That's definitely doable and I'll think I'll start with something simple, but imagine trying to program something for an Endgame battle.
-
You know I quite forgot about that, I was hyped about it in my programming class, then finals, interviews, and the real world hit and I never got around to it. Guess with all my free time, I could probably put one together. The hard parts are special damage and passive specials, there's so much variety that it's nigh impossible to program something that takes everything into account.

Which is why PvP doesn't work without serious mechanical adjustments. It basically comes down to who shoots first.
-
It's all for RP purposes anyways, a rat should not be able to take a hit from an ogre. I agree though, I've about gotten to the point where I'm more interested in unique items than stuff that gives a mechanical advantage.

That depends on your class, if your class is a specialty or support class than dealing damage may not be your first priority. If you're a damage dealer, you want to find the most economical way to do the most damage. Hunter for instance usually gets a 3x multiplier to power so that usually means additive upgrades like WP are generally a wash. Thus it's much cheaper for me to invest 1500 gold in gem imbuement to essentially double my damage output than to spend the 1500 Gold on raising one weapon's power by ~10 levels.

Alternatively, both Benji and myself have weapons that match the strategy

Yep he was introduced by Sandy, granted Zepher gave filled in the personality and all but the original creation belonged to Sandy.

These opportunities are usually the best ones as it resembles more natural story telling, instead of feeling forced. The companion is there because it makes sense in light of the present story, not just because a player decided "Oh, it would be cool to have a companion". If you look at most of the given examples, Boomingham and Thothwick for instance, their companion was introduced by another player and fit the present situation.

Skrall gazed at the being. It's reality shattered, it's discernment scrambled, it's sanity scattered to the wind. Skrall mused on the tortured creature's question, silently knocking an arrow to his bow. "How can any of us know?" he mused to himself, his face a mixture of pity and contemplation as he smoothly drew and then released the arrow.
-
"Like I said there's nothin' worse than..." Skrall stopped short as Baradock rushed forwrard. The ogre unstrapped his long bow from his back, "Well, looks like things are about to get interestin'. Come on ya two, Octavyn ya'd best have those seditives ready."
-
"Long story, let's just say it involved a bunch of running around, an enchanted floor, a portal to another dimension, and a bat brained witch named Wren."
-
Because you're following the long honored tradition of playing a character with split personalities.
-
Skrall thought back on his other adventures under the city of Heroica. "Ya'd be surprised."
-
"Well we'd best figure out where he is then, or at least his underlings. Nothin' worse than a soddin' mad man with a soddin' mad weapon." Skrall swigged a Mead before pushing open the next door.
-
"Ya probably picked the wrong line of work then, miss." Skrall moved over to examine the axe and tool next to it.
-
"Ya, know we could always check and see if anyone's home..." Skrall tried pushing the door at the other end of the room open.
-
Don't worry, you've got a half barbarian Ogre on your side.
-
"Barbarian, ya want to take a look at that bookshelf over there?" Skrall moved over to inspect the crate Karie was at.
-
Setting the hatchet down, Skrall examined the set of syringes above it. "So slimy things that go bump in the night, huh? Wonderful."
-
"From one horror to the next it would seem. I've seen posessions before, but to induce them on purpose..." Skrall hefted the axe from it's place on the wall.
-
Skrall squinted at the cliff face, pointing to a discolored part of the stone exterior resembling a door he remarked, "Hello, hello, what do we have here? Why don't ya strike here."
-
Skrall was concerning himself more with remaining on the rather small ledge than looking closely, "Anybody got a pick-axe with 'em?"

Ah the old blaggard who stabbed me in the back has returned, I see. No matter, ready to do it all again? I'm assuming we just need to post in here to signify we're still willing. -
As has been stated, the issue isn't so much the rule change as was how it was implemented and at least one of the reasons it was implemented. We understand that as the creator you are totally in the right to make any changes you see fit to your game, however we generally like a little discussion about something before it occurs that's all. No need for polls just a some discussion before hand.

To some degree, I've always felt that one can only take logic so far in a fantasy setting, but I agree with Sandy on the rule change, to the extent that single type demons, holy, mechanical monsters, etc. should be not be able to be raised. However, I do think that when a rule change is made that somehow limits a class that is admittedly not OP, something should also be given in concession. So yes, Necromancer's shouldn't be able to raise the above monsters but perhaps as a give and take, the monsters' they raise level increases after each successful battle just like a heroes. People are generally happier to give up something if they are getting something in return.
