Heroica RPG - Quest #62: Insider Trading
Dannylonglegs replied to Dannylonglegs's topic in The Heroica Archive
So has the Party reached a consensus? A, B., or C.? -
Newtity makes everything better! (and you're one to talk. your quest was about a kid turned into a frog. He can use Karie's scroll, by the way .) Anyways, excellent Quest Kintobor! This is one of the ones I followed. The plot was easy to follow (unlike mine it would appear. ), the fights were well balanced, and the puns were delicious. As were the characters. The three skeletons were a crack-up! Great Job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Well, we already got to the meat of the story... In fact, we've been dealing with the Head(s) now for more than half the time. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

OoC: Maybe. If you go down too many dead ends. I'm not sure if were-frogs count as vermin though. Nessa Anárion (herrJJ) 59 years old female elven Ranger Level 11 Power: 18 (Lvl. 11 + WP: 7) (20 vs. Werefolk) (21 vs. Aquatic Vermin) Defense: 1 Health: 17/17 Gold: 0 Equipment: Silver Crossbow with Raven-Slayer Bolts and Newty Mag. (WP 7 (+3 vs. werefolk (removable) (+4 vs. Aquatic vermin (removable) (usable by ex-Amphibians only))), Leather Armour (SP: 1), Inventory: Smoke Bomb, Bedroll, Magic Compass, Venom x2, Mead, Potion x2, Croise Bow (WP: 6) (usable by Rangers), Smelling Salts, Bone I just need a letter to send you down a path. The Maze isn't too hard. If you'd like more description of one path or another (there aren't going to be many clues in this I'm afraid) all you gotta do is look around. -
Don't worry, Sylph can help! Or he could... If he weren't stuck in combat for the next few weeks. ~Insectoid Aristoctrat

I'd like to see a Sorcerer (or Witch) Karie turn him into a Newt. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I figured as much. I'd like to see them holding an election for their new Dictator and secret Boss. Can't wait for that. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Let me guess, Progg 0 is the Mythrogg. (Don't tell me if I'm right though it could be just as easily not... But we've killed everyone else.) ~Insectoid Aristocrat

It's all that Newtiness still on its way out. but, yeah, I have that too. It's not as creamy a white. Perhaps the effect of the rain rinsing it off? . But yeah, If Fleur makes it out of this the same as she is now, she's definitely going to be a recurring villain type. Different first name each quest. Maybe not your traditional recurring evil and obviously-illegal super-villain, but a legal-but-at-large type. A morally-bankrupt rich person with a hand in many pockets type. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Of Course. Wow, didn't realize Alisa was an anagram of Alias until just now. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

You make a valid point. Perhaps the reason I disagreed somewhat was the example you used. In my opinion, "Hits" make for valid Quests, and I believe we've had some. (we've had allot of quests, so I'm simply assuming. I didn't pay attention to every single one of them.) Actually, 50's like that. I just don't think the choice should be blatantly evil. Of course the one hiring hitmen to whack a target have a reason for it. Said person killed his father, or said person has threatened her life... but I don't think that stating explicitly, "This Person has interfered with my evil plans." is a valid reason to hire the PCs. If you want an Evil Quest, the Evil person can provide a biased reason: one that's not exactly a lie, or even a lack of truth but certainly a one-sided reason. (Ie: This person assaulted my lab and made away with valuable information. I can't have him spreading it or using it for himself. Please kill him for me. Sincerely, Madproff McEvilson.) But I don't think (I want this perfectly respectable purer-than-god-herself Business Tycoon Philanthropist, who I view as my rival and who's legitimate goody-two-shoes-iness and Orphan fostering is interfering with my shady dealings and harvesting of their organs, to be killed. Sincerely, Alisa Beyland) or (Patricia's a bitch and she stops me from stealing what I want to steal, please kill her for me. Hugs and Kisses, Wolfcub666) would get the Veteran's approval. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Not enough Newtity. (Tragically I don't have Karie's body or head, but I do hope to acquire them. ) ~Insectoid Aristocrat

OoC: To be clear, Nessa's compass does know where the final destination is... It just can't tell you how to get there. -
Exactly. To be honest, my quest is somewhat similar to yours, only the sides are reversed. In the Hinckwells' defense though, they're allot more open about it, and they make it sound prettier. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

The Party, battered, bruised, muddied, bloodied, and drenched, left the scene of the Necromancer's fall, leaving with new items and emotions, but leaving behind some mementos as well. At 4:29, the Party had fled the Mob. At 4: 34 they fled the Mobsters, at 4:39 they started the fight with the Necromancer, and now, at 4:46, they were finished. by their best judgements, they could determine that they had a 15 minute run ahead of them. They'd be there with only moments to spare before the ship left, assuming it would depart on time, which, in this weather, was something of a stretch. As they ran, glancing to and from the map and Nessa's compass, they realized that the road they were taking dipped away from the bay slightly, and that they could shave five or seven minutes off their journey if they cut through the side roads. observing an opening, Nessa directed the Party into an alley. They ran on for another two minutes before the road broke into three distinct pathways. Nessa's compass couldn't help them. It was probable that each dead-end would add 2 minutes to their estimated arrival-time of 4:53 (ish), meaning that they could only afford three mistakes. A___________________________B.______________C. A was opener, with a similar stone wall to the paths they've been used to in Brendenton. The furthest into B. they could see was a wooden wall, and C. seemed to turn back up, slightly. Which route would the party take? The Red Dot is the Destination. I will move the Party along when I get a bolded Letter from the Party Leader. -

"Alright. Let's take this round easy. Alex, you seem to still be lucky. Let's have you deal with the regret. I'll take the round to heal those who need it. Aquos, you're up to bat." Order: Punii: Mix Jellies Sylph: Heal Hal, BR Sylph: Heal Aquos, BR Elgar: Grand Potion Rome, BR Galen: Grand Potion, BR Rome: Apply Deadly Venom to Combrys, BR Hal: Scepter, BR Johon: Red, BR Aquos: Blue, BR Alex: Regret, BR -
I agree that Bad Quests should exist, but I think that they should not be quite as blunt as you make it. Heroica is not a common mercenary organization in that regards. Heroes usually stick to a moral code of some sorts, and if the act they were hired to do was explicitly vile, I think the Veterans would turn it down. That said, Quests leaning on the darker side of morally ambiguous are excellent ideas. The objective of my quest is rather explicitly to help a massive organization enact a monopoly problem-free, and while both sides are simply in it for the money, a very convincing idealistic case could be made against the Hinckwells' actions in this. Not to give anything away, but Fleur will not be moralizing with the Party. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"Irony is certainly one of Humanities greatest inventions, but I'm afraid that you and your kind shall will not destroy them. Not today. Not ever." Stated Sylph sternly and powerfully. OoC: I'll post a battle order in about an hour and a half: when I get back from work. -

The ends always justify the means. He shall accomplish his goal if it means starting a wildfire that would consume the entire world in its fiery clutches... to be overly dramatic of course. He would definitely not do that. Also, IMO, the monsters in the field are all mutated by magic and mumbo jumbo (like allot of things in this world) and would probably reek havoc on any natural ecosystem if they were released into one. Once you go newt, you change your route. ~Insectoid Aristocrat
