WIP The Making of a Fleet
Commodore Hornbricker replied to Commodore Hornbricker's topic in Pirate MOCs
Good news. Things are progressing here too. I'd hate to think my fleet had nothing to chase down and sink! More pics soon. -
WIP The Making of a Fleet

You ain't kidding but what's life without a little challenge...frustration...poverty Here is a great link for anyone looking for ship names from the Napoleonic era. Ships of the Royal Navy 1974 -
Nice job. It looks like it's right out of LOTR....and the rock is pretty cool.

What a nice MOC. I like the colors. You just don't see them often in the castle world but it makes perfect sense in your Turkish setting. The best part are all the neat details and spaces you created like the well and the little stand...poor parrot! You even have some aftermarket sheep! Great job and good luck with it!

Absolutely! I figured I needed a lot of ships to chase La Mort Royale around the Caribbean -
WIP The Making of a Fleet

Me too! The photos represent a weeks worth of progress so they are moving forward. I am glad to be getting past the lower sections as they are a lot of work and parts and not much to look at by way of reward. The next phase should be more fun. I added more bricks and plates than the original plans called for so they are pretty strong especially the individual tumble home sections as I laid an extra layer of plates behind them to lock them in place so they do not easily come off. -
Lego pigs....FINALLY. I hope we get goats next!

Shown in the picture are 2 smaller frigates (5 hull sections each) 30s - 40s in terms of guns. Two heavy frigates (7 hull sections) 50s - 60's guns. One smaller ship of the line (9 hull sections) 70's to 80s guns and a Sloop of war (3 hull sections - narrow smaller hulls) 12 - 18 guns. The sloop will be called the Hotspur in honor or the Horatio Hornblower sloop of the same name. The others do not yet have names so any suggestions are welcome. Not pictured is another frigate sized ship (5 mid sections) on the red hull plates and another sloop class ship on the white hulls. I am planning a third sloop class as well but the small hull plates are hard to come by. Of course I am also reconstruction Captain Green Hair's La Mort Royale so it will be pretty impressive I think when finished. I am using Captain Green Hair's build a frigate manual and five of the six ships shown are up to or nearly up to the point where I have to make some color decisions on the sides of the ships. The ship of the line is a little further behind as I need more 2x black plates. The suckers really eat plates like you wouldn't believe but I am pleased with how the shapes and lines of the ships are looking but any feedback from the expert ship builders would be happily accepted.

I missed this MOC the last couple of days. It is a really nice larger set for your theme. It turned out wonderful. I love it. I can't wait till it is all done. Keep it up.
-
Awesome. I love a good hideout. I love your theme. They should buy you out or put you and staff!
-
It all depends on the size of the MOC and what I need. most of the time it seems like I am spending in the $100 to $200 dollar range per MOC but it can be 10 small orders or one big order. I try to get as much as I can from one dealer but that is almost never possible with the quantities I usually need. I also usually over order on quantities to be safe and to grow my collection.

Yee-Haa! He's at it again. The theme just keeps improving. Nice to see some bandits for the troops to chase around. Great job it looks fabulous.
-
That's a LOT of blue base plates and those things aren't usually cheap. I will be happy to see them come back as I am glad to see you again. Seems like its been a while.

Cool. I really like your water wheel.

That's cool. Good idea.

Lego pirate brickfilm tale of the haunted seas!

That was excellent. I really enjoyed watching that. Thanks -
Very nice. I am a big fan of the sloop and especially the sloop of war. I am building one now as a matter of fact. You did a great job.

Welcome. Always nice to have a fellow Commodore to play a hand of whist with or enjoy a pint of rum. Captains and Admirals can be sooo boring sometimes Great introduction. I could smell the salt air. I hope you enjoy your time here. As to your space issue all I can say is I have a lot more room than I had in my dormitory days but alas I fear one never has enough space...because... space is for filling and Lego are pretty good at doing just that. Just enjoy doing what you can with what you have and never stop aspiring for your dream Lego room. Life changes quickly and oneday you might just find you have achieved it! Let's see, I like Lego Pirates, I like cheese and I like rolling! Well I guess I really like your MOC. Great job and very funny! Good luck.

Which type of flags do you like better?
Commodore Hornbricker replied to Ratshot's topic in LEGO Pirates
Too many hard vs. soft jokes come to mind with this topic. Specific to Lego however, I'd have to go with the original. It's classic, it feels like a Lego, it functions like a Lego. I've just never liked the papery type flags as much but I suppose they have their place in the line. -
A wonderful and interesting design. The blue is a little overwhelming. Have you tried to mix in a little white or black to break up the blue just a little more? A very nice ship none the less.

Dissolution of a monastery 1536
Commodore Hornbricker replied to SlyOwl's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Dude. You are freakin Lego Genious! The exterior with that cool broken roof design is amazing and your window is extremely clever but the interior is just off the charts cool! I also like the inclusion of a row of your own heads at the bottom. It makes for a great Lego signature.
