1. Regarding FBTB / EB: way back when, when I got into SW and felt like discussing it, I Googled Star Wars LEGO. Obviously FBTB was top of the list, more focussed, has has a way cool name. You have to admit that SW fans make up quite a percentage of EB's membership so it therefore stands to reason that FBTB would gain more members. That said, they're also very good at putting off members, who tend to gravitate here. Perhaps with the new SW section, we'll gain greater proninence and things will change.
2. I meant like the seat thing in the background of Locke's vignette. Edit: sorry, from a different view I see that its his wheelchair. Now you need a 'plane wreck and a Hatch
3. Long standing? :-D I've only been a member for a year or so and don't post half as much as I'd like. Besides, I sit when I surf, most of the time. Anyway, paid this morning when I got home from work.
4. OK, I like what you;re doing since I too love Lost (as an aside, I'm a member of one Lost forum where one of the members uses a LEGO Leia as her avatar). I don't understand the relevence of some of the scenery, though.
5. There was recent review of the new Boba Slave 1, which was way better than I could do.. And I think the new X-Wing. I'll gladly review Jango's Slave I, though, since that was the SECOND set I bought :-D As originally planned, later in the week, though. Not too many too soon.
6. Got a digi camera, but any photo's I take of LEGO come out with really poor light or focus or something. My classic flatbed scanner doesn't work so well on LEGO models. Maybe one day I'll get one of those new-fangled next-generation 3D scanners. Thanks for good feedback. What kit would you like me to review next?
7. First review. Constructive criscism welcomed. Let me know if you'd like me to do more and if so what of. Hope you enjoy it!
7103: Jedi Duel
From Episode: Two Year of release: 2002*** RRP: $10.00*** Pieces: 81*** This was the very first SW set I bought. It sparked my re-interest in LEGO and therefore will always be a significant set to me personally. I bought it on the 1st of November, 2003 in Forbidden Planet in Cardiff. I know the date so well because it's on my driving licence as I got caught speeding on my way to buy it (pure coincidence
8. OK, it seems like I don't contribute all that much to EB (busy boy) but I think I have a few set reviews that I wrote over a long period of time on my hard disk. I concur that we don't have enough reviews available. SW is certainly my thing. SO, here's what I suggest: Members post what set they'd like a review of. I'll endeavour to review it, if I have it (I have most). I won't do them too often, maybe just oen or two a week so as to promote discussion. I think too many reviews too quickly means they just get overlooked. Doing it this way may mean some pleasent recall of buying the set, rather than looking for specific reviews. This regularity is also because I'm a Busy Boy (I think I mentioned). However, things to bear in mind: - I won't be posting photo's. Dial-up connection, poor photography skills and being a Busy Boy - I don't pretend to be any good, though I will be honest. Once I post the first one, discussion may then generate more detail on certain aspects anyway. What do you all think?
9. I'll have another if there's one left.
10. Excellent. May the force-um be with us!
11. SO, if we were forced into a choice between continued quality reduction or increased prices to keep quality up, what would it be? Obviously we'd prefer optimum quality at continued (or redcued) prices, but as well know, likfe doesn't work that way. Me, I'd rather pay a little more, though not much more.
12. Semi-agreed. Yes, this 90+ page thread is a tad excess. I wonder if maybe just two pages wouldn't do it justice. I think a MOD should skim through it and make it several topics, for easy discussion.
13. When I saw the title, I knew straight away that it was an April fool. Predictable, sorry. Also, you shouldn't have revealed it in the first post. Keep more gullible folk going for a while. Got class in the morning. I am SO going to wind my students up. Tell them that for various reasons of syllabus modernisation, anyone under Brown Belt is going to have to go back to White Belt again :-D .
14. Just give us an overview of each years' sets. Do the Battle Packs / GG Fighter / AT-St / Y-Wing count as 2006 or 2007? IIRC, they were sceduled for release in January, but many of us started getting them in December.
15. If I'm right, the "male" part is three plates tall (one brick tall), whereas the "female" part is six plates (two bricks) tall. Sorry, I've not actually used these measurements before. Am I making sense? Yoda: why do you have find fault in EVERY new set? Be grateful that we've got these new sets at all. Maybe your standards are too high? What figures are we getting with each set? RC: Obi-Wan, Qui-Gom green astromech, two staff (who - senate pilots) Hoth: how many Snowtroopers, rebels, etc? How many probe droids? K-3PO? Luke and Dack? What else?
16. Fair enough, but what do you do when you're out of ranks at 2000 posts? We have members who are way past that and a few who'll be there soon. Posting frequency is quite high and we don't want to maintain, I dunno, 100 different ranks (which?!) just to please members every 100 posts. We want members to stay around longer and high limits are supposed to be an incentive to continue contributing longterm. No, no, no. Ranks get increasingly harder to reach, just like most belt systems in Martial Arts (see my previous post). So you might get three rank promotions in your first 100 posts, but there might not be a rank promotion between 1000 and 2000 posts. In the organistion for which I teach, you can typically get four belts in your first year of training, if you work hard enough. Then only two the next year, then yearly. I'm at the point of there being years between my grades. I completely agree that ranks shouldn't be taken seriously and what's worth more - 100 pointless posts or 10 meaningly, productive ones. BUT ranks can ben fun and act as incentives, especially when privilages are attached.
17. FWIW (which isn't a lot, really) I'm a member of several forums (all bar this one are Martial Arts forums) and this forum has the slowest rank-increase system of all of them. This is NOT at all a criticism - everyone does things differently and sees different merits in different post-counts. Just an observation. I personally like having more ranks. They're fun, nothing more. I certainly don't put any importance on them, but its nice getting a new rank symbol that's just a little recognition of dedication and input. I'll post on here at the same rate whether I get a new rank every ten posts or every ten thousand posts. Just as a point of interest, an example of how Martial Arts forums often works. Along the lines of: Newbie = White belt 10 posts = yellow belt 20 posts = orange belt 50 posts = green belt 100 posts = blue belt 200 posts = purple belt 350 posts = brown belt 500 posts = Black Belt and so on, with various honorifics, generally reflecting teaching or political status (e.g. 1000 posts = Renshi (a teaching qualification) or 2000 posts = Daimyo (a Samurai retainer) So, more ranks, quicker promotion. This is my personal preference.
18. Thats cool. Thanks for responses. Money and space prevent me from looking into this theme any closer, but I like what I read and see.
19. While browsing Woolworths last week, my attention was drawn to an Exo Force set and it got me thinking. I make no attempt to hide that my LEGO love is Star Wars, and I've enjoyed a bit of Batman, but the EF line looks interesting. Now, tell me if I'm typing rubbish, but isn't there a back story to EF - like goodies vs badies. Each character using a machanical exo-frame to do war. So, presumably there's a back story to it all. Please enlighten me.
20. I was thinking about this on Friday in Woolworths, whilst marvelling at an exo-force set and an Aqua Raiders sets. Both were sub
21. Happy Birthday
22. Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard
23. Cool, Vader BUT how to make it even better: Read Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter and put the minifig in a training session against simulation droids.
