Review: 70146 Flying Phoenix Fire Temple
Clone OPatra replied to TheOneVeyronian's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
While this set is a really neat concept and looks amazing, I still think that I wouldn't be very interested in it as a kid (and am also not so interested as an adult). The reason is that there just isn't anywhere to play in. It's essentially just a courtyard in Temple mode, with no actual interior to speak of, or a big ship in flying mode, which is nice but only has space for three figures in open-air cockpits anyway. When I think of a flagship set, as a kid I always wanted something with at least some interior to play in. Even if you look at Star Wars, the biggest sets should be ships that actually have some interior. This set, on the other hand, has got nothing. The concept is still really cool, and I wouldn't mind a 50 or 60 dollar transforming flying temple, but as a huge set this just isn't doing it for me. The walking Mammoth is a bit better, since it at least has a little space inside.- 18 replies

The real issue/unexplained plot-hole in the film is how the heck Kitty magically got the power to send people's minds through time. They don't even attempt to explain it at all. The only thing I can think of is that she can phase through objects, so she can phase other people's minds through time. But it's really a stretch. For Professor X there's plenty of viable-enough explanations. Maybe he got a clone of himself. Maybe he just put his body back together since his mind is that powerful. Honestly, once First Class wrecked the continuity of X1 but was still a fantastic film, I think Fox should've boldly just decided that they could make new X-films with the same characters but different continuities and not worry about it. If the films are good, it doesn't matter. You can basically treat DofP like that, since if you really try to put all the films in one timeline too many plot holes emerge. With the success of the MCU everybody seems to feel the need to make all of their movies connected, which I just think isn't necessary.

Where do you get that information? Maybe it's set in the 31st century in the comics, but I don't think it will be in the films. After all, the Collector was shown at the end of Thor 2 in a scene that I believe will directly tie into GotG, leading me to suspect that GotG takes place around the same time as the various Avengers films.

LEGO will probably keep the Dol Guldur Battle set around. It will pair well with the rumored set of Galadriel and Elrond fighting the Witch King (if i remember correctly). The Dol Guldur Battle seems to be a mash up between things that actually happened in DoS and things that were moved to the third film anyway.

Robin making a heart-shape at Batman does not imply anything. It can just be a funny little joke showing that Robin idolizes Batman, and nothing more. It definitely looks like he's making a heart in the trailer, which makes fine sense in context anyway since they are all complimenting Batman's suit.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks like seven battle droids to me too: 6 ground/blaster droids, one on the STAP, and one pilot. This is a weird direction to go with the MTT, honestly. It's just rather small-looking. I'm usually not in favor of making things huge, but the MTT is a big vehicle and the last version captured that perfectly. This looks like a funky mid-scale MTT. Also odd to note that there are no 'new' bubbles by Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I thought LEGO usually puts 'new' next to any figure that has even the slightest change, but I guess not here. -
Great inclusion of the original X-Wing set. Personally it will always remain my favorite - its blocky grunginess really suits the Rebels in a way that all of the newer, bigger, sleeker models have not been able to match. Sure, it's not the most 'accurate' thing perhaps, but it really has the right character.

What sets LEGO produces also most likely has to do with what the License holder is going for. Marvel (aka Disney) seems to be making a merchandising push with GotG, with a healthy number of toys coming out across different brands. It makes sense honestly since the property on its own is not that well known and doesn't obviously tie into the Avengers films, so a merchandising push could help get kids excited. Not that it's a kid film, but it's going to have plenty of space battles and generally cool outer-space scenery from the looks of it, which kids would be into. What Marvel wants to market obviously takes precedence over everything else. It's why we get so many Ultimate Spider-Man sets and perhaps why there weren't sets for the Thor and Captain America sequels, which did not seem to get much merchandise in general.

Your link just seems to be corrupted. It's actually this: Strange because the board makes it look exactly the same, except when I click yours it still says 'page not found.'

Brickworld Chicago 2014 Countdown Chatter and Pizza Party.

Hello! I am coming (finally) for the first time ever. I'm not showing anything, but I'll be hanging out the whole time as an all-access registrant. -
All I see around the internet is Channing Tatum hate, especially being cast as Gambit. I don't get it. The guy can be a charming actor. Gambit's a charming and gruff guy. What's the big deal? Maybe he'll work and maybe he won't, but only the final finished film will tell us that. As for him not looking the part - just take Wolverine. Hugh Jackman is over six feet tall and objectively attractive, aka not at all comic book Wolverine. As for Gambit, his defining features are all costuming (and of course everybody in comic books is insanely ripped these days, so that's no issue). Honestly any old handsome-looking dude could play Gambit and look just fine.

