LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

It's a print, there was a detailed walkthrough for this mod at Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/48266/the-nissan-gt-r-nismo-without-stickers Also, I still wonder why it was decided to keep that uncovered stud under the rear lights. UPD: I've posted an idea for a mod a while back, but I've just came up with a neater one: -
A Bionicle-themed project has recently achieved support on LEGO Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/9a9b428b-108e-43bd-8b9e-3fdc7e8ec54a It obviously isn't a Constraction set, but if LEGO decide to produce it, it could be a great opportunity to release some re-imagined and modernized Bionicle Constraction figures to accompany it. Obviously, a 20 year anniversary would be a perfect occasion to do it.

Something new I decided to try – building instructions created in Stud.io. You can get a PDF with instructions for my latest model Slingshot here.

@fordtruckin , @pooda here's something both of you should see – one of @L@go's classic set redux'es, also based on 379: City Station 1 by Are J Heiseldal, on Flickr I'd say it would not qualify as a modular, but it is definitely a pretty MOC. -

Some of you might like this: https://brickset.com/article/47661/are-the-wheels-of-the-8-wide-ferrari-too-small Basically, the wheel size (outer diameter) on most 2020 SC models appears to be correct or even too big, they just don't look it. But as far as I am concerned, this only proves that SC sets are still LEGO, not true scale models, and as such they have to rely on existing pieces. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Not at all, I think that LEGO definitely should have more public transportation in City. The few bus sets that we had were great, but why are they so few? And where are taxis? I think there hasn't been a single standalone taxi set – we only got them in rather big sets. I only worry that a modular bus terminal could be underwhelming at 2500 pieces, and we would all prefer it to be done right. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think there is a siginificant difference between what AFOLs would expect from a modular bus terminal and what LEGO could realistically do within the limitations of the Modular Buildings format. For instance, if I wanted a modular bus terminal, I would expect the following: big footprint – a couple of platforms and a waiting area; buses – at least one and able to fit at least 4 minifigs, but preferrably more; interesting exterior and interior. To me, that sounds like A LOT of bricks. To stay within the 2500 or even 3000 pieces limit would require to a) make it single-story, and now it does not fit well with other modulars, and/or b) exclude the bus, which the customers would definitely expect to have. Assembly Square could afford using 4000 only as a celebratory set. And I know that the idea of having to buy a separate bus set would not be very popular – some people were quite upset with the designer video for the Bookshop, which suggested buying 2 of them to make a larger version of the set, as if LEGO acknowledged that it is not big enough as is and you have to pay extra to get a proper version. I am sure both LEGO and most Modular Buildings fans would prefer a detailed set based on a smaller building to a set based on a large building but lacking proper detail and/or size. On the other hand, perhaps LEGO should challenge AFOLs and change what Modular Buildings are. They kind of hinted at that, so I will be glad if I am wrong and LEGO manage to produce a proper bus terminal. And while I was writing this, it also occurred to me that if you squint hard enough you could almost see a bus terminal in the Fire Brigade, and that one wasn't bad at all! -

Bigger wheels would mean bigger wheel arches, and we've already got 2 molds designed for the Speed Champions theme – 18974 and 35789. In my understanding, LEGO are quite strict when it comes to new designs and/or recolors, so I would not expect them to create yet more new molds. Then again, they released a new wheel that is very similar to the earlier one, so who knows? -

I'd say that is more of a decorative change, though having some variety is a good thing for sure. -

So this is interesting: The SC wheels we've had so far had axle holes in them: Apparently, we are getting a pin hole version of 18976. -

Sorry about the misunderstanding, the interview was about 75253: What I meant to say was that maybe there were some references to Rock Raiders in Bookshop as well. However, I have now watched a review and the designer video and know that a) the bed is flame yellowish orange, not orange and b) the designer did not explicitly mention Rock Raiders. -

Brickset published an Interview with Carl Merriam, designer of Star Wars Droid Commander a few weeks ago. One of the things he mentioned was quite interesting and may be relevant for the new Modular as well: Admittedly, with teal you get the Rock Raiders vibes just looking at it But there are still both reddish brown and orange on the bed and the bay window couch and some yellow accents elsewhere. Personally, I like little nods to older themes like this. Also, pure guesswork and speculation, but the older gentleman looks slightly like this guy: -

So that's what Jaime meant when he said they had "new" eyes looking at the Modulars. Not just "new" as in "someone who hasn't worked on Modulars", but also "new" as in "young". Have to agree, that is a unique take on the theme -

I think it would also make sense to take into account previous Modular Building sets. If you consider something less generic than a regular civilian car, a delivery truck is what could complement most of them. Unlike a civilian or sports car, it can be integrated nicely into a layout with goods being loaded into our out of it (think Green Grocer's, Pet Shop, Parisian Restaurant, the Assembly Square bakery and so on). Admittedly, Corner Garage has a gas station, which would be a natural backdrop for any vehicle. As to police cars, I think they are a little bit too specific. Yes, a city would have a police force, but apart from the Brick Bank's money laundering scheme and Mission Impossible-style robbers, the crime level seems pretty low. Sure, there's also that cookie affair in Detective's Office, but the P.I. should be able to figure that one out on his own. I wonder why none of the taxi entries made it. A taxi seems like another obvious vehicle to fit any Modular Building and introduce a small interactive scene. And it's not like we had many taxis in LEGO City – very similar builds in 2 Train Station sets 7937 and 60050 and Donut Shop Opening 60233: Police, on the other hand... @pooda can tell you all about it Perhaps, we are getting a taxi in a Modular Building set? I feel that they could (re)use the LEGO City Undercover design: Nothing but speculation on my side, obviously, and I'm also biased – my 2 entries in the contest were a delivery truck and a taxi -

Here is what the contest rules state: So it will be a separate set, and you are right – it is unlikely that LEGO will be able to finalize the set before the release of the new Modular Building. But who knows? -
Another car for my collection – Slingshot. It started with 16968 which I wanted to use as the grille, and then I also added 215 to the roster. The hood could be less thick, but I think it still looks OK. The rear section was quite tricky, the new 41682 bracket proved very handy once again. The model is available at Mecabricks here, and you can download an .lxf file here. Looking forward to your comments and critique!

This is great! A perfectly integrated function that doesn't compromise the looks, but on the contrary – takes the MOC to the next level.
