  1. Spoken like a true pack-rat. This entire discussion has actually given me a quest idea.
  2. You know you could all avoid this entire bit by keeping your inventory's smaller by just getting rid of stuff even if it's not necessarily the absolutely most profitable at the time.
  3. "If we wanted to loot you, we could have done it already and then proceeded on inside. The mere fact yer standin' here still is a testament to our good nature."
  4. "If we weren't guests, we wouldn't know he was havin' a party tonight in the first place."
  5. "Just how pray tell are ya gonna be lettin' the rest of the night's guests in?"
  6. I've always seen it as the either the enemy following directly or the same enemy twice. If you can choose the secondary target at will, you can avoid a lot of nasty specials simply by never targeting them directly. If you want to use that strategy than you'll have to compromise a little by having to attack the target above the nasty special, for better or for worse.
  7. "Nay, I never heard the entire story behind Dastan, too busy fightin' off cultists and renegades a like. 'Sides, I was too focused on Wren to care for much else anyways at the time. Yer right though, the entire system's goin' to Helvetia, probably no matter who we support anyways." Skrall's eyes rolled over the rest of the dozing party. "Funny ain't it? So many folks with more differences than things in common, yet we all end up watchin' over each other like kinfolk. Misery loves company, my guess. We're all searchin' fer somethin'. Some want notoriety, some want influence, some are in it fer the wealth, some want companionship, others thrills, and still others to fulfill somethin' inside of 'em that says they need to act "noble" or for the "greater good", whatever it is we keep goin' on these soddin' things hopin' we'll find it. Satisfaction, strange lot we mortals have been given." Skrall ended his thought looking at the statue of Pseudos. "Reckon he had a whole lot followin' after him, cause he promised them some sort of fulfillment."
  8. "Thanks, but I've learned to do without. After many a long day tracking in the wilderness, you find it's better to always be on edge. Not tired?"
  9. Skrall having no bedroll either dozed for an hour or so before waking. Skrall watched Nyx as she read, "Soddin' mess this city is in, ain't it?"
  10. This is for all the QM's who have ever designed a "boss fight" and for all the PC's who have had to face one.
  11. "Well if it comes to choosin' sides, I can say Maxis here has yielded more results than his brother. I'm with the Regulator on this one, but where ever the party leader wants us to go, I'm followin'."
  12. OoC: Metal Ornaments? "We'd best be goin'. Maxis, if yer magic effected any of our equipment, any idea how long that spell would take to ware off?"
  13. This. Sure Scholars are an ether dependant class, but it has been suggested that they get an attack boost for being low on ether, which means they really don't lose too much from being low. For the best balance each class should ideally be good at something and poor at something else.
  14. "I'm runnin' out of ideas, anybody else?"
  15. First off I like the class Sandy, I'm in agreement about Fast Learner, though not for the same reason. As I've stated before the experience system is somewhat logarithmic in nature. Thus at higher levels (even with multipliers) the power gap actually grows smaller between heroes. Therefore while Fast Learner might help a little and I can see the role-playing aspect, it really doesn't add anything to the class since access to it doesn't occur till level 30. I think fast learner could be replaced by something better and more desirable as a job trait.
  16. Skrall decided to forgo eating any more pie and walked over to the woman in the back corner in the bath. "Ya got a name? What are ya doin' here?"
  17. You're right in that is a matter of preference, but given the way Heroica RPG is structured most quests are semi-railroaded. In a way they have to be because there is a distinct dichotomy between "on a quest" and "not on a quest". When you're "on a quest" you have an impact on the world/story of Heroica RPG when you're "not on a quest" i.e. in the hall/marketplace/etc. you really don't have any impact on the world/story of Heroica RPG. In this way it's different from say an ongoing D&D campaign in which the heroes are continually impacting the world and hop from quest to quest and wander where ever they want. Thus QM's generally have a preplanned scenario/story they are trying to follow. Heroica RPG is very episodic in nature, thus I doubt you'd ever see any QM let their PC's wander for a month without steering them in the right direction, because generally the goals of the given quest are laid out pretty plainly. I will qualify all of this in that some people are better at "hiding" railroading than others though.
  18. It's more of a question for the QM lounge and it really relates to QMing philosophy and style. If you have all the pictures taken you're a little more limited on where and what your party can do, however it allows the quest to go at a quicker pace (generally) because you have everything prepared. This is generally more typical of a railroading quest style. If you want to provide your players with more freedom by building as you go, then you'll tend more towards an open world quest style, however unless you have a ton of free time on your hands, you may take a lot longer to update your quest because it is dependent on you building and photographing scenes. Personally I aim at more of a happy medium, build the main sets that I think the quest will necessitate and then build some stuff on the fly if the party wants to try something that I haven't planned on. Railroaded quests tend to go smoother, but can get on PC's nerves because people like options. Open world quests give options, but generally PC's have to really be able to take the initiative and try stuff out otherwise people just sit around asking "what do you want to do?".
  19. Skrall stuck a thumb in the pie on the shelf and took a taste. "Still think someone should check the bunnies."
  20. Skrall looked over the titles of the books. "Someone want to interrogate those bunnies?"
  21. Out of curiosity, which quests are just about finished? I know 99 is just starting the boss battle, but considering it's an Endgame boss-battle, they could be another month. 98 and 95 have been going for awhile, are they almost done?
  22. Out of curiosity any Heroican's intending on being at Brickworld Chicago tomorrow?
  23. Well that puts the total at 3 people planning quests for the newbies.
