Not really new exactly, but some people might have missed that gallery before. It does give a nice closer look at the Dobby set, which FBTB did not cover.

Which movies can you watch over and over again?
Clone OPatra replied to Bobskink's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I can watch In Bruges again and again, though not too close together. Back to the Future I've watched the LOTR trilogy till it's made me sick. I've see Return of the King at least nine times, and about the same for the Two Towers. Star Wars the OT, but also especially EpIII just because it's high octane action without much thought and pure cheese bliss. Christopher Guest mocumentaries (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) Harry Potter movies Spider-Man movies Terminator movies Certain Pixars: TS 1&2, Monsters Inc, the Incredibles Corpse Bride Shrek 1 28 Days Later 300 Snakes on a Plane Just to name some. -
Let's please not turn this into an Avatar discussion. This is about seeing SW movies for the first time, so it's fine to talk about how many times you saw SW the first time it came out. There's an Avatar thread for Avatar, and a new thread for watching movies over and over.

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 2 Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to DarthSion's topic in Culture & Multimedia
WHile the season is ongoing, this shall be pinned. Enjoy! -
Well, not sure exactly what catalog you're looking for, but there's a Medium U.S. Catalog selling on Bricklink. Would that have the information you need?

Well, after writing my initial comment, I realized that Dementors in the Castle is from PoA, though that is the only thing. Dementors may be about the only thing that really isn't too movie specific about PoA, since the Dementors show up again later and fight with Voldemort against the good guys. I'm pretty sure Luna will have a double-sided head. I think there might've been one picture I saw that showed it, but I can't remember for sure. I wouldn't worry about it, since it's not like LEGO to be stingy on their current trend.

I think the Quidditch Match clearly references Film 1, Film 2 (as you said), and Film 6. It references film 1 due to it having a named Oliver Wood character, who was only a major player in film one even though there was Quidditch in film 2. It references Film 2 since it's got Malfoy, and he only started playing in Film 2 and set up that rivalry with Harry in at Quidditch in the Film, and it references Film 6 sort of since that was the only one where the players wore helmets, and the set comes with helmets. I too like that the sets are all a mix of the stories. Still, it seems odd that some of the installments are completely left out, especially GoF, but I don't see much PoA in there either (except that young Flitwick first appeared in the PoA film). Seems to me like there are some clear SS, CoS, HBP, and perhaps Hallows if Harry and Voldemort are fighting in the Castle, but the other ones are mostly left out. That could be because the specific elements of these three HP films are more versatile in terms of making your own scenes. What I mean by that is to say that you can use Bellatrix and Dobby in your own MOCs easily since they are recurring characters, but having some French girls from book 4 isn't that great at a basic HP level since they only show up once. A Ministry set from OotF could've been easily useful though, but I like the line up that they've got.

Urgh… I guess it's a good thing that I don't actually buy so many sets anymore. Well, not really a good thing. Two of my 2010 sets have inconsistencies, though common ones. Brown on the Asteroid bank, and green in the Army Men set. The small 2010 made mostly of white was consistent and nice. In the most recent set I bought, the Taun-Taun set, the Taun-Taun itself has some problems. It's obviously made from two halves, but on one of the halves the end is semi-warped so there's a weird warp midway up the tail. But that's a different, Chinese story.
-
You posted the same pic twice Svelte. Hmm, I wouldn't have noticed the nougat inconsistencies myself, good spot. It's a bummer that is. If all the dark shades have issues, The Burrow is going to be one hot mess. I hope this doesn't migrate into colors like normal tan, and I especially hope that the minfigs don't start showing the problems. If there was a fig that had dark red torso and legs and it looked different, that would be worse even then the different bricks. So far I don't think it's happened in a figure, though.

LEGO: The Adventures of Clutch Powers
Clone OPatra replied to Ryan_T's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Though this is quite old news, I'll leave this open so that we can actually start discussing the movie once it comes out in just a few days. There was a thread about this in LEGO general Discussion, but it's more appropriate to talk about the actual movie here. Who's planning on getting/watching it? -
Show Your Army, Navy, and Collection Display

That case has a mirror in it, doesn't it Rock? At first I thought you had multiples of a lot of ships. Still, a large and wonderful collection, now perhaps more dust-free! -
The Penguin's Harry Potter minifigures..... )
Clone OPatra replied to The Penguin's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Excellent job! Pomfrey looks very nice to me, though I think she looks a bit younger in the films. No problem with that though. I too had forgotten all about the librarian. Does she appear in any of the films? I slightly remember her from the first two books, but that's it. From the front page, I thought the male character was Scrimengeour, but then again he hasn't been in the films yet. (Bill Nighy is set to play him in 7 part 1, I believe) Once I read that he is Slughorn, though, I see the resemblance quite well. You did a great job of capturing Broadbent's constant quizzical expression, top notch! -
Ucchh, Rex looks really fat and wide from the front. That is not a flattering picture. I wouldn't worry about the other characters not being in the pictures. The TRU descriptions and another description in a Toy Fair report I read definitely said that there would be that creature in the Dump Truck, and a Hamm in the Train. I can't see why they would pull Hamm out, that wouldn't make sense. I'm not so thrilled by these sets really. Though I kind of liked the look of the first wave, I only got the Army Men. I was really not thrilled about all the Chinese components, and so these just don't interest me very much. The Western Town set is still of mild interest, but to me Toy Story takes a back seat to other better Licensed themes. I'm willing to buy the SW set with the Chinese Taun-Taun, and the Chinese Wampa too since both add to a collection, but collecting a whole new theme where just about every single figure and many parts are in the Chinese baggies is not a pleasant idea to me.

