I guess the Bothans have failed this time. :) -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
rollermonkey replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I chuckle a bit whenever I see people hating on the Twilight... In the show, the ship was as ugly as sin. Did anyone really expect TLG to make a silk purse from a sow's ear? It's ugly on the show and ugly in bricks. Sounds accurate enough to me. ;) What surprises me most is that on top of decent accuracy, it's pretty close to full minifig scale. All those early sets are so bad... You have to wonder if the designers assigned even cared about the movies. Nowadays, we know those designers are SW fans, so they give it a lot more effort. -
Very accurate to the source. Is that an album cover?

Hah! I think we better get a thaum reading on the Librarian. Is it sad I knew what it was going to be from the first ook?

Oh, wow! The 2 studs added in the back are really subtle! Very nice, all around. Am I the only person using the clips in the troop bay to hold the extra missiles?
-
I'm impressed at what a huge improvement just 4 studs longer is. Did you take the wheels out though?

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What if: Hoth Echo Base is indeed an Ewok Village type playset, and the UCS is separate (which has been whispered), and turned out to be an AT-AT much bigger than the system one, but smaller than Cavegod's amazing beast? I don't think they could make more AFOL happy than with that one-two combo. (OK, a $500 Cloud City the size of the Death Star would probably be just as popular with AFOLs.) Best part (to me) would be that all these Rebel Snowspeeders would finally have a properly scaled opponent. :) -

Double check your build. That doesn't sound like you assembled it right. TIE wings are usually locked in pretty well. There's usually a step to move clips in place for secure fitment. Just peeped the instructions. These are different than the last two. Are the red and blue clip parts all the way connected? I really don't think the wings would be so heavy to unclip 4 clips per wing all at once. -
None of them fit on 8T gears or beveled gears. The chain will not connect directly to the treads, not sure if the treads are compatible, I only have the most recent. The chain is pretty small, so you wouldn't be able to move anything too large or heavy. I've seen the treads used as conveyor belts on numerous MOCs.

I wasn't familiar with this mosque before. At first I thought you were trying to represent the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, but I'd forgotten that one has 6 minarets. Then I thought you'd misspelled Suleymaniye Mosque, but the 4 minarets surround the courtyard, not the dome there. I knew it wasn't Hagia Sophia, the shape is all wrong. That's what I get for having not made it out of Istanbul on my visits.

My attempt to make the Tydirium Shuttle 75094 a bit more slick
rollermonkey replied to Schwizzle's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't mind some studs as much as I dislike seeing plate bottoms. Here's my take on streamlining the wings: The side wings aren't noticeably wider than the vertical fin: More importantly, it doesn't introduce sag, and might actually strengthen the wings a bit. -
I'll have to wrap my capitol building in cobwebs to correctly represent the lack of any real accomplishment occurring within. ...and that, despite not being particularly amazing from an Architecture perspective, sounds much better than a pico-scale cityscape.

75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters Discussion
rollermonkey replied to kelceycoe's topic in LEGO Licensed
Robie House from the Architecture line had 771 1x2 dark red plates out of 2276 total parts, (plus another 268 1x1 dark red plates!) and this was indeed used to represent the brickface of the building. -

That sounds barely big enough to hold the minifigs. -
I built this the other night. I like everything about it except the top-mounted shooters. When the film comes out, I wouldn't be surprised if there's nothing there, or at least much less obtrusive. The new Stormtroopers, though...

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The original source was an employee at the London LEGO store. It blew up from there out of rampant speculation, hope and wishful thienking. Since then, I think we've gotten mixed signals between the UCS and the Hoth Attack set. I would not be surprised either way if the set turns out to be anything from an A-wing to a Z-95, a Hoth base to replace the Ewok Village on shelves, or even a repackaged Death Star with updated figures. -

It sounds, much like the Cantina, you could combine two of this set fairly easily and make a fully fleshed out scene -

Is it just me, or is the breakdown of left-handed and right-handed shooters (per the instructions) wildly inaccurate? :D I suspect a left-handed designer at TLG is messing with the ratio. -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Here we go... The rumors thread devolving into the shopping lists thread. Again. Preliminary images, people. That means placeholder figs are very likely, and most often whatever was handy. Probably won't get the UCS Boba in the Freezing Chamber, Rebels STs standing in for new prints, etc. -
Sounds awful. Are these supposed to be about architecture or geography?
-
Um... It's nice, but did you really need a 2nd new topic for the same vehicle 3 days after the first?
