Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Not unless I want to get a fireball in the face, that nasty Dwarf is too close." -
"Schedule or no, we'll be packing those automaton's up today, Doctor. These men will help if necessary and I can send for more if necessary. We've had reports of a good number of Tritech airships assembling outside of the city and the Council doesn't want to take any chances." "Very well, follow me, we keep the gate in the cellar laboratory." Would the Party stay near Karie at the door or follow the doctor to the basement laboratory?

"Gotta commend ya for yer commitment to your ruse. Pity if it all went up in flames wouldn't it be?" A small fire alights in the Doomsayer's palm as he holds it over the dry corpse. "Lucifuge? Sounds like a celestial of some sort." Matthias's nurturing seems to have no effect upon the dwarf. "I warned ya!" The cavern begins to shake as Hoke finds his legs encased in earth. The Doomsayer's form begins to blur until multiple dwarves stand before the party. The group quickly heads for Silverlight Grove as the smoke slowly begins to fade. Up ahead the white birch trees form a small forest in the gardens surrounding a small patio with a short fountain in the center. To the south, a giant wall of ivy crawls upwards along the wall of the Hinckwell Villa which backs right up to the Hanging Gardens. On the north side of the grove, the heroes can see a small grouping of bestial topiary.

"You tell me, are we waiting for you friend, or are we getting you set to leave?" "Well, perhaps if the automatons weren't potential slaughter machines capable of leveling a city we wouldn't be here. The council has decided to accelerate the collection schedule, the extra men are here to ensure there aren't any problems."

Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return

"I am Untergang Flagonfist of Clan Ironpeak, the Doomsayer. I helped lead Heroica for 35 years and what do I find upon my return, nothing but a sham, a warrin' tribe splintered with division upon division. The individuals upstairs have been taken to Fort Freedom for their aiding you disgraceful lot in whatever rebellion yer tryin' to lead." "Oh believe me prophet, quarreling would imply ya've got a chance against me." As Arthur listens, he isn't able to pick up on any falsehood's from the Dwarf. QM Note: Fixed. "Exposed? Fer what? Uncoverin' some sort of sick joke? I don't know what yer plannin' boy, but tryin' to start some false rumor concernin' Yuliana ain't the smartest move. Ya break into the dragon hold, slaughter a bunch of drakes, and then plant a dead body down here? Really, that the best ya could come up with?" "Careful there mate, don't try makin' another move, or I'll make sure ya don't." -
"I believe the shadow is with Dr. Tesla in one of the other labs." Kiray hears a gruff response on the other side. "Open it quickly or we're breaking it down." "Thank you for your offer, but we've got a couple airships waiting just outside of town, they can be here in a few moments, we just need to stall these guards in the meantime. I'm afraid I can't risk sending of all our equipment into the Faerie without a way to return it, plus if it's as dangerous as you say, I don't want to imagine it falling into even worse hands than the council." "The gate would take only a few minutes of my time." Lind checks the door and can barely make out a dozen soldiers with a rather large imposing figure standing a full head and shoulders taller than the rest of the group bringing up the rear. "I'm afraid, I can't do that. With nearly a dozen scientists here and a dozen more lab hands, they are my responsibility. If we only had a few minutes more, I think we could manage all of our escapes."

QM Note: I think I've got everything from Zanna, but I couldn't find the exact post, so let me know if there's anything else that is supposed to be transferred. And Yes Bellanotte has maximum reputation in regards to the Shadeaux Cape. <She is not, I left both Vipera and Miirym in Dastan when I learned of the great migration of my winged kin to this city. They informed me that they were investigating a disturbance to the east of Dastan that may be related.> Arthur's compass points south west towards the Eubric Cove. Nothing jumps out of the shadows at Hoke the room is still and quiet. "Are you alright Matthias? You must be more careful, I wouldn't want that dashing gnomish nose of yours all bruised and broken." There is no time for consultation as the heroes quickly dash down to the cellar and through the secret tunnel, down, down, and down further until they reach the crypt of the Dragon Lord's ancestors. There examining the grave of the Golden Dragon is a familiar Dwarf staff in hand staring at the open tomb. "Should a known I'd find ya lot down here behin' all this mischief and schemin'." -
"Sounds like your in need of a planar gate." Monalisa removes and cleans her glasses lenses. "Well you're in luck, we haven't started dismantling it yet. Should do the trick, thankfully for you, we've gathered a fare bit of info on the Faerie's planar sigil so the trip shouldn't be too painful... No guarantee we'll be able to get you back though. Granted the Fae haven't had any issue on shifting to our world willy-nilly in the past via their magics. So how's that sound?" "We might be able to part with one of the G.E.M. Automatons. 2000 Gold seems fitting." At that moment the heroes hear a pounding on the lab's door. "Open up in the name of the Eubric Council for Peace and Prosperity!" "Sod, they're a day early!"