That face also appears on the female "star" in the helicopter and limo set, I think. They did create a pirate torso that was only ever featured in the pirate blocks building set, but pirate was a one-wave theme while City is continuous. Since City does not end, I bet we will see this torso used elsewhere someday.
-
Well, the Fantasy Era king got a new torso eventually for the final wave. Is the new king's face the same as the old one but recolored with a gray beard? It kind of looked that way to me, but maybe not. LEGO has been really good giving detailed torsos recently, so I doubt they'll be stingy on the king. I bet he'll have something nice under there.

We saw the questions the first time Mike, but nobody knows the answer. Why does LEGO do what it does? That's a a hypothetical question right there, since we never know. Will Boba be different in the Cloud City set? There's no rumor to that end. We haven't heard anything besides there might be a Cloud City set.
-
Are you calling them "not zombies" because they were never dead, they have just been infected? Do zombies have to be creatures that rise from the dead? Because in that case I guess Shaun of the Dead doesn't even count as real zombies. Still, I do agree with the points you make. There are certain key components of different lore that must be present. I agree that in the case of vampires they have to be immortal and drink blood, though I think that's about it. Vampires are bloodsuckers in control of themselves (unlike zombies), and whatever other traits are changed do not affect them being vampires.
-
Actually, $130 is kind of a record even including Star Wars. None of the "regular release" Star Wars sets have yet been over $120, it's only all those exclusives like the Tantive and the AT-OT that are more. LEGO is certainly getting up there price-wise, but I agree with you Svelte that it's nice for them to really go all out on the Castle. Since it is most likely the last wave of Harry Potter sets, it's great to have a large flagship set like that. I think they covered the Castle very nicely, and I can't think of much that is obviously missing.
-
No no, not directed at you. I noticed one person post such a comment, and the following rant was about people who say this in general. Yes, the sparkling in the first movie was some really terrible CG that was quite laughable. But the problem with the sparkling was not that it was in place of burning. Vampires don't have to burn up, they're a fictional thing that any author can do what they want with.
-
I don't see how they're that expensive for what you get. In the Quidditch set you do get five minifigures and there seems to be a lot of nice parts in there. When was the last time we ever got five licensed figures in a set under $20? I think just the figures basically justifies the price, but there's light blue, dark red, and other pieces in nice colors included in the set. The train I suppose is a little bit much for $80, though if the piece count displayed on the box of 646 is right it wasn't going to be under $70. Hagrid's Hut might also be ten bucks too much at $40, but I don't think we've had a confirmed piece count on that yet so I can only judge by the size of the model. The Burrow is a completely perfect price for the model and all the wonderful figures. The Castle seems right to me. It is pretty darn big, and has lots of new and nice figures. If the prelim piece count is correct at 1290, the price is even perfect price-per-piece wise. I don't see how these are really that overpriced at all.
-
I am annoyed that so many people say "This is the way this fictional thing is." Fictional things can be however the creator wants it to be, it's called creative license. People pick and chose vampire traits all the time. In the Blade movies, vampires have reflections. In some vampire stories and movies, holy water and holy wafers don't do squat to hurt a vampire. And I don't see vampires turning into bats in many movies, even though in other stories they can do that. Bram Stoker's Dracula could even turn into a dog. It's a fictional thing. Stephanie Meyer can have her vampires not burn up if she wants, there's no right or wrong thing about vampires since they're all made up anyway. I happened to like the Twilight movies because they are so very odd for being main stream, but you don't have to. It's just that you shouldn't be upset that somebody did what they wanted with a fictional thing, even though it was different than what is commonly done.

I'm sure Macoco meant New York Toy Fair. We would've heard if these were given out at the Canadian Toy Fair, but that wouldn't have even made sense anyway. The Canadian Toy Fair doesn't have a special collectors party, it's the NY TF that's really the big deal.

LEGO Collectible Minfigures Series 1 Poll
Clone OPatra replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
We already have this topic for voting for your favorite of the figures. I think it should come back now, instead of having a new one. -
According to FBTB, this October wave is the only cycle scheduled. Maybe it will be so successful that they'll decide to make some more, but right now it seems like just the one wave. At least it's a great way to go!
