Introducing Captain Edgehead
Commodore Hornbricker replied to Edgehead's topic in Hello! My name is...
Welcome aboard mate! Always good to have another pirate to chase around the seven seas. -
I am 36 so my sense is that puts me up there....but not at the top!

Pirate Tic Tac Toe - Cheap Part Alert
Commodore Hornbricker replied to Apache's topic in LEGO Pirates
I only bought one TTT so I could see what the figure looked like. I can't wait to get it so I can compare. -
I don't want to imagin the cost either! I have found when you buy big orders of white bricks from BL you can be sure that you will get plenty of yellowed, chewed on narled white bricks in your order. Some folks go to great lengths to clean up their bricks to make them look new again. I love a little distress in my white, especially when you use a lot of white together. It provides some contrast and realism especially for a caribbean setting of the pirate age. Finally I have been known to chew a brick and hack a brick a little when needed and to leave them outside in the dirt and sun for a few weeks! Well your port is huge. Mine is massive My plan is to have the port on three 4'x8' sheets of plywood and then have a forth that is painted blue (like you did) that I can pull out just when I want to take photo's of ships and such. I'll save my blue plates for inland water ways. I had planned to have some docks as you do (not nearly as big) that I can set on the water but then put away in a box so as to save on room. It will take up half my garage when it is finished. But I hope to be working on the port for the rest of my days!

General A's Big Bluecoat Army
Commodore Hornbricker replied to General Armendariz's topic in Pirate MOCs
Nice! Now you have yourself I very nice army. Don't forget to feed and water them regularly. Taking care of many minifigures can be such a burden. -
That was great. I loved how you tied your story into the current happenings on Classic-Pirates. Very well done!

Funny. I assume it is called "Chicken Surprise" because Bluecoats are chicken and so they like to spring traps?

Nice Skipper. I know I feel like killing myself every time I hear Jar-Jar's voice!

Yes the walls will be angled in at the guns. The battlements futherthest away in the photo are already done that way but they are hard to see from that far. Funny...But yes there will be large open area in the center for the troops to muster. Not nearly as open as it is now as most of the interior walls aren't in yet. The straight walls will all have battlements as well so they'll come in 10-12 studs when completed. There will be stables. A roomy prison (think Horatio Hornblower the Dutchess and the Devil). A few more buildings. Finished barracks. A magazine, storeroom, mess hall, and of course my office and quarters which will come last. That would be great. It is a caribbean fort.

I knew the main elements I wanted to build would each be on one 48x48 plate. Those being the four corner batteries with sloped walls. I knew I wanted to use the technique from Fort Branco to build the sloped walls. I knew I wanted the walls in between the batteries to be made from 2x2 bricks. I did a few sketches to get a rough idea of the overall layout. Originally I thought it would be on 9 plates (making it square) but once I started I realized I wasn't going to be able to include everything I wanted so I expanded it to 15 and made it rectangular. Basically I knew early on I was going to needs thousands of 1x2 and 2x2 and 2x3 in white. I took me several months of dwelling on the idea before I began to actually build. The yellower the better when it comes to building old pirate building with white bricks...In my opinion.

Post 25 on second page contains an Update on August 31, 2009 Post 38 on third page contains update on January 6, 2010 Well since I have been talking about it for a while, I thought I'd give you a glimps of what I am working on as it will most likely be some time and many changes later before it is done. Fort Monk sits on 15 48x48 plates. This will give you some idea where I am headed. It will be home to 40 guns and hundreds of Redcoats.

Nice introduction. Welcome. I look forward to seeing your reviews and MOC's.

At first I couldn't find the goats and I was wondering what those little grey and white things were. Then it came into focus. Very clever...they really do look like little goats.

Unfortunately one of the downsides to being a redcoat is with all the red and white clothing occassionally something red sneaks into a load with something white and presto it....pink underwear. I understand how lesser bluecoat men find that intimidating but us redcoats are very confident in our masculinity. Besides your wife thinks they look great on me The cannon and explosions and flying bodyparts look excellent! They probably didn't want your tractor to leave an oil stain on their pretty decks.

WOW. That was very funny and cool how you used some new ideas (pot belly guy and sushi dice). You didn't pull any punches with this one! Well done!

The aditional pictures are great. I just love the massive docks. I have something like that envisioned for my port but I had never imagined it on that scale. It looks so darn good. If you ever get to changing around your fort you ought to give the 1 x 2 leaning back wall method a try. I used it on all five of my main batteries and it turned out great. 1 x 2 are so much cheaper and easier to get than all those 75 degree slopes....then you can use all those slopes for rocks and cliffs. Can't wait to see more! You and I are going to be going on and on about our ports for year's indeed!

That is so true. It took me hours to set up my Naval warehouse MOC only to snap a few pictures and then put the figures all back into storage. But I still want new Bluecoats! 100's of em!

Salasos Castle (Still in progress)
Commodore Hornbricker replied to castlestrike666's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's a beautiful layout and more than just a great start to what looks like will be a fabulous castle. Can't wait to see it develop further. -
Awesome. A gift shop would be cool. Probably a lot of worh though.

That made me laugh harder than anything so far! Well done. The part about the anchor and the square cannon and the idea to tie in all the Bluecoat MOC's so far as having backfired was truely inspired! Way to go. Very strong

Maybe he forgot to mention its all you can eat horse night. Bluecoats...Its what's for dinner!

She is gorgous! All I can say is when do you start taking orders? I love the way it looks and the fact that she is a 64 is awesome. My very favorite size ship. You are definately one of the great ship builders!