Dyric sees a lot of footprints in the dusty room, some leading out of the Dragon House others leading into the cellar. The assassin notes a few rapier slashes in the wallpaper and a few scorch marks on the carpet. "What... what happened. Where are my brother and sister?" -

Abilities: First Breath (Arthur may sacrifice a turn of combat to focus and gain +3 power. Power resets at the end of a battle or when the hero is KO'd) Inventory: The heroes leave the Ziegfried mansion heading back to Triad Park now accompanied by Chesterine and Arthur. Torc pokes her head out of the trees a voice echoing in Hoke and Arthur's minds. <Ah, I thought I recognized that smell, greetings young dragoon. Hoke, there are many more dragons aloft this evening, we must be careful.> The party climb aboard the dragon and are soon aloft albeit for a short time. Chesterine strategically positions herself behind Matthias, wrapping her arms around the small gnome's waist as they depart into the moonlit sky. "Isn't it so lovely?" A few minutes pass before the heroes land once more outside the Dragon House, no light can be seen through the broken windows. As the Party pushes inside, they find the sitting room abandoned, the fireplace cold, and house seemingly empty. "Umbra? Nuitan? Hello, are you here?" Nothing answers Bellanotte but silence. -
"We're shipping them back to the capital in Xu to Monsignore Legonardo's base laboratory." "We think so, but most of the citizenry is still cautious about automation and our technology in general, of course in the wrong hands it can lead to disaster, as some of your fellow heroes can attest to, I'm sure. Now what's this about the Faerie?"
-
Kiray notes a variety of equipment, automatons, ether-cannons, steam-ship engines, and a host of other technical parts being loaded into wooden crates and stamped with the royal Xuese symbol. "We were delivered an edict to turn over all of our automatons and ether-tech to the Eubric Council for Peace and Prosperity by the end of the day. Something about being implicated in a Ji Pei conspiracy. But there won't be anything for them to take, if there isn't anything here." Monalisa signs off on a few check lists offered her by assistants. "Now then, to what do we owe this visit? I doubt you came here to throw a going away party."
-
"Allow me to inspect it." Dr. Giocanda lowers a magnifying contraption over her glasses and investigates the arm. "Hmmm, well some of the tech is ours, probably from the home office back in Xu, but other parts look to be Dwarven possibly Brumpknob in origin. The housing may actually be Gnomish in origin. All together a very fine piece!"
-
"I'm sure she's around here somewhere, sorry it's all a bit chaotic we really need to get some things taken care of quickly." Monalisa smiles at Vindval, a gleam in her eye as she surveys his mechanical arm. "Yes, well it can't be helped, I can't stand the idea of my life's work just being wrenched away."

"Are we going to the Dragon House? I can't wait for our flight! The moon is out, and I'm sure Ms. Shadeaux could provide us with some delightful music!" -
"Nay, I've got no problem, disguisin' myself these days." Skrall's eyes shift for a moment to a more bestial form, before turning back to normal. "Kiray, perhaps those arrows would do ya better, I ain't plannin' on needin' my crossbows much." QM Note: If everyone's ready. The party heads off through the streets of Eubric, thankfully the Ji Pei palace being only a block away and the Tritech Company adjacent, they didn't have any issue navigating the way undetected by any patrolling guards. Upon knocking at the door of the Tritech Company they are quickly led inside to the main laboratory. The lab has several staff who are hurriedly packing components and equipment into giant crates, Lead Engineer Monalisa Gioconda greets the heroes. "Well this is quite the surprise, didn't think most of you lot were sticking your heads above ground these days!"