Taking a look at my Mixels and Gorilla Legend Beast, I couldn't help swapping around a few things. Makes quite a difference really…

Those would be electrobinoculars. They've been in used in Star Wars since the beginning. -
Do you build with LEGO while using the bathroom?
Clone OPatra replied to legoman19892's topic in Community
Indeed, I like to flip through old (or recent) LEGO catalogs while on the john… but actually using bricks, I'm not sure how that would work out. -
I'll absolutely hate on sets that I feel deserve it. I don't think any designer here was 'being lazy' and I would never say so, but the set is still unappealing and a major let down, especially for being the second set which has finally had some X-Men. The Marvel Superheroes line has had quite a lot of sets in all price categories that really knock it out of the park, but this isn't one of them. The Sentinal is perhaps a valiant effort for the size that LEGO wished to market, but it still looks rather silly. The minifigure selection is, as I voiced earlier, sad, with just two new characters. I'm actually strongly inclined to think that just one more new character would have made me feel significantly differently about it. As it is, I've never been a huge fan of Wolverine's cowl look anyway, and this look for Magneto isn't terrific. I completely understand why Wolverine and Magneto are included, but for anybody with the first X-Men set this one is really crying out for another new character, be it an X-Man or perhaps Mystique. The argument that it's a kid's toy so we're not allowed to have any standards just doesn't fly. Besides, even children can dislike things. I had some sets that I thought were pretty lousy as a child.

Review 6180 - Hydro Search Sub
Clone OPatra replied to Csacsa234's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I've personally always hated the later 90s underwater/space themes (since this is basically a Sci-Fi theme, just underwater). The color theme I suppose is ok, but the ship itself looks so blocky and chunky, with bits thrown on here and there as if at random. The end result to me is an ugly mess. I guess it's just a matter of opinion, since some people adore these sets. I did like the Aquaraiders, and the Aquasharks and Aquanaughts are alright too, but the Hydronaughts and Stingrays just look like a mess to me. -
If the X-Jet hadn't included two characters that we already got, I'd also feel better about it. Sure, it's great to Wolverine's mask and all, but really a fifty buck set with only two new characters is a big let-down. By comparison the Hulk Smash set had a lot of goodness going on MF-wise, and even with Thor the new version was significantly different. I love X-Men, but ultimately the X-Jet doesn't feel like it's worth buying. Maybe I'll get it anyways and feel bad about it, but it's a major let-down.

The biggest thing I notice is the animation, which unfortunately doesn't look as good as what Clone Wars got to be. Not that it's bad animation exactly, but everything has way too much shine on it, especially the characters, giving them too much cartoony pop. Clone Wars really perfected a wonderful animation style towards the end of its run, and this seems to have gone away from that towards more typical kids CG, which tends to be a bit sillier. It's hard to describe really, but Clone Wars had a certain almost grungy edge to it that set it apart from other CG shows that I've seen.

Ultron, they originally had scenes shot with an MJ for this film but they decided to cut her out because it was too much. I'm glad they did, since I think that indeed would've been packing too much into this film. Overall I found ASM2 to be much more enjoyable to watch than ASM1, as it at least told one coherent story and not a bunch of little unresolved stories that ended with the dumbest villain ever (yes you, Lizard). Of course the 'big bad corporation that has the power to do everything' isn't at all necessary for good Spidey stories, but that's the route they're going in order to build a ginormous franchise, so… oh well. The original trilogy showed the nice simple side to Spidey, and this one mirrors what happens in comics once things have been running too long: they get cray. Trying to adapt the absurdity that is 'comics after simplicity has been done to death' is an interesting endeavor.

If they can strike a nice balance between the lightsaber duels of the OT and the lightsaber duels of the PT, then perhaps I'd be willing to see lightsaber duels. They just got rather out of hand in the PT though, even if they were a bit cool anyway. I'm really just hoping for some nice, not 100% awesome at everything characters. The PT has zero human characters because all of the protagonists are Jedi who are too awesome to be relatable.

The only tidbit from that Jedinews article that I care about whether or not it is true is the line about the big bad not being a Sith. I really, really, hope that is the case. If they go the route of all Force sensitive people fighting Force sensitive people, I feel like that would lead to disaster. We need some real, human, relatable characters back in these movies.

I like how the 'Sponsored By The LEGO Group' blurb appears right over when Homer is shaking his butt. Oh, the irony.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's the Rebels-style Stormtrooper, and the actual Snowtrooper commander isn't pictured. It's also odd that the 'Imperial Officer' isn't named. He looks quite a bit like Piett. -
The title "There and Back Again" doesn't imply the end. It's just a nicer, loftier title. "Battle of the Five Armies" honestly sounds like a spinoff title, like they made a nice series of movies, and then decided to make another one about a battle. All of the rest of the titles are pleasantly vague while this one is just a smack in the face. Boom. Battle.

Do we really need this tavern discussion AGAIN? This thread is just going to keep going in circles if it's the exact same discussion over and over. It's been done to death.
