they were writing. Better just to rule it out entirely and make it easy to understand that it's a no go. But it's an issue that people would just not let drop. Obviously some poorly handled gender stereotypes peppered throughout the years didn't really help, but people pushed back hard against the whole idea. Wouldn't have been nearly as bad if everything ELSE wasn't so hyper-specific, like the number of islands, populations, etc. Umarak has his own "Nuva Symbol" of sorts, so likely not. Could be a fun concept, though.

He comes with a sweet trans orange blend of Umarak's hunter mask. Actually, it should be feasible to swap out all of Umarak's trans green parts and replace them with the corresponding orange...

I'm not a huge fan of that either, but the transparent Mask of Creation more than makes up for it. Plus, the trans blue dominant makes me think that maybe his Toa form is temporary, that it's some kind of energy boost.

Horrendous posing, but the sets themselves are still looking good. I was hoping Umarak's upper arms would be a little more... substantial, given that they have to hold up his massive claws, but we'll see. Loving the design overall. The beast head sculpts are really cool, it's some awesome texture and detail. Dunno what's going on with Quake Beast in that pic, but the others are looking fine, even Storm Beast and his weird hands. Ekimu is still pretty generic, but the color scheme is still rocking, and that mask... mmmm mm.

Even then, the original "Ask Greg" incarnations (the one from like, 2005 or whenever, and the one from 2007) were good; they were handpicked questions by the team that were submitted and returned with thought-out responses. I could get on board something like that returning.

Muscled near-digitigrade legs + talons + stubby arms + horns = dinosaur to me.

Latter-day canonization was pretty awful, but it's a good idea that got out of hand. We've seen some wonderful creations, both "official" and unofficial that would make cool additions to the storyline.

The problem with wildlife sets is that people want vastly different things, and nothing ever seems to quite satisfy. I thought this year's creatures did a great job at capturing that idea, personally, even if in-story they're basically the Pokemon equivalent of dragon types. Although, real talk, Umarak the Hunter is the best dinosaur set we're ever going to get.

Then people would go "but where's XXXX? he/she was my favorite!" at any given point. Look what happened with Hero Factory. The structure of set releases doesn't really support that kind of rotation, which is why G1 BIONICLE would replace entire teams.

I would think it'd be the reverse; with three years planned, the Toa appear for one final time in the winter of 2017, and then if they extend beyond that, that's when they can play slightly looser with the concept. I can't imagine we won't see the same pattern of Heroes/Villains next year.

This was actually intentional; even though the advertisements tend to show Umarak uniting with the creature as simply as the Toa do it, you're meant to take the trap halves for Umarak's specific shadow trap that gets made with the extra pieces before uniting them.

Who knows? Not likely, because leap years, but we were only ever given a February release time; they could easily have projected end of February internally, and then have to push it back a weak for a simultaneous release or something. As for the "season" thing, I suppose it almost always depends on the audience for the show. If they don't think it's worth doing another season, they won't, but that will be a discussion between Netflix and LEGO. They may have purchased another series ahead of time, but do we even know if this series is going to cover everything or not? Could easily be like the HF episodes, where everything gets covered at once.

Even if it ends up premiering February 29th in the US? =P

I think it's possible that the place was built by somebody other than the Mask Makers or the creatures. We don't know exactly when the Mask Makers came about, or how they acquired their own masks (although I suppose they could have made them themselves =P), so whoever made them (and the Mask of Time) probably had a hand in naming these places. Could very well be the beasts themselves too, of course.

Sure, there's plenty of things that cycle from hype to disappointment to acceptance, it's just the immediate snap judgment people pass tends to rub the wrong way. Especially when people are making uninformed or biased comments. It's difficult with a medium like LEGO, where oftentimes you have to actually experience it for yourself to inform a sound opinion. Obviously it's not limited to the sets themselves, though. Look at the Graphic Novel; people slammed the few preview pages we got, but it was a complete reversal of opinion once the book actually came out. Then, as time goes on, people's opinions change even further. I'm not going to argue that BIONICLE G1 was perfect, but to hear people talk now, it was disastrous and awful. It's just sort of how these things go.

It's here, but great find! Vague acknowledgement of the power-up forms as being canon? I'll take it.
-
Are we arguing for shaped or for filled? It's such a bizarre, inconsistent argument anyway; sometimes people want more humanoid proportions, but also unrealistic back shapes? 2015 had gears on the back, 2016 has it on the waist. I'm fine with whatever, personally, as long as the build informs the play well. 2016 does a fabulous job of that with the various features.

I get the feeling that they will have to. The creatures sound pretty... territorial. Of course, whether they're that way A. in general, B. mistaking the Toa for Umarak, or C. under Umarak's control all remains to be seen (or some combination of the above). But I think there will be some sort of conflict between them at first. Although I'm wondering what the pacing of the episodes will be like; all of the clips we've seen look like they take place at the Labyrinth of Control, so maybe there's just one episode devoted to taming the creatures? They probably won't overthink that too much; Tahu will presumably create fire from nothing, so rather than the ill-defined mechanics of G1's elemental powers, I think they'll just use whatever looks good.

Is It Still Worth Getting The 2015 Toa?
Dorek replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in LEGO Action Figures
My personal favorites from the year are Onua (one of my favorite BIONICLE sets, period), Tahu, Protector of Earth, and Protector of Water, and Skull Basher as well as the aforementioned MMvsSG from the summer side. I would say some of the 2015 Toa are worth getting for the diversity alone; while 2016 has done a great job in the build department, the core parts are the same, so there's a lot of similarity. 2015 had more personality for each individual Toa, although the three smaller Toa (Gali, Lewa, and Pohatu) are generally not worth your time in terms of features and construction. -
I'm thinking the jaws are attached to the mask knocking off feature, since it looks like they have eyestalks in addition to transparent heads. Better than being completely fixed... but not by much =P.

I did see that! I wasn't sure if it was a Skull Spider or a regular villager, though. I don't think the repercussions are that massive, necessarily; Skull Slicer was allegedly resurrected by a Skull Spider, so it wouldn't surprise me to see that sort of idea repeated for other Skull Creatures. I'm mostly excited that the Skull Army isn't quite as defeated as we would assume.

That would actually be super neat. Not quite sure that's what it is, though, but... maybe? It looks like he has a tail of some kind, and his horn configuration is different. Most mysterious! Anyway, animation is looking super slick. The character models and fluidity are top notch; and the little details, like Umarak taking a second to charge up his weapon rather than just lasers flying everywhere, have me very confident.
-
Yeah, definitely not in for the jaws. Lava Beast and Umarak make it look good enough, but the other two... eh. Maybe they'll be better in hand, we'll see. Lava Beasts overall design is actually probably my favorite.

If anything, don't you think Storm Beast would be a corruption of Melum, since it has Kopaka's mask? I do note that they picked the three largest Toa to have corrupted masks, rather than the strange four we got last year. And who knows, maybe this year they'll actually be "corrupted", and Umarak will control some of the Toa. I think I'd prefer them as new beasts, but it sort of depends on how they play into the story.
